Who to vote for? I enjoyed the wealth of the Clinton years, could this be a repeat? I know absolutely nothing about Obama, except that he is younger. That could be a good thing. I know all about Bob, Phil, and Mickey's veiws, but do I want to support the California dream? I am really iffy on this issue. My primary is coming fast and I really need to make a decision, we shall see.

Bobbalee, I am actually a registered Libertarian and I registered for the party when I was in High school and always liked the idea that "nobody should tell me what to do while I am in my own home." But as I have many agreements with the Libertarian party I also have many disagreements such as no gun laws, no environmental laws, no social programs, little to no government. Maybe I am a bit out dated on these policies but this was the Libertarian point of view when I was following it closer. If I am wrong please correct me. I have been a fan of Milton Friedman (economics geek here) but I always had many questions about minimizing the role of government in a free market. This is sort of Bush’s policy on global warming. Let the market figure it out as it knows more that the government when it comes to such issues. I studied Friedman’s quantity theory of money and we can even say that Friedman is responsible for the connection between inflation and money supply and hence our current interest rate system that the Fed uses today. Federal Funds Rate etc. But I think you disagree with this right? Please tell me more about the Libertarian party as I have been out of touch with them for some time.

Sorry to burst everybodys bubble. The difffernce between OBama and McCain is about 15%,Dems and Repubs are two gangs that are constantly fighting over the turf called USA. I suggest you learn about the Libertarian party ot the libertarian philosophy. Ron Paul is a libertarian running as a republican in the primarys. I like Obamas attitude however his policies will not get through Congress. Clinton has the smarts to be president but is so politically slimey she inspires no one. McCain well it won't be Bush 3 however he will be tied to an old corrupt party. Look behind each parties stance: Dems will talk about education however what they mean is "as long as the NEA controls it." Repubs say school choice but what they really want is tax dollars going to religous schools. The same for defense, farm policy, Social Security etc. They use their power to reward their friends and punish their enemies until they cough up protection money. Both parties will do anything to stay in power. They start wars, find enemies everywhere and think nothing of stealing our rights to make sure they keep their system going. Our gov't owes between 10-15 trillion dollars in unfunded gov't pensions, subsidies, Social Security. Medicare. See the Fed lowering interest rates? (not for us) After the election they will rise sharply. Why? because our dollar is becoming weaker and weaker. It will not attract the people who buy our debt the people who own the debt will demand higher interest rates. Why do we still have troops in Europe and Japan? Why do we insist on surrounding Russia with NATO countries. Why? because our industrial military/welfare complex needs to have a large military to keep the economy humming. Dems will scream bloody murder when somebody wants to cut out the military base in their district. Repubs claim they want a smaller govt but have done nothing to shrink gov'r unless its to let corporations off the hook when they make a bad business deal. Both .parties use the fear of other peoples and countries to keep the military industrial complex going go into the ghetto every politican is running a welfare office-I used to insure an AIDS clinic in Miami-they never seemed to have the money to staff the clinic with doctors and medicine. But every board member got their $60,000 salary. and they were all connected pols. when my wife was a Masters degree candidate the welfare agency she worked at made up dozens of fake clients to get more grant money-she refused to sign off on it and was terminated. The owner was an elected official who plays the race card every election. Want to change the system? Read books by Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman and stop looking the other way. Free your self and your mind first. Oh and listen to the Good Ol Grateful Dead. And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

I was not sure who I would vote for this time around but then I read “audacity of Hope" and I made up my mind. Barack Obama is what I think of when I read parts of the constitution. He is the memory I have of reciting the pledge of allegiance back when I was in 1st grade. Really, he is a reminder of what I was always taught and believed. I also feel his foregin policy will be more intuned with reality as he as actually lived outside the US. Lets see what happens but Barack Obama is change.

