I don't claim to be an expert, and I have not listened to as many shows as some of you. Ok, with that said, the Eyes version here on Disc 2 is one of the most addictive versions I have ever heard. It's certainly not the best version I have heard ( 1 from Vault 1975 is best in my opinion). But Bob's rhythm chords and noodling (I think guitar players call this voicings) is absolutely addictive, and I can't get it out of my head. His playing is very catchy. I don't remember Bobby playing the rhythm exactly like this on other versions I have heard. Listen to his playing at 1:00 through 1:15 and 3:00 through 3:15 minutes as examples. As a late 80s' head, I am so dang frustrated that Bobby ditched his hollow-bodied Gibson guitars in the early 80s and used solid-bodied guitars with distortion for the rhythm tone of the Dead. It just clashed with Jerry's clean tone. "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do"--Lion Wizard of Oz

I only pointed this "speck" out because of a personal experience I had. Basically the data is burned to the bottom side of the coating on the top of the CD. There is a protective cover/film on the bottom side of the CD but there is no protective coating on the top. If you scratch off the top of the CD (the side where you write on with a marker), you are putting holes in your data. I got it and will mail to Dead Man Telling Tales. I also made 5 extra color copies of set-lists (CD covers). Notes: CD #2 has a small black speck about 1/4" from the center hole. It is visible on the top and bottom side. I had no problems playing or copying but it is something to watch. This speck likely affects the first long track--Playing in the Band--based on its distance from the hole as the CD burns from the center out. Basically the speck is a small hole on the top of the CD where the surface has scratched off but it is visible on the bottom side too. It's microscopic so you may not even see it. I am a stickler for detail so I tend to find these things. It's not anything I did or even Markinthedark--but a cosmetic flaw. Again, I had no problems playing or copying. I did not notice any glitches on the first track. "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do"--Lion Wizard of Oz

Hi, The Roscoe Maples Pavilion 2/9/73 vine reseed is on its way to Exploratory Data Analysis. I've included three copies of the setlist covers, so naturally a fourth person has signed up. If somebody (#11, 12 or 13) has a color copier please make an extra copy so arkdeadhead will get a set, or, if arkdeadhead has a color printer I can make scans and send them to you. Let me know. Hi kids, The Maples '73 vine arrived today, I should get it back on the road after the weekend. water_source, I have your address but no name to go with it, unless "water_source" is acceptable on the envelope. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely handle "water_source", just not one normally seen on envelopes. Let me know. Cheers, MitD

David, you got me looking forward to listening to the Eyes from this show. It is probably my favorite Dead song and I love how it changed depending on the era. "Let there be songs to fill the air."

I like the late '73 (November) and '74 versions with that unmistakable jam jingle near the end of the song (same jam jingle shown in Grateful Dead movie version). This little jam was repeated and seemed to have been dropped after '74. It's not in the Maples '73 version. But it's in the Miami 6-22-74 Jai-Alai Fronton version from the vine I got here. The climax jingle thingie I am referring to is at 11:30 minutes in the 6-22-74 Eyes. "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do"--Lion Wizard of Oz

I agree with you about the 74 versions, I love them. I like the 77 versions, but I think they were played too fast. Try RFK 6/10/73, its 20 minutes of heaven. I love versions where Phil really gets off. For a decent Brett era version, I like Cleveland 11-29-79.When I was actively going to a lot of shows, 78-83, it seemed like they played Estimated> Eyes almost every show. I remember sometimes being disappointed, but what I wouldn't give to go back in time and re-live those "grate" times. "Let there be songs to fill the air."
