hi Richard-personally, I like this place to stay: http://www.sealrockinn.com/ It's convenient, on a main street for buses & you're near the ocean. If you're going to Alcatraz, let me know. Husband has been saying he's never been (& he's been here in Ca. for 41 years) It'd be fun to meet you, after all I am half Canadian (by a weird twist of fate) When are you coming? Hope we're here. Sunny today, cold yesterday, especially when the fog rolls in.......Gotta go-the SUN is OUT!

Yes, very lovely, and right next to the Zen Center. Be forewarned that if you have a tendency to get carsick, the road to Muir Beach, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach and other spots of interest will be something of a challenge, so prepare appropriately. One section of Muir Beach is clothing-optional. In my experience the temperatures are rarely such to make this an inviting prospect however.

do not believe all this business about Sunny California when it comes to San Francisco. The first time I came, on a family trip when I was in high school, we came up in our SoCal summer clothes and I was so cold and miserable all the time that I vowed never to return. Fortunately I thought better of this. But heed the wise words of BobbaLee and bring warm clothes. Maybe not warm clothes by Canadian standards, but if you dress for Vancouver you won't be far off. Of course we COULD get a heat wave, but it's unwise to count on it! The big park is Golden Gate Park, which of course has many Dead-related landmarks, including the Polo Field (site of the Human Be-In), Kezar Stadium, the Panhandle, etc.

It's expensive and surprisingly cold. There is a lot of stuff to do. Of course it depends on how much time you have. Chinatown is fun as is City Lights bookstore There is a big park with a nice museum that is very interesting. Alcatraz is worth it. If you like naval history the submarines in the dock are cool. wine country is close. Muir Woods across the bay is a must. And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

    well, it goes without saying
that you must do the traditional photo outside 710. And of course there's the Fillmore, and don't miss the poster room.

a week from today. A bud and I are going to do the SF 1/2 maraton - his 1st, my 3rd. Of course, I'll be making a stop or two at Amoeba and marauding the streets of North Beach and the Missions. I love the two hour time-zone thing - I'm from St. Louis - and the feeeel of the pristine skies and cooool temps. Oh, lawdy! The coolest thing is my family and I (and daughter's boyfriends - more than one daughter) were very recently in Hilton Head, S.C. Two different universes in a month!!!So if you see a bald Italian and a tan Irishman, be sure to say hola, y'all!

I grew up in Ohio, lived in Colorado for 15 years, and now live in Adelaide, South Australia. In 3 weeks my wife, three step kids(15,14,10), mother/ father-in-law and I will be in San Francisco starting a nine week holiday taking us all over the U.S. San Fran is my favorite city in the states. This will be the first trip for my family. We just have 4 days there, but have much planned. After that we head to Vegas, Denver, South Carolina, Atlanta, Orlando, back north to D.C., New York, Niagra Falls, Ohio, Tennesse, then back to S.C. to fly back here to Adelaide. A trip of a lfetime for the kids and hopefully they will see the real America rather than the hollywood version. See ya soon.