If I vote for someone and they later do something really fucked up, as they always do, then does that mean I am partly responsible? And if I don't vote to keep out the most evil one, what then? Obama seems like a nice guy. Talks the talk, but can he walk the walk? We have no real way to know. He kinda back stabbed his minister but had little choice as to not do so would have been suicide, perhaps. I would tend to favor him although I'm sure he has a snowballs chance in hell of beating McCain. Hilary, where to start... I find her to be completely false and untrustworthy. Having said that, her and Bill back in the White House would basically be a rerun of Bills term without the Monica thing. That wouldn't be so bad. But she has no chance of beating McCain. McCain, since Bush cheated him last time around he seems to have been playing the game of play submissive to the big dog until in a position to take over with the big dogs help. Has this changed him, or is he still the same maverick under the hood? He's actually the most liberal Republican of this era. He's a true war hero in an age where the term is loosely thrown around, and has the most experience. I think he's a man of conviction even if I don't agree with all of his positions. I think he will bring the troops home in the right way if given the chance. I don't think he really wants the war to go on any longer than necessary but u never tell the enemy your plans so it's intelligent to demoralize the enemy by saying you'll stay 100 years if necessary. I think when all the hoo-haa dies down Americans will take him as the most steady, stable choice. Are you kind?

Yeah, I missed the Dead "re-union", being in Idaho. Location notwithstanding, some bloggers missed it too, (the point, that is...). It's all about change."The sun will shine in my back door someday". Maybe that day has come. Barack Obama is a decent man. Hillary & McCain; more of the same. Everyone, please, open your eyes... They are part of the political machinery that has been steamrolling over Americans, bargaining with lobbyists, and selling out to the "pro-life-war-mongering", constitution stomping, big brother, elitist right! Educate yourselves and do some research to find out the depth and breadth of lies that spew forth from Hillary's pie-hole. We don't need another liar in the house; male OR female. She has lied about her experience. She never had security clearance and sleeping with slick Willy doesn't count...Talk to Northern Ireland. She brought peace to them don't you know? All of Ireland is laughing about that...Macedonia? She claims to have opened their borders... funny, they were open before she even arrived and Bosnia...well you know how she ran from the plane under sniper fire...liar, liar, liar. The list is long...She didn't even pay the health care premiums for her OWN STAFF!!! Liar, liar, liar!!!! S-Chip for childrens' medical care? Check out her claims on that issue...Don't be fooled by the wolf in womens' clothing. Ship of fools...sail away from me...

my husband's all for Obama, change, get a fresh start out of the washington bogged down with lobbyists,etc... but to be in a position to gain the nomination in the first place, you're already part of the 'old boy's network'. Hillary has connections, not experience. if she had experience it meant that she was privy to decision-making she wasn't allowed to be privy of. so Obama has a good enough record, keeps harping on the war vote, a vote like many that he refused to give a vote on, has dirty Chicago politics behind him- and all that against a war hero who is a hawk that wants to continue a non-sensical war because 'we' will show the world as leaders how it's done. I live in a very densely democratic area, eastern pennsylvania- and it'll give Obama the vote most likely, but the center of the state is rural, we call it Pennsyl-tucky, sometimes pennsyl-bama- and I have a feeling that like a lot of places everywhere, NRA card-carrying militia members and most southern men aren't giving Obama a vote. As much as many don't want more Clintonism, or a woman in the white House, they'd sooner vote for McCain to cancel out Obama. The vote swing this time is the young vote. I lost my first vote of Carter VS Reagan, but this time we need the USA to be concerned with world issues that don't revolve around where we get our oil. If McCain wins- then education is kaput! No child left behind isn't a possibility and is an utter travesty and affront to public education. $$$$ spent on waste- we will have no Social security at all, cost of living will push anyone out of the middle class, and the minority achievement and employment gaps will increase even more. Unemployment will be more epidemic than now, which is at an all time high.. I am scared because if I had to bet who will win, I think deep down that most Americans are going to go with McCain- I'll still go Democratic, but I think the young have to rock the vote and go to the polls in numbers! Now I have to decide if Hillary's politics are any better or worse than Obama's- so far tObama just appears to be more civil. get all your friends out to vote! get anyone you know registered republican to get it changed so they can vote in their state's primary... and then vote! We are our own worst enemies- remember, Bush got RE elected, people didn't get enough the first time going! Ami

this is an ideal all humanity is born to strive for, it's what makes us human, with the ability to think and reason, and make this planet better every moment of time for all life on earth.Do unto others as you would like others to do unto you. It is universal, all incompassing. The more you receive of goodwill and love, the more you will want to give of the same. It is a geometric progression and the key to life on this tiny planet in this incredible universe. If you keep this thought as you interact throughout your journey here, you will become the building blocks of the universe. Pretty cool. Something to hang your hat on. peace,pk

