Sometimes you come across a quote, a line, a statement that just nails it, at some level. Cosmic, comic, whatever.
If you'd like to share it, post it here, duly credited!
now true, the great Hunter
has written many such words, but what actually brought this on was a post that came up in somebody's thread on Facebook about a week ago that was a quote from William Gibson, who's no slouch himself. So sources outside the canon are encouraged!
the quote in question
"Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounding yourself with assholes."--William Gibson
(or, gee, I hope he really did say this somewhere along the line, because it's a truly inspirational quote...)
Apocryphal or not, that's a good one marye
I always liked the mid-1980s tour t-shirt that subverted a Nike advertisement of the time:

One I used to see ...
in the GD Almanac:

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."
It used to be framed on the wall of my office when I worked for the Clamshell Alliance against the Seabrook nuclear power plant on the seacoast of NH.
It wasn't a bad credo to have on tour, either.
my favorite quote
Argument closes off the door to the senses. It always masks violence. Continued too long, argument leads to violence. I have no violent intentions toward you.

I know it's not a Grateful Dead quote, but this one works for me:

My wife was trying to come up with that one last weekend. Took us both a few tries and a few minutes to get the wording just exactly perfect. As such things seem to have a way of working out, now we'll be tripping over the quote everywhere we go. Thanks!

All of us have a place in history. Mine is clouds.
In 1970 at the tender age of 15, I read Trout Fishing in America, Catch-22, and Slaugherhouse-Five all in the same summer. This trio of books warped my outlook on the world in ways that are still being revealed to me today. You can decide whether this is testimony to the enduring relevancy of these works or to how slow on the uptake I am. I'm hoping for the former, wouldn't be surprised by the latter.

My real Dad used to play this when we were kids. He'd wave his hand in the air like a butterfly; then he'd dive bomb his pointer finger into our sides and tickle us til we were laughing our heads off or almost peeing ourselves! It was so much fun laughing; I am giddy thinking of it. We sher'd some good times for my birthday. Just shering the bliss! You cannot escape the bee... hahahahaha- to bee-ing tickled!
