Why are you guys playing the Allstate Arena?
I just saw the commercial for the show on Comedy Central. I made that face when I heard the words Allstate Arena. I love this band and all variations of it. My first show was JGB 75 at the Auditorium, followed by the full band the next year at the Auditorium. I was 16. Then came the Uptown, Alpine Valley, The Greek, The Kaiser, Worcestor, Providence, Foxboro with Dylan, Edwardsville, The Stone, Soldier Field, etc etc I didn't miss many shows. I saw you at the Auditorium again, was it 2 years ago? The sound in that place and seeing you guys again there again was magical. That place is damn near acoustically perfect. The Allstate? It's great for hockey. Music, even yours, sounds like mud in that place. Which brings me to my question. Why are you guys playing this shithole again? You are some of the worlds premiere musicians, you know sound. The Allstate has none. There is virtually nothing that would get me to see a show at that place again. That could be why you guys are running commercials? p.s It was genius when you had John K join the band. He's amazing and I've been loving his playing for years. Peace, love, and birth control guys, Happiness in everything, even at the Allstate. Bob

Review for Friday Furthur @ Red Rocks
The highlights were: Cold rain & Snow; Money For gas; Two Souls In Communion;; Wheel>Death Don't Have No Mercy In This Lans Having said that, this show was a bit flat. Will have to give it another listen but based on last night's experience we're giving 2.5 stars.. There were plenty of moments to dance even so. Red Rocks is a beautiful place and I'm really glad I had a chance to visit. The people running the shows are mellow (except for the Nazi searching people going in to the show). If you ever get a chance to see a show here (if you haven't before) you definitely want to see this place overlooking the Den ver skyline. Obviously, my rendering of the Stones song We Love You is wrong. I'll try to post the lyrics here. It is the best new cover they are playing IMHO. Over'n'out, back through the looking glass!

Day 11: Furthur 2 year Anniversary Tour
Salt Lake to Denver is not such a bad hall. Saw the buses posting up at the rest stop at I80 & I25. Even as I made it in around 8:00pm after visiting friends in Fort Collins, there were many heads already registered here, 10 miles from the venue. The prevailing opinion on tour among "deadheads" (those who have seen Jerry play) is that they are playing better than any post-92 Grateful Dead. While I wouldn't go that far, I am willing to say that this band is really hitting it's stride and rocking out. If you have a chance to see anything on this tour I strongly recommend that you go for it. All those back east and Mid-West will have their chance in the Fall, but it'll be a grueling schedule for the boys and they may tucker out some, 'specially with two runs of 5 different cites in in 5 nights. The shows are sold out at red Rocks this weekend with a few thousand people looking for tickets. This should be the most intense crowd energy of the whole tour. People are psyched and generally very happy and upbeat. The by far lesser amounts of intensity in the crowd at Furthur distinguishes it from the day (as well, of course, as missing Jerry). There are a lot of people in the 45-60 and subset 60-75 crowd who just aren't up to partying liike it used to be. It's really chill to deal with people who have it together and there generally being a lot of space. Play list for Day 11: E72 Vol. 15: Rotterdam New Riders Of The Purple Sage: Greatest Hits Texas Blues w/other famous blues hits (Etta James doing Wang Dang Doodle, etc.) ~ The east is the beast But the West is the best ~

So Lamagonzo and I did get to meet up and have lunch together and excellent talk the day of the show. Great to meet you Gonzo. Ended up on the floor about 20 feet in front of Phil. Generally very good vibes. Lots of young heads on the floor around us, many whom never had seen the GD, but they knew the songs and lyrics, which some of them sang too loud and out of tune. But also some down there in 50s, including us. Deep in the vortex in front. A Stones song, a Dylan song, a Beatles song. Scarlet into Fire was excellent and of course Fire on The Mountain is what we live with here so folks really felt that one. King Solomon's Marbles and Viola Lee Blues - wow. Have a good time at RR - Oroboros, Jackstraw and Gonzo. They played Missoula - that alone is worth a huge beaming smile for those of us that live in the region. We didn't have to go to the coast! Shakedown Street scene made me flash back into the mid 80"s. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.

