To Believe11/10/17 I have died a thousand deaths Still you take away my breath And Lord I need you by my side Or I won't make it through the night You've shown me things I never knew There's mystery in all you do And even if the sun don't shine I'll love you 'till the end of time You lift me up and lead me on You gave me hope when it was gone I saw your smile through my tears And knew there's nothing left to fear Some things we aren't meant to see And some things they won't ever be As long as it's still you and me There's still a reason to believe chorus And yes, there's still a magic we can share It's running through our fingers and it's floating in the air And yes, oh baby yes I still believe If we try we can find everything we need The seasons come the seasons go There's always something new to know Cause nothing ever stays the same The weather always wants to change So feel the sun and watch the storm And let each day a new love form A vision of what's meant to be To hold us for eternity And yes, there's still a magic we can share It's running through our fingers and it's floating in the air And yes, oh baby yes I still believe If we try we can find everything we need

    The Manifestations of the Voyage
my house's stairway is seizedwith vertigo. Matter having forsaken its laws, we land in hell, ascending to heaven. Shadows move along ladders under the silence of ordinary things there is another silence: it belongs neither to the leaves nor to the dead with a crown of birds circling him a child is running in an abandoned house the stairway takes the measure of its own emptiness I myself am the stairway that Time has used in its funeral course wheels lift water in the gardens of Hama and come down not waiting for the river to put out the fire Here we are left with the river Seine and Paris's poisons. I prefer gardens where linden trees get ready for a lunar voyage The stairway that separates my room from my memory whispers in my ear... I am not at the mercy of men since trees live in my fantasies men and trees long for fire and call for the rain I love rains which carry desires to oceans. Between one airplane and another space is disoriented stars sneak into holes and brides go naked to wells their innocence wanes under our eyes You and I are made from a worm-eaten wood The Word has sunk we are left with no cry gesture or gaze silence to us is forbidden. We are threatened neither by life nor by death nor forced to admire the Spring I found earth-castles on the edge of the desert's torrents I took their marble stairs but could not find my way either up or down then I understood that I was in a state of non-reason and non-madness and that the gardens of Andalusia were standing ready to die. Two cities Two tears Let insanity keep between its skirts legs within its black eyes the fright of my adolescence and the nocturnal walk on the hills: which hill? I mean the kingdom that a man carries in his gut when his love's fulfilled. Two cities which are neither Beirut nor Damascus two tears: neither of alcohol nor of rain Yes there has been a truck and a blue-eyed woman from Russia —grey olive tree— I was a butterfly caught by a fire: neither the day's not the night's but the incandescence that radiates from the body like a receding sickness, Let tombs stay open! The stairway which leads to my room borrows its metals from Babylon The Prophet's Ascension had two movements we fell into whirlpools of mud and the wind followed his horse A tempest went after the sun's steps The Prophet swam through waves of clouds a river of gold carried his vessel and away from the sun he reached Paradise a Paradise made of light. The stairway which leads to my room leads to an observatory I own two telescopes to observe stars and black holes and take mechanized stairs which advance with no advance my hair spins with sunflowers Illegitimate is this linden tree which shakes by my door let us get ready for Hell! Cursed be messengers tossing about water's tranquility and building forest fences Oh that the wind go quicker than us! that we may be smothered by light! This linden tree standing by my door weights heavy on my days I will finally marry it and we shall bring children condemned to terror this tree looks at me with insistence: It will be kept waiting until Time's end. - Etel Adnan from "The Manifestations of the Voyage" from The Spring Flowers Own & The Manifestations of the Voyage.

We were dancing - it must havebeen a foxtrot or a waltz, something romantic but requiring restraint, rise and fall, precise execution as we moved into the next song without stopping, two chests heaving above a seven-league stride - such perfect agony, one learns to smile through, ecstatic mimicry being the sine qua non of American Smooth. And because I was distracted by the effort of keeping my frame (the leftward lean, head turned just enough to gaze out past your ear and always smiling, smiling), I didn't notice how still you'd become until we had done it (for two measures? four?) - achieved flight, that swift and serene magnificence, before the earth remembered who we were and brought us down. - Rita Dove

One night a man was crying, "Allah! Allah!" His lips grew sweet with the praising, until a cynic said, "So! I have heard you calling out, but have you ever gotten any response?" The man had no answer to that. He quit praying and fell into a confused sleep. He dreamed he saw Khadir, the guide of souls, in a thick, green foliage. "Why did you stop praising?" "Because I've never heard anything back." "This longing you express is the return message." The grief you cry out from draws you toward union. Your pure sadness that wants help is the secret cup. Listen to the moan of a dog for its master. That whining is the connection. There are love dogs no one knows the names of. Give your life to be one of them. - Rumi

