Hey everybody,on the last two STASH radio shows in Hamburg, Germany I presented some tracks from the Grateful Dead (The Grateful Dead RT1.3 > Egypt 78 > RT1.4) and wonderful sounds from the Swiss psychedelic blues-rock jamband Ginger (with FOTM Jam and other studio improvisations). You can listen to the German spoken radio shows here: http://www.stash-radio.de/archiv.htm And what else is going on in Germany? NYE - yeah. For example in Hamburg with the Hamburg-based GD tribute band Cosmic Finger or in Nuernberg with Dead Again or in Wolfsbehringen with Ginger...

Tell me more please about Dead Again in Nürnberg. Will be there in Feb. and had no idea was such a band in that area. Wanna look whether would be lucky enough to be able to hear them.********************************** Don't part with your illusions. Hi TigerLilly,Dead Again is a Nürnberg-based GD cover band. They just had their 4th band birthday but I've never seen them live. Here you get some informations from and about them: http://www.myspace.com/gratefuldeadagain http://www.dead-again.de/ Pegnitzbühne is a famous club under deadheads in Nürnberg: http://www.pegnitzbuehne.de/ http://www.myspace.com/428527371 Another very interesting band down there are the Mars Mushrooms: http://www.marsmushrooms.de/ http://www.myspace.com/marsmushrooms I love their sound! Not very often on stage these days because their bass player is in the States right now (http://choffmann.wordpress.com/) but I'll play some cool MM jams in my next STASH show on 9 Dec (together with Phish Hedphones Jam, Ginger, Captain Obvious, Dark Star Orchestra and Gary Gates). No offense to anyone, but I can't believe some people in the U.S. complaining about an 8 hour drive to get to a Dead show etc... what about those of us overseas? Man, I used to hitch across the U.S.A. to see the Dead, with NO money in my pocket. I always found a way! I even traveled all the way from the south of New Zealand once JUST to get to do Spring Tour (surely a Deadhead record) arriving around midnight the night before with no idea of where I'd stay, just heading to the lot and seeing what happened. I've even had to be in the States illegally to see shows as I got deported years ago for swinging on the lot. This is what being Deadicated really means! I'm happy for everyone in the U.S., but my heart is breaking at the same time. I don't think I can handle the stress of going into the States illegally again to see the boys even though I know I'd see a lot of old friends. My best friends, the best u could ever wish for. My family. But with the way the U.S. is like a police state these days the chances of getting caught and put in jail for a year or two just for entering illegally is probably too much for me. Bob, Phil, Bill and Mickey... Please come to Europe... PLEASE, PLEASE everyone, post asking the guys to tour Europe this year!!! If we all kick up a fuss maybe we could get lucky and see them one more time... this could be our last chance..! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Are you kind?"

That would be Grateful, Have not seen the band since 1979 in London with their fabulous Wall Of Sound. A tour would be a good antidote for a America who is in war with so many world citizens and a Europe who is following the same path. It would be a miracle every day... come on Uncle Johns Band give us a brake on the land. So happy to have my daily dose of your unique music and after almost 38 years still discovering new material... What a long strange trip...

I wonder what the band's requirement would be to come over and do some shows? Would they prefer to have promoters in Europe handling things, or Americans. Also, how the money side would be handled. When Bob played up in Scandinavia recently I get the feeling he was offered a stack of cash by some rich guy. If money is the issue it would be interesting to know how much they would hope to gross. It's a difficult calculation to estimate what size venues they could fill without Jerry. What do the rest of u guys and gals think? Paradiso (Amsterdam) sized venues? Fabrik in Hamburg, Stash? Or bigger? Opinions please..! :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Are you kind?"

One for the money, two for the show ... No idea what can be the real driving force for The Band to move towards Europe. Is there a way to ask them? And would they reply ? Jerry is in the music, and in our souls, so are all the members of the band... With and or without Jerry ... Daybreak on the land... It is getting WEIRD ... You always need a plan B.... There are still tickets for sale in the US ... maybe Sail or Fly over.... Any candidates ? "Sail away ship of fools" ... "So Many Roads" ... Deadheads from all over the world coming together ... in Europe to ???

