    JDV HOTELS
I've stayed at three hotels in the JDV (that stands for Joie de Vivre) chain and they were great! The Hotel Del Sol is in the Marina district and was the simplest of the three and we visited it in '05. Nice neighborhood and very pleasant folks who ran it. The Galeria Park Hotel was where we stayed last year. Fantastic location within walking distance of museums, Chinatown, North Beach and a ton of other cool places. My favorite though was the Hotel Kabuki, in Japantown, where we stayed in '08. Very cool rooms, excellent hotel bar (which to my mind is something very rare) and it honestly is one of two hotels I've been to in the world where I actually enjoyed sitting in my room, looking out the window. SF is pricey. You might want to look at this place: traveling musicians stay there a lot: http://www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/sanfrancisco/phoenix

Cheap in SF? Does not compute!
Motel 6 in SF = $100Hyatt in Montreal = $100 WTF? Look for alternatives... I heard of a site where you crash in other people's houses for cheap. If you could find deadheads...

for our needs. We're looking for a clean place, a good bed, a tv set and a breakfast. So how about the Opal SF or another one with about same price? No offence Lamagonzo, I just want to save money to buy some t-shirts and a Dead-o-poly. Peace, Richard.

a week from today. A bud and I are going to do the SF 1/2 maraton - his 1st, my 3rd. Of course, I'll be making a stop or two at Amoeba and marauding the streets of North Beach and the Missions. I love the two hour time-zone thing - I'm from St. Louis - and the feeeel of the pristine skies and cooool temps. Oh, lawdy! The coolest thing is my family and I (and daughter's boyfriends - more than one daughter) were very recently in Hilton Head, S.C. Two different universes in a month!!!So if you see a bald Italian and a tan Irishman, be sure to say hola, y'all!

I grew up in Ohio, lived in Colorado for 15 years, and now live in Adelaide, South Australia. In 3 weeks my wife, three step kids(15,14,10), mother/ father-in-law and I will be in San Francisco starting a nine week holiday taking us all over the U.S. San Fran is my favorite city in the states. This will be the first trip for my family. We just have 4 days there, but have much planned. After that we head to Vegas, Denver, South Carolina, Atlanta, Orlando, back north to D.C., New York, Niagra Falls, Ohio, Tennesse, then back to S.C. to fly back here to Adelaide. A trip of a lfetime for the kids and hopefully they will see the real America rather than the hollywood version. See ya soon.