Hal R I think the Neil Young, Bruce, and Phil were from another thread... But since you brought it up, let me clear it up. I think music should be kept seperate from politics. Even Bob Dylan never named names, he would just get people thinking about political themes... What I see coming from Phil, Bobby, Bruce, and Neil Young these days is a bunch of telling people WHO to vote for, and being quite blatant about it. And, yes, it will cause their musical careers to FADE AWAY. I went to see Phil in Charlotte NC the other day, and the Phil show was blown out of the water by the Allman Brothers Band (who opened for them!). Phil needs to spend more time gettting his band sharp, getting good cameramen, and getting good mixing board techs, and possibly picking up one more guitarist, rather than going down the depressive road of politics -- especially for that wet noodle, Barack Obama. That was my point. And Sarah Palin is a sharp cookie ... but she became victim of a vindictive interview, and a editing designed to rip her to pieces. No matter what the woman would have said would have been wrong ... There have been tons of these types of interviews, gaffes, studderings, and confused moments, etc., of Obama, but the press sweeps those under the carpet. If this woman had been running for President for the last 2+ years, she'd be head and shoulders above Obama or anyone. At the moment she is playing catch up, but in the end, she has real substance, and will be light years ahead of any party-line politician like Obama. Greg SC

Now this is just a thought......but maybe.... just maybe.... the political landscape has changed over the years....I dunno, everything else has, so why not politics and the way that the monster is ran. I have no problem with ANYBODY stepping forward and presenting who they are or aren't supporting. They...just like you SC have everyright to to show support for one candidate or another. You don't have to agree with them, and if it's more than you can stomach, then by all means it's up to you to decide if you even wanna support the person that's doing the supporting. Pretty novel idea I know, but it's "your" choice to decide what to do with what you see and hear. Ever since the "Rock to Vote" campains started, it has grown into people from all aspects of life on BOTH sides of the party lines showing their support of a certain candidate. Since there seems to be people (and although very sad and pathetic) that can't decide for themselves what's best for them, You now have people trying to inform others on what they think is best. I may be totally misunderstanding you and the point your trying to make here, but in a way, your doin pretty much the same thing on this board as Phil, Bobby, Bruce, and Neil are doin in concert. You've been pretty vocal on who you support, and that's your right I guess...as far as Palin...I can't stomach her, and find the little winks and smiles at the camera repulsive. She's not your "average" joe...She's nothing like me, or anyone else I know....ya know..."Your Six Pack Joes". or whatever it is she calls them. But hey, If there is any beauty in Politics at all, and I don't think there is...It's that you have the right to your own opinions, and you have the right to voice them, and get this....YOU have the right to vote! What ever your convictions are that helps you decide what you think is best, you get to use them. Get what I'm sayin'....The 4 above metioned individuals, that you are so put off by right now, becouse of the stances they've decided to take...Right or Wrong...It's their choice my friend. That's why, me personally, hate discussing politics. It tends to lead to angry and hurt feelings most of the time. People can be so compassionate about their beliefs, they tend to forget, that the people their discussing it with, are just as compassionate. Oh well....I better quit rambling here...I tend not to make alot of sense most of the time,..lol.. So sorry if I've carried on. Just my 2 cents.

At the moment she is playing catch up, but in the end, she has real substance, and will be light years ahead of any party-line politician like Obama. So let me get this straight...the VINDICTIVE questions like "What newspapers do you read?" and "How does Alaska's close proximity to Russia give you foreign policy credentials?" were GOTCHA questions? Unfair journalism??? SHARP??? Put down the crackpipe and slowly walk away. Medic? Over here in SC... Dude...she has yet to be able to sit down and answer ANY question with authority. TWO DAYS AGO, she was questioned on the export of Alaskan oil to China. I'm sure you've read one of many articles on this - here's a quick reference. It's an AP article - all sources verified: http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-politics/20081010/Palin.Oil.Export… Now, PLEASE stop pretending this woman is "on the ball". She came out swinging and energized her party to the point where I was getting nervous. Then the real Sarah Palin came through. She WILL make a good politician ONE DAY. She's not ready for prime time, bro. Obama - wet noodle? You mean the man who's rallied over 20 MILLION people, including THOUSANDS of hard-core conservatives (like 6 seperate households on my own street?!!) to back him? Yeah, wet noodle....classic. Read his plan. Read McCain's plan. One is filled with vision and common sense and shows how everything is paid for. The other does nothing but say how he thinks his opponent will bring this country to "the brink of disaster" (apparently worse than we already are). I'll let you guess which plan belongs to whom. They are both available on their respective websites for public download. I recommend some reading. ~ Pappy "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