Music functions in a pattern. Patterns. Patterns function in a whiz; the worse for patternistry which is not there. The gems of few lines. Then - music functions whole, patterns into system patterns. Thus do patterns become history and music - forms. Yes, do pages of phrases write motion, still things - that move, that have lines in mystery, because the best music then forms benign of misery. Blues yes! The blues do. But there is the music -in the blues that do and mercuriate to fire straight lines, non-curve, in monohorizontal unperplexed – in placate history with story-flight that flies faster than the bumblebees, yet with a blue aura: time in history does form this semblance, gravity in norm as unquested and easy, easily drawn. Straight go: time as music alive between the heats -plus-non-plus quicker in deed than Hurricane Jackson the heavyweight, more Alice in Wonderland before the feet think twice is Monk's music is. 8/11/08 I'm not one to attract attention But there's something I have to mention Some might think it's an invention We believe it's true That His Love is bigger than a cadillac When He tries to show us but we drive him back Forgive us for the faith we lack And lead us home to you Some might say there's another solution But Heaven is my evolution I've seen enough of sins pollution To last me many lives And so I'll try to hang around Endure all I have lost and found Fight for Love another round Each and every day

Wake up, dig it, get jiggy with itOut the door, and then spin it Don't look back, gotta go Find something to call your own It's a wide-open feeling, as you fly through the air It's a wide-open feeling, to release all your cares It's a wide-open feeling, this Love that we have It's a wide-open feeling, don't drive yourself mad Looking left, looking right Straight ahead is your green light Put the pedal, to the floor Ain't no stoppin anymore It's a wide-open feeling, as you blast off the pad It's a wide-open feeling, maybe the best that you've had It's a wide-open feeling, this freedom we know It's a wide-open feeling, to let yourself go Out in front, the view is clearer The past is in the rear-view mirror Speed of light, stopping time Till I cross the finish line It's a wide-open feeling, as you're building up speed It's a wide-open feeling, when there's nothin you need It's a wide-open feeling, if you know who you are It's a wide-open feeling, you can shine like a star

I look at the starsFloating in the sky I'm stuck in a rut And I wonder why I need a jack And I need a tow I need a miracle To get to the show Along came a maiden With love in her eyes And for me she stopped While I sat surprized And then she said May I give you a hand? I'd like to help I'm with the band And I can see You've been through enough Come on and take A shower of Love Clean up yourself And get with the plan Show us your heart We understand

That's what poetry, lyrics, music is, after all. A gift from one heart/soul to another. Thanks to all who share their gifts. Here's another one. Still rough, but it's getting there. Can't help but think about All that might have been If I'd been a better man If I'd been a better friend. Would we have let the lovelight die? Would we have let the heartache in? If I'd been a better man If I'd been a better friend Well, I should have been a better man I should have been a better friend And I never should have let you go The way I did in the end It's too late now for turning back Time has passed to try again Wish I'd been a better man Wish I'd been a better friend

Hey, what's been goin' on? Hey, what's been goin' on? Hey, what's been goin' on, Since I been gone? C'mon now, let me see you smile C'mon now, let me see you smile C'mon now let me see you smile The smile I see inside you The smile I see inside you Hey now, there's nothing wrong Hey now, there's nothing wrong Hey now, there's nothing wrong That we can't fix it, in this song No, there is nothing wrong That we can't fix it, in this song Hey now, let's ride that train Hey now let's ride that train Hey now, let's ride that train Cause I think it's gonna rain Hey runaway, I love you Hey runaway, I love you Don't you runaway, I love you But you always do But you always do Hey, what's been goin' on? Hey, what's been goin' on? Hey, what's been goin' on Since I been gone? Haven't sung this in over 5 years, but I still love it as a poem. enjoy, andy

I wrote this one about 10 years ago when I was caretaking a place for six years in a geodesic dome on 40 acres on the side of Mt. Shasta with the closest neighbor the Ski Park two miles away and the closest town six and while I was hiking, mt. biking, or, for six months of the year, snowshoeing to to town I would see a lot of log-truck drivers and I put myself in their shoes for this one. Well I'm ridin' in my big rig Haulin' logs for Champion I got two more runs, to do today Before I cash it in And yes I love the forest And I wouldn't hurt a bunny But when it comes to me or trees I'll damn sure take the money Big trees, keep on fallin' Load em' up, and let me go So I can do my haulin' And when it comes to quittin' time And the beer-man starts a-callin' I'll park my rig, shoot a rack And order up a tall one These hippies and those Greenpeace freaks Get on my bloody nerves Just sittin' on their haunches Screamin', we must save the earth! Well if they had their way they'd soon be screamin' They were wrong It's no fun using corncobs When you're sittin' on the john And I believe in workin' hard for my pay I got a wife to feed, and kids to educate Don't take away my job, and put me on the dole I need to be a workin' man, it keeps me in control I'm rollin' down Route 89 It's another sunny day Two cuties in their sports-car Just gave me a wave Soon I'm off the pavement Winding up a dusty road I pull into the landing and I Grab another load Big trees, keep on fallin' Load em' up, and let me go So I can do my haulin' When it comes to quittin' time And the beer-man starts a callin' I'll park my rig, shoot a rack And order up a tall one