Well a lot of folks would certainly come over from the States as everyone knows how special a European Tour is and plus it would most likely be the last chance to be a part of such a historical event. I couldn't make it to any of the past European Tours due to circumstaces beyond my control. Does anyone who was on these tours know roughly how many came from the US. Did some venues have a greater percentage of Americans than others? We could do a rough calculation by comparing attendance at US shows when Jerry was around with attendance now. If we could assume the same ratio holds true in regard to Euro Tours past and now, with a slight bonus attendance based on it being probably the last Euro adding an extra incentive for possible attendees, we might have a fairly reliable guesstimate of what size venues the boys could book in Europe for a tour. Then gross earnings would be able to be estimated. Plus we could then make a list of suitable venues. Much love, J ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Are you kind?"

Hi again friends,As soon as we got the news of the 2009 Tour of The Dead we talked about how we always say:'wish we were there'. Although it will never be the same without Jerry, it will probably be a last chance to attend a show with the four remaining band members. I could never figure out why these guys call themselves The Dead as they are the only band members who are NOT dead. Is nostalgia an excuse? OK. yes. My brother lives in Chicago and we have never visited him there. Another excuse. I decided to try to get tickets for the Chicago show. If I was luckey to get tickets and we decided afterwards that we did not want to go I could always sell the tickets on EBay, right? another excuse. Exactly on time I was ready at the computer to log on. Then all the sites became corrupt. I tried and tried. Then we got the message that due to an overload everybody was put on hold. After four hours, working on two computers with mulitle log ons, I got my tickets! Suddenly the option of selling the tickets was discarded. Not for any money! 'Yes, we come!!' We booked a flight and this time we will attend our first show ever. We will keep you informed. Anybody else going to one of the shows? Off course, if they ever come to Europe we will be there as well. Great thought: all the poeple of this group together in the first rows. Ship of Fools

Hi There, I've become a fan of the grateful dead since my father told me about his love for the grateful dead during the periode Jerry Garcia died. I've spend countless hours on the internet to find whatever i could find about the Grateful Dead. I did allot of reading and I listen almost every day on archive.org for some spectacular dead shows. I also lend some dvd's from the local library which i found amazing. In the meantime I've got all of dick's picks and the albums the dead brought out as well as my dvd collection where I lend the guitar of my dead, playing (amateurish) along with the songs. Later I bought a keyboard to play with the video's from the dead as I came accross a video on youtube of Death don't have no mercy featering Brent Mydland who rocks the cradle good time! There rarely goes a day by I don't listen to the dead. I guess i'm addicted. A year and a half i came across the dark star orchestra who'm performed at jaminthedam. I've bought tickets for my parents and my new girlfriend (who'm i have a child now with) also went along. I was extremely exited and drank myself a headake during the show (in combination of my singing along). It was the night of my life! Till i heard about the dead coming back together as well as performing for Barrack Obama's inaugural ball. I'm so excited to life these day's knowing that even dough I could never see Jerry anymore I could get to see the dead. So the burning question lies with: When o when will or can the Grateful Dead please perform in the Netherlands or do a europe tour? I really feel myself obligated to have seen them live while they life! I could'nt bare the thought that they were still alive and I have never seen them, but I did see DSO perform. It would give me a hart attack if i never get to see the dead in Holland. Please respond if somebody knows if they're gonna perform in Europe or how I can contact the dead to ask them this! Maybe the webdesigner could make a poll how much people would like to see the dead perform in Europe? Please take this seriously and get back to me! Our first show!We were really lucky to obtain tickets. I logged on the moment the site opened and at the same moment the site went down due to an overload of requests. Then I realized how immensely popular these guys still are. Not the several hundred people that are visible on Dead Net but many thousands more. We booked tickets for the Chicago 5/5 show. My brother lives in Chicago so we could combine a family visit with a Dead show. Two worlds apart! We went early and strolled around on the parking lot. This was what we always wished that we could be part of. So many friendly people. All the different tie dye shirts. The mounting anticipation as the show got nearer. We spoke to many beautiful people. They all reacted surprised as they heard that we came from Holland to attend the show. See my photo's in the section Tour Images. Everybody told us that the shows were awesome and that the band got better with every show. We had good seats in the balcony where we could see over the entire crowd. The downside was that we could not see the performers very well. I missed big screens. The sound was loud and clear but for the voices. Where we sat the words could not be understood. The entire show was terrific. There was a good light show. The set list was great. The audience was fantastic. Everybody was dancing. They sang along with most songs so that the singer sometimes sang close harmony with the audience. They cheered the band as the jams were developing. Great music. When we left the stadium we had attended a wonderful concert. I have ordered the downloads of this show so that we can hear it again and again. We did not expect this show to be like the ones that we have on cd's and dvd's. The band is just not the same. We went for the audience experience. This time we were part of that. For us this was a dream come true. Ship of Fools