I am totally agree with keeping music separate from politics. But since we have opened the can of worms, here are some things to think about. Obama: Occidental College - Two years. Columbia University - B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations. Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude & Biden: University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science. Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.) vs. McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 out of 899 (meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class) Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism Palin created a highway on an island across from Juno to link the mainland with an airport. When it was finished she vetoed the bridge to the mainland, wasting 17 million dollars. Before she was governor she was mayor of a town of 5000. She has never been out of the country. McCain only became a P.O.W. by being one of the worst naval pilots ever. The first time he was shot down he was trying to steal a plane to fly to Pennsylvania to see his girl friend. There is just about as much dirt on Obama. He did associate with terrorists, when he was six. In his books, Obama admits attending "socialist conferences" and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a "hard-core academic Marxist," which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes. Anyway, I don't think either candidate is totally honest or even a good American. I do believe in knowing the truth. You can find any of this via Google search engine. Make sure to triple cross reference, since there is a lot of dirt being thrown. STAY AWARE!!!!

Billy and Is420 I couldn't agree with you more! Amen! The only reason I am even stating on these threads who it is I support, is because Phil and Bobby (and Bruce, and Neil), have decided to get political. So once that starts, it gets polarizing. That is why I am horrified that Phil and Bobby have twice now publicly designed fundraiser shows for Obama. I think it stinks. I never used to talk politics to anyone. I would just sit there, drink a beer, and have fun, keeping my political thoughts to myself. But now, these guys are out there stirring up a hornet's nest. They should really think about what they are doing. But then, maybe they now have enough money not to give a crap. I also can't help but wonder why Phil, a guy who went through hell with his liver transplant, is now supporting an Anti-Life candidate like Obama. It blows me away. Greg SC

The Republicans had their chance and what do we get - 4,000 American's killed in Iraq for George JR and his big lies and future generations will be paying for it. McCain is still in a Vietnam War type mentality. He thinks that war could have been won and this one too. Sinking more American lives and money into death for nothing. Thank you for your service now go off and die for us. Something some of us have a major problem with. Those of us who aren’t fortunate sons see our relatives and friends end up maimed, psychologically damaged and dead for the lies of the rich Bush and McCain types of this country. Plus all the innocent Iraqis. And this is pro-life? I think a woman should not be forced by a patriarchal system to carry through with an unwanted pregnancy. That early in the pregnancy she should be given a choice. You and I obviously disagree on when an independent life begins. It is a difficult choice, I leave it up to the individual woman to decide, you don't, you feel that you have the answer for her. Sarah Palin strong, sure, maybe like an ox barging its way through a kitchen. Independent, sure, but being president is about working with others and reaching agreement. I don't think she has these skills. A wink doesn't do it in the realm of world politics. She is not dealing with Joe six pack here. Hal R I am not for this war. That is why I liked Ron Paul. But I am not for socialism either. And that is one of the many reasons why I do not like Obama. I would respect Phil and Bobby if they just had an "end the war" fundraiser. But they instead hold fundraisers for a man who can't make up his mind on anything associated with the war. As for being Pro/Anti-Life, well, there is a woman in Florida (Caylee Anthony) who might have killed her daughter. And the police are trying to get to the bottom of it. If we can all agree that the state rightfully sees this crime as a possible taking of a human life, and not a mother's choice, then you might begin to understand my position when it comes to being Pro/Anti-Life. I personally understand that sometimes a pregnancy must be terminated, but today, abortion is being used as birth control. And if anyone doesn't see that, well, so be it. But Obama, in the Illinois senate, voted in support of a bill stating that if a baby survives abortion, and is still alive outside of the mother's womb, then he/she should be -- legally -- left unattended until he/she dies. That is sick, and he is a sick man. I have heard stories from nurses who have quit the abortion industry because they have witnessed that very thing, watching as the baby coughs and chokes until it dies. Greg SC

I really hope Phil will also take this opportunity, to remind everyone to be an organ donor, too. when there are really impotant issues which should be shared, people in 'celebrity' tend to feel "responsibility"to express their views.

