Mickey Hart is the undisputed spokesman for how I see (and saw) what was "happening" with this band and music. I'm relieved to know I'm not as crazy as some have suggested ("...fuckin' amateurs")*. I will take responsibility for being pharma~logically** naive, in my early daze. When I hear shows/interviews like this, I know I'm on the right track though, brakes be damned... Thanks DG! * - From the movie, "The Big Lebowski" ** - That's a new word I invented for this reply

Mickey Hart's Mystery Box is a wonderful CD, with lots of Robert Huner lyrics and angelic singing form a group called the Mint Juleps. Mickey's vocal on "Only the Strange Remain" is one for the books, too. They don't seem to have it in the online store here, but you can get it from Shout! Factory. Gans/GD Hour blog

This program had a very intriguing interview w M Hart . He shared many ideas and points of view of how things / business was in the early days . A very straightforward description of their view of how the music formed and influenced itself , which was , or is a very different story of what ' jam ' bands have as influences { now } nice music as well too

I passed on this installment initially, not being the worlds hugest MHart fan. But I fired it up yesterday as the snow fell- it's a glorious example of just how good a GDH can be. All previous posts here have hit the nail on the head as well. It's a wonderful interview. Hart's recollections have historical relevance and don't sound glazed over with nostalgia at all. Did he say he still had a photo of him and Weir hitchhiking to a Grateful Dead gig? I'd love to see that bad boy! And how about the music? Mystery Box is indeed a fantastic record, and that early Spanish jam from '68 kills. An episode very worthy of numero 1K.