The strand is on this site! Follow the links: Shows and lyrics and then venues by location... you see a whole host of locations: US, UK, Netherlands, France, Jamaica... etc.. not sure how good this thing works.. even when you select venues in the US, you get the whole host of Alaska, Illinois, etc... but when selecting them, they go..uh... nowhere.. again... so, either someone has set this up with an intention of populating (and hasn't) or it's just a mistake... have a look.. just to prove i'm not going crazy.

maybe this is just some form of tally which suggests the number of venues that are possible for the dead to play - but i do sincerely doubt that there are only 9 venues in the UK where they could play (and one is not even the NEC). It would be great if they did play here.. last time i saw them was Chicago 92 or 93... of course that was pre-Jerry demise... wierdly enough, i just stumbled across a copy of High Times that i bought which featured Jerry following the news... oh the memories...

hmmm A Euro tour would be most cool. I agree with Bob, no way they would do 11 shows in the UK. but, an 11 show Euro tour... (licking my lips) London, Wembley, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Frankfort, Hamburg, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Prague.... at this stage in their lives, i think it is a matter of "where do we want to go and play" type of thinking for the band. I think the only rumours of a Europe tour I've heard recently, were the ones I started a few years back. here's hoping!!! ( -; peace.

Just the thought of those locations! what a hoot to see the Dead in some of the greatest cities in Europe. I can just picture it: headed off for a week's holiday in Barcelona - my wife's favourite european city.. like, ever.. ok, that and Geneva.. and i quite like Prague, and Amersterdam for that matter, but i digress... How cool would it be to take a great holiday, in a great city and see the the Dead play??!! I think someone in the Dead promotional/booking department needs to remind them that there's a whole world out there and they could have a great time playing a more "intimate" gig in some really great cities! as with everyone.. living in hope... be good

Yeah, I'm sure if there were any promoter types around who could find out exactly how the band would settle regarding revenue for doing, say eleven, shows on a European tour. Then it's just a matter of booking the right venues in the time they can tour. Obviously a lot of Americans would come over. I'd expect a decent interest here from Europeans also. It would definitely be financially viable. Who can find out what the bands requirements would be? Surely they'd be up for the tour of a lifetime, especially as there's the chance these days to hit up Eastern Europe. I'd certainly suggest Prague, Budapest, Gdansk and Tallinn as well as the obvious Western European spots. J ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Are you kind?"

Hi all We're holding our third annual Summer of Love party in July in Hawkhurst in Kent, UK, with a great line-up. As well as the fantastic GD cover band Deadicace, we've got a few special people as it's the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, including Barry "the Fish" Melton" of Country Joe and the Fish, and Robin Williamson of the Incredible String Band (both of whom played at the original Woodstock). And we've got a Santana cover band to. Check out the details on our Summer of Love party website (www.solparty.org.uk). And you can email me on chris@live-dead.co.uk. It's the best Deadhead party this side of the Atlantic (and maybe even both sides). Chris Jones