When I was young, Things went so slow You know how things Can go But now that I'm old and gray It's good to be Friends of the family. Things they go so fast today There's nothing that will last Past these days Everything is gonna Pass away so fast now Yeah, it's good to be Friends of the family Always far, and never near There's something still stays Together Through all the winds of Destiny that blow Yeah it's good to be Friends of the family. When I was young, you know, Things went so slow But now that I'm old and grey It's good to be Friends Of the family. -enjoy, andy

Puddlehead and Puddin' TimeCame out west in '49 To the gold fields they would go A miracle, was theirs to know They left St. Louie, one fine day Early in the month of May Onto the plains, they made their way The children laughed, the horses neighed Into the wilderness they moved Past the Omaha and Sioux They crossed the Rockies, by South Pass God's creations, built to last They endured both sun and shower Stopped a while at Franklin's Tower Re-supplied, and with new power Nothing here could make them cower Then one day they came to see A village of Shoshone They hailed the chief, and made their rest Smoked the peace pipe, passed the test Broke out fiddle, and banjo Danced all night under moonglow Good friends they had come to know But now it was time to go One last stretch of barren waste Was staring them right in the face They prayed unto their Lord and Giver And made it to the Truckee River Now more mountains in their sight They crossed over the Range of Light To Sutter's Fort, they made their way And waited out the winter's rains Prospecting in the spring thaw They moved up a secluded draw And there beside a rushing stream They knew that they had found their dream Puddlehead and Puddin Time Six long months they worked the mine Broke their backs in heat and cold And dug up fify pounds of gold

Stranger in a strange land I'm drifting away on Pink Fluffy Clouds I pause while the picture changes You seem to appear Right out of nowhere But it just keeps on Getting stranger, Stranger and stranger. You turn your head And toss your hair And I feel you Getting closer How can I get you to Come over here So I can tell you what I already told you What I already told yuh What I already told yu-uh. That I'm drifting away on Pink Fluffy Clouds I pause while the picture changes. You seem to appear Right out of nowhere, But it just keeps on getting Stranger and stranger Stranger and stranger.

What was that You used to say to me Things sure ain't What they used to be. Running crazy in the streets Living alone in between the sheets Was a struggle just to make it day-to-day Always looking for a better way. Never quite seen Anything come free No, things sure ain't what they used to be. Kids running crazy in the streets Night walker's dream, but they never sleep You talk so loud, but you look afraid Now it's time to sleep in the beds we made. So, well, come in to reality Still the same as it's always been And if you're still into the run around Well, everybody else long gone to ground. What was that You used to say to me Yeah things sure ain't What they used to be. -a

Hi folks, As the politicians continue their parties in this election season, I've written this little satirical rag to help us recover our righteous indignation and moral outrage over what these bozos have done to our country and world. Everyone can sing along: So, a one-a and a two-a: The Righteous Indignation Rag Welcome friends, how do you do Glad to see some of you pullin’ through Tell me now and tell me true Has this ol’ world been lyin’ to you Gather round and tip your hat The shadow man is the one in the black Got your name and number too Photographed in red, white and blue Blame it on the liberal pinko fags Do the righteous indignation rag You know, my god he don’t love the Jews The camel jockey ‘slamics too The Buddhists man can be such a bore Drop those atheists dead on the floor I know ‘cause Falwell told me so Now serving time way down below No air-conditioned fat cat limousine Just dinin’ on his sulfur and kerosene So be you straight or dressed in drag Do the righteous indignation rag Come on, boys, let’s join in the fight Through the gates of Hell we’ll be marchin’ tonight Dress you up in khaki and green A pocket bible and an M-16 You can fire on everything in sight God’ll sort ‘em out later tonight So jump onboard the war’s begun The new world order is a barrel of fun So wrap my ass up in the flag Do the righteous indignation rag They bomb my brain with EMP My guitar replies with its own remedy Dancin’ in the grass to keep me sane My mind goes a’ridin’ on the wind and the rain They call, “To arms!”, but I ignore Back myself right out of that door Locked forever, I’m gone, goodbye I got no mind for the idiot lies Time to split this scene’s a drag Do the righteous indignation rag Do the righteous indignation rag Do the righteous indignation rag… Peace, Byrd

I know it's been a long time And a long, long, lonely road. And I know that I hurt ya, babe And I just can't make that go. Baby, please don't make me Go through all this all alone It was hard enough before you left But now there's just no hope And if you're wondering why I called today I just called to say, Baby, I love you, and won't you please Come on home Baby won't you come on Won't you come on home. Baby won't you promise me You won't never, never go I know it's been a long road And you've come along, long way And I know that I hurt ya baby, And I just can't make that go away And if you're wondering Why I called today I just called to say Baby, I love you. and won't you please Come on home Baby won't you come on Baby won't you come on Baby won't you come on home.