A Stones song. I've been away for a few days, am catching up on the Gonzo tour report and am jealous as all get-out. I did see Wilco a couple of nights ago, with Nick Lowe opening and showing up for a couple during Wilco's encore. Same venue in Raleigh as Furthur in July...fun, fun, fun!

Furthur was exploring new galaxies in mysoul with me last night. I heard the second set and the universe was shrunk to the size of a pin head and at that I jumped in to the abyss of what going forward entails. The house is filled with roses. God Bless the Streamer...maybe they will be there for tonight's show. To Furthur: You all are so talented and make this music so amazingly! I love hearing all the present day and traditionally-styled soul-speaking, mind-bending, infinite- emotion with hot-booty-shaking rock-n-roll. It's the Some of Best Music in the World ! Rock On and Keep On Smiling, xo! You've carried me and that's priceless. I needed to say thanks a trillion, xo! You all have filled my Dad's home with best that was so excellent, everything was excellent. He thought your music was great! So, thanks another trillion for making him so happy. I would dance whilest doing chores and such. His love will be everlasting and could only wish you all the very best of everything for you all. He thought the Grateful Dead was one of the Greatest Bands of All Time! We are inseparable, with in so many Dead songs (Arrrooooooo!) May every good wish be at your feet or perfectly at the tip of your nose....you'll have to look twice to acknowledge it. More love soon... and don't forget, I love you, ALL, xo~~~~ -----------------------------(-------@ the rose scent....

I am in awe and at inspirations door. But...I am frozen like a tree. At least I know it's there. What an awesome show! I love you, ALL, xo!

Wow, really great seeing the boys all bunched up on that little stage. Very nice webcast. The first song i caught was the Deal. Then Bobby crooning Black-Throated Wind. Gotta love it. There definitely is a difference with them in close proximity, at least to my ears. Check them out if you have the notion.

Big fun at the new Sweetwater last night with Furthur. It was great seeing them in such a small venue - capacity is only 313! I don't think anyone was more than 50 feet from the low stage. Kinda felt like I was back at the Keystone in Berkeley during the JGB days, except the Sweetwater is cleaner with a better sound system. Although I did like the free popcorn at the Keystone! The show was on the mellow side for the most part. The vibe in the room was palpably joyful, everyone having a real good time. Phil had a big smile on his face most of the night, John seemed to be enjoying his solos. Nice "kumbaya" moments, especially during "I Know You Rider," when the whole crowd pretty much took over the lead vocals. Looking forward to the streams for the next three shows.

Lots of nice jamming tonight. Mind boggling tangent on Doin' That Rag. Really nice. This night brings me moments of missing Jerry (as all Furthur shows do). The ineffable non-presence of the spoon that stirred the pot. Still I am grateful for this -- rolling into Watchtower from Stagger Lee now. Enjoy!

THANK YOU ALL! For all the all of it all. It's been so endearing for me, I didn't dance much this time around but laying on the speakers made for permanent contentment. That's plenty for me. May lovingkindness and good fortune be ever returning to you, all, xo. What goes around does come around, so enjoy it. Back of my memory is still troubling me but this has helped me so much and the miracles of tomorrow are at my door...today. I love you, ALL, xo.

What a wonderful run of shows at the Sweetwater! The folks in the band played and sang their hearts out. It was an absolute treat to see and hear them play in such an intimate and friendly venue. Leaving the building after the show, I experienced the same sense of satisfaction and wonder that I used to feel exiting Winterland, Kaiser, the Greek, etc. I am truly grateful that Phil and Bobby have assembled the talent to continue bringing us all the sweet music that has been branded onto our DNA for decades now. To the Furthur naysayers out there: you're missing something special, because the MUSIC never stopped.