Funny how things and words get changed. The battle use to be Pro-Life vs. Pro-choice. Now the "Far Right" has changed it to "Anti-Life" It's such a new term, that it's mostly used by the zealots you see marching if front of clinics calling people murderers. Dude...IT IS A WOMANS "CHOICE". Who's "Right" is it to pass judgment on any woman who "Chooses" that abortion is right for her? I know it's not mine...your's....or anyone elses. When there comes a time for judgement, it's between that person, and which ever higher power you believe in, to work that out. Not someone here! I'm just awed at how some people believe it's their duty or "RIGHT" to carry the sword, and try to pass judgemnt on somebody. As a male, I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what a woman has to go through. I can't even begin to fathom what would go through a womans mind when it came time to decide something like that. I have HUGE respect for a lady that decides either way. Dude...it's their "CHOICE"...not your's or mine. Again...just my 2 cents.

Thank you for your replying to my comment, I think that exchanging ideas is the better way to grow...but let me say one more thing...I don't think that Palin is a really stupid woman, I mean, she's the candidate for vice-president uh? Fact is that I read on the newspaper all these interviews where she stated about the willing of god (?!) to support the war in Iraq..hey, do you know the meaning of bombing people who, basically, are like you and me? Killing people, children, to kill one terrorist..does it worth the price? For the sake of the good life of the middle-classes all over the world? To say things like those, to me, sounds fascist..or maybe nazi too. And, to add more, but it's only my own mind, I don't like these pro-life movements..I think that a woman is free to decide (aside from the fact that before the 24th week there is no possibility of life)..or is she only a body carrying something? Don't you think that animals behave like this (but in this case without a fault on their side)? And then, what could be the real difference with the way of thinking of those countries where women have to wear a burqa and can't decide about themselves? I think that if the world, and the U.S. above all keep on ' going away with these ideas of having the relationships between countries, and between human beings regulated by "god" or whatever name you will call it, the world just won't change. Men and women with eyes wide open, looking at the world with a real human way of feeling, tryin' to talk to each other rather than stickin' out guns is what we need or nothing will change.I don't know if Obama-Biden could be really different, it just seems to me that they can't be worse than McCain-Palin..sometimes hoping is a good way to begin.

"And that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Quote from Gettysburg Address, by Abraham Lincoln Nov. 19, 1863 Oct. 12, 2008------ FUCKED AGAIN ! ( pardon my French, but actually it's English as it supposedly stands for "Fornicating Under Consent of the King") The federal government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed! Darn, it just doesn't get more accurate than that. peace & love, Gypsy Cowgirl

Good ol GD Gypsy, thats funny as "fuck" (from the German to hit) I need to remember that, kinda reminds me of the dicks, assholes and pussies speach for the Team America movie, good job with the Gettysburg part though, "Power to the People right on"!

OH MY GOD! Good ol GD! just typed in the "F" word in the dictionary on the computer & it does say it's of German origin. (16th century) I will have to tell my friend who told me it's English version (Fornicating Under Consent of the King) Either way, I still think the American Emblem should be fucking changed....... Love American History-it's too bad, we, as a nation seem to have gotten lost since Lincoln's Gettsyburg Address...... Power to the People!!Yeh! xoxox Gypsy Cowgirl

I cannot believe the news that the dead are supporting Obama. I have been a deadhead for 30 years and I thought they were smarter than that. Don't get me wrong I don't like McCain either. We need less government interference in our lives not more. Vote libertarian. if the people would support an alternate candidate they would have a chance. To those who like Gore, wait a few years. You will find that the global warming train is a hoax. Follow the money people, don't be so naive.

Hey Gypsy Hey Gypsy know this one? "Gimme an F, gimme a U etc etc what's that spell? what's that spell. well c'mon all you big strong men Uncle Sam needs your help again". Anyway I'm a history buff too. And think that alot of the american public have forgotten where some of their most basic of freedoms came from. Bet if you ask on the street who is honest Abe they couldn't tell you. kinda sad. anyway Wave that flag wave it wide and high do to do. Hey hevster, on global warming, it was created by the media man.
