Finding out the Dead were playing in Toronto was great news. We piled into the car and set out from Buffalo, telling the border guards we were headed for Toronto for Chinese food (some of the best Chinese food on the North American continent is to be had in Toronto, a gorgeous city). You couldn't tell them you were going to hear music, or they would automatically search your car. The coolest thing about this show at Seneca College was it was held in the gym, and the walls had been hung with acoustic curtains to deaden the sound (no pun intended). The sound was crystal clear and you could hear every note. The Terrapin Station encore was a real treat. From comments Phil made in the second set I got the impression that, being a band, the Dead had a less than happy border crossing. But I'm glad they made it.

In David Gans' book "Playin in the Band', Bobby (supposedly) tells the author that on the ride up to Toronto the band was detained by Canadian Customs because they found "Bee Pollen" in Bobby's luggage. Bobby said he used bee pollen as a supplement with his food, but Customs thought it was drugs. After a strip search, they were let go. On the way back into the US, they were stopped again for the same thing; bee pollen!

I've heard lots from 77/78. And this is the tightest performance of this song, these ears have EVER heard. It was a bonus track on a dick's pick's for a very good reason.

Cowboy combo (check out the 3rd solo in Big River) and Supp stand out in set 1. A beautiful solo in Scarlet, hot 2d solo in Stephen and a rockin jam in Around highlight set 2. VG show, 8/10 overall

10/29/77 was at Evans Field House in DeKalb, IL. This is correct on this website. 10/2/77 was at the Field House at Seneca College in Toronto, Canada. This is the correct setlist, but wrong date. Since each venue had "Field House" in its name, it is easy to see why these got a little mixed up.

Not quite, it looks like you have your date wrong. I can only assume you meant 11-2, not 10-2 (as appears in your post). 10-1 and 10-2, 1977 the Dead were on the West coast for 2 well-known shows in Portland, OR at the Paramount Theater. Everything is correct here, except the city. 11-2-77 was in Toronto, Canada at the Field House of Seneca College as you state, not Cincinnati, OH as the show page incorrectly states. Just as long as we all know, 'cause chances are it will never be fixed. Or, at least not soon...