I must concur all folks out there that haven't seen Furthur in the past three years are missin' out. I've seen nearly every new incarnation - The Dead - Phil & Friends- RatDog... and to my mind this is the one that gets me to the closest I've been to what Jerry once described as "Little Golden yummies that last for moments on end" or something to that affect. It's that thing that comity and conne ction,,The spiritual Big O that kept us all addicted to the Show! I'm jonesin' just thinking about it.We here in the South feel a bit gipped at times. Hope to see some FL. and Atl. shows on the summer sched. Till then I'll have to be content to see Warren and the Bros at Wanee next month. Also NMA, Galactic...

In my opinion, this night was so special, great setlist. Kadlecik was kicking on his new kustom guitar,a real beauty. His vocals on "Reuben and Cherise" were out of this world. "Built to last" done real well. Kadlecik was kind of taking over this night when Bobby was kind of in his own world. I think I had better get a CD of this Show. How good are the CDs done by the company that records them and sells them on the Furthur website? Jim

After checking Furthur's web page this morning and seeing that the summer tour will be going as scheduled I bought my ticket for Meadowbrook Amphitheatre. If you are going to this show you should know that they've changed policies and that it costs money to park: $5 to choke in the dust on the pavement $20 for premium parking on the grass $40 for VIP parking I opted for lawn seats and premium parking. The only good thing I can say is that it only costs $1.50 for total service charges that get you hard tickets mailed to you. Once again hoping that Bob has a good rest during his time off and is back on his game this summer!

Hey now! Talking about trips... Help get the message out, if you can. Furthur is bound for Cooperstown, NY... This Upstate NY Venue just miles from where the severe flooding occurred. The amount of debris and household waste is tremendous, folks are exhausted too. Please if you can- sher this: Please take your trash with you when you leave, plan smart for recycling and minimal waste. I am praying with great supplication that the Historic and Excellent town of Cooperstown shall not suffer our arrival or departure. It's so special and it's kept clean and quaint and a true it's heritage. It's all about Baseball and the perfect embrace of entertaining ourselves with this things we love best. Thanks in advance if you sher this. I am always proud of music but not the mess and these communities have been hit really hard. Love one another... XO

Oh and,yeah... Check for detours, most are only a few miles others more lengthy. No worries a detour can and will get you there. Get a fill up for gas about 30 miles outside Cooperstown as it will be difficult to gas in the town of Cooperstown; you will be glad you did, xo (love you, all) Cooperstown is not a city and a small town, to be sure. Get a parking spot where ever you can and wear walking shoes. Stop in Schildman's Bakery for a baked-perfect treat, if you can. Go early and tour... The Baseball Hall of Fame, it's awesome and air-conditioned- No place like it in the World! Enjoy a beer at the pub and wet yer whistle; the beers always cold. Everything is beautiful in Cooperstown. The pier has a big lawn for hanging out. Stagecoach Coffee House is one of my most favorite places to go when I am there. When my John would receive medical treatment at Bassett Hospital we would go there and it is the best. Old fashioned and serene, this place takes the world away. Pastries and sandwiches delicious, get one for after the show. Cooperstown is one of my Favorite places, to be sure. I love you, all, xo!

Furthur has announced it's 2014 hiatus and Phil has just stated that he is "Off the bus" after 48 years of touring. It seems while there is a chance of more Furthur shows in 2015 and beyond the great wheel of time (Kalachakra in Tibetan tantrism) is spinning. What really needs to be stated is a big Thank You! to Bob & Phil, Jeff & JK and the rest of the crew for the incredible # of shows they did in almost 5 years! On the Internet Archive there are 1050 shows listed (some of those are multiple recordings for the same date). 4,743,365 shows have been downloaded from Archive. I believe all should acknowledge that this is a pretty formidable and prodigious amount of music for the remaining members of the band in their sixties and seventies. Really a remarkable body of work for folks who deserved to be in retirement. You might not have liked them for whatever reason. God knows I had some issues with who is singing whose song. But in the end you just have to step back and applaud and be grateful. The following dates are scheduled in 2014: 4 shows in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico in mid-January. 1975 all over again? I don't think so, but who knows? Thank you Furthur, for a real good time!