Wakin' up this morning Drinkin' yesterday's coffee It's burnt tasting and bitter Just like the two of us. I think I'll let this morning Turn right into tomorrow I'm just gonna lean back And turn on the Jets Cause I got nothin' to add To this pile of words Just don't want to see you Turn your butter into swords So if you find me dreaming You might just leave me be Don't you know some stones Are better left unturned Sometimes it's better to Just walk on by Walk on by and Let sleeping dogs lie. Wakin' up this morning Drinkin' yesterdays coffee It's burnt tasting and bitter Just like the two of us I think I'll let this morning Turn right into tomorrow I'm just gonna lean back And turn on the jets.

Think you are a gifted poet. Agree w/Stuman-think you are very very good. Am really liking your poems-your style, your darkish undertones, the words you chose. They read like songs. Thank you sooo much for sharing!********************************** Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone, you will still exist, but you have ceased to live. Samuel Clemens

No please don't go Just please stay We will pass our time away Inside the sunshine That we have stumbled Upon. Now that you're home Stay awhile Take a load off your bones, And let me say I don't ever want to see You go away. --- a thanks for the kind words, stuman and tl. i'm just trying to express a little intelligence, while i appear to be here. at any given moment, i'm gettin' way more than i'm givin', especially when it comes to dead.net. i enjoy trying to find my way around this vast virtual library architecture, and reading yer'all posties. love, andy ps i try to tiptoe in while you're all sleeping, and lay little poem-roses on your pillows, for when you awaken.

Just give me a reason to believe, And I'll go on, Wearing my heart out on my sleeve, I'll carry on, Just give me a reason to hope, And I'll go on, No matter how steep the slope, I'll carry on, I'll carry on. Just give me a piece of your heart, And I'll go on, Just a little piece of your heart, That I'll carry on. Just give me a reason to believe, And I'll go on, Wearing my heart out on my sleeve, I'll carry on, I'll carry on.

Just need a moment to clear my head,Straighten my spine, Allow my spirit to rise. One more time singing, one more time bringing Everything to life, in my mind. Just need a moment to clear my head Straighten my spine, Allow my spirit to shine. Telephone wires singing, trying to get higher Thinking that, there are no words Words. I'll have nothing to do with them Words. Won't be the same when I get through with them Just need a moment to clear my head Straighten my spine, Allow my spirit to rise. Bird on the wire singing. I have no idea, What was I thinking? That there are no words Words. Well, I'll have nothing to do with them Words. Won't be the same when I get through with them. Just need a moment to clear my head Straighten my spine. Allow my spirit to shine. Wind on the wire Singing. I have no idea, What are you thinking? Words Words. Well, I'll have nothing to do with them Words. Won't be the same when I get through with them Just need a moment to clear my head Straighten my spine. Allow my spirit to rise One more time singing, One more time bringing Everything to Life. In my mind. -a

I ain't got no place to call my own I ain't got no place, I'm all alone Ain't got no wife Stay out all night Cause I ain't got no life. But i'll tell you why These are the best Days of my life Cause I got you Lord, cause I got you. I'm losing hair I'm losing sleep I'm making promises I can't keep Time slips away To no one knows where If I think about it too much I get scared I ain't got no place to call my home I ain't got no place, I'm all alone Ain't got no wife Stay out all night Cause I ain't got no life. But I'll tell you why These are the best Days of my life, Cause I got you, Lord, cause I got you.

Why don't we close our eyesAnd fall into the future Just so we realize What we are shooting for Why don't we close our eyes And fall inside Into the world inside our mind It's all right, yeah, it's so nice So, don't you be unkind And I think you will find Everything is gonna be alright In good time So clap three times And you will know the answer It works everytime We believe Takes us right through The eye of the needle You can't use force To get inside. So, Why don't we close our eyes And fall into the future Just so we realize What we are shooting for Why don't we close our eyes And fall inside Into the world inside our mind It's allright, yeah, it's so nice So, don't you be unkind And I think you will find Everything is gonna be alright In good time. -a

What you gotIt's all you need You could have nothing And still be Singing in the breeze. Don't hold yourself down Spread your wings and fly Or just walk on into town And let those cars go by. Cause what you got It's all you need Head up into the hills And camp out in the trees. No one can keep you down Spread your wings and fly Or just kick on back And stare up at the sky. Cause what you got It's all you need You could have nothing And still be Singing in the breeze.
