I used to be a "joe six-pack" then I became a "Joe 'fifth of John Daniels' in my back pocket" then I became a "Joe cheap burgandy red wine in a 3 quart box" finally, I reached my own personal NIRVANA by being a "Joe Cheese Whiz" living on the straight and narrow these days... people change. trouble is, I suppose, in some cases, no matter how clearly an opinion is presented, and no matter how carefully the 'directions' are written on the label, some people will always fuck it up or mis-understand the 'real' purpose of a "product" anyway, FREEDOM OF SPEECH, for everyone, and if it is your Cheese Whiz, and your clothes, do with it what you will, but please keep in mind, we all share this washing machine. doesn't it say on a box of Q-tips, do not insert into your ear? what the fuck?? even the obvious can remain unclear. peace.

The Republicans had their chance and what do we get - 4,000 American's killed in Iraq for George JR and his big lies and future generations will be paying for it. McCain is still in a Vietnam War type mentality. He thinks that war could have been won and this one too. Sinking more American lives and money into death for nothing. Thank you for your service now go off and die for us. Something some of us have a major problem with. Those of us who aren’t fortunate sons see our relatives and friends end up maimed, psychologically damaged and dead for the lies of the rich Bush and McCain types of this country. Plus all the innocent Iraqis. And this is pro-life? I think a woman should not be forced by a patriarchal system to carry through with an unwanted pregnancy. That early in the pregnancy she should be given a choice. You and I obviously disagree on when an independent life begins. It is a difficult choice, I leave it up to the individual woman to decide, you don't, you feel that you have the answer for her. Sarah Palin strong, sure, maybe like an ox barging its way through a kitchen. Independent, sure, but being president is about working with others and reaching agreement. I don't think she has these skills. A wink doesn't do it in the realm of world politics. She is not dealing with Joe six pack here. Billy and Is420 I couldn't agree with you more! Amen! The only reason I am even stating on these threads who it is I support, is because Phil and Bobby (and Bruce, and Neil), have decided to get political. So once that starts, it gets polarizing. That is why I am horrified that Phil and Bobby have twice now publicly designed fundraiser shows for Obama. I think it stinks. I never used to talk politics to anyone. I would just sit there, drink a beer, and have fun, keeping my political thoughts to myself. But now, these guys are out there stirring up a hornet's nest. They should really think about what they are doing. But then, maybe they now have enough money not to give a crap. I also can't help but wonder why Phil, a guy who went through hell with his liver transplant, is now supporting an Anti-Life candidate like Obama. It blows me away. Greg SC

I am totally agree with keeping music separate from politics. But since we have opened the can of worms, here are some things to think about. Obama: Occidental College - Two years. Columbia University - B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations. Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude & Biden: University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science. Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.) vs. McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 out of 899 (meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class) Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism Palin created a highway on an island across from Juno to link the mainland with an airport. When it was finished she vetoed the bridge to the mainland, wasting 17 million dollars. Before she was governor she was mayor of a town of 5000. She has never been out of the country. McCain only became a P.O.W. by being one of the worst naval pilots ever. The first time he was shot down he was trying to steal a plane to fly to Pennsylvania to see his girl friend. There is just about as much dirt on Obama. He did associate with terrorists, when he was six. In his books, Obama admits attending "socialist conferences" and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a "hard-core academic Marxist," which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes. Anyway, I don't think either candidate is totally honest or even a good American. I do believe in knowing the truth. You can find any of this via Google search engine. Make sure to triple cross reference, since there is a lot of dirt being thrown. STAY AWARE!!!!

At the moment she is playing catch up, but in the end, she has real substance, and will be light years ahead of any party-line politician like Obama. So let me get this straight...the VINDICTIVE questions like "What newspapers do you read?" and "How does Alaska's close proximity to Russia give you foreign policy credentials?" were GOTCHA questions? Unfair journalism??? SHARP??? Put down the crackpipe and slowly walk away. Medic? Over here in SC... Dude...she has yet to be able to sit down and answer ANY question with authority. TWO DAYS AGO, she was questioned on the export of Alaskan oil to China. I'm sure you've read one of many articles on this - here's a quick reference. It's an AP article - all sources verified: http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-politics/20081010/Palin.Oil.Export… Now, PLEASE stop pretending this woman is "on the ball". She came out swinging and energized her party to the point where I was getting nervous. Then the real Sarah Palin came through. She WILL make a good politician ONE DAY. She's not ready for prime time, bro. Obama - wet noodle? You mean the man who's rallied over 20 MILLION people, including THOUSANDS of hard-core conservatives (like 6 seperate households on my own street?!!) to back him? Yeah, wet noodle....classic. Read his plan. Read McCain's plan. One is filled with vision and common sense and shows how everything is paid for. The other does nothing but say how he thinks his opponent will bring this country to "the brink of disaster" (apparently worse than we already are). I'll let you guess which plan belongs to whom. They are both available on their respective websites for public download. I have no problem with ANYBODY stepping forward and presenting who they are or aren't supporting. They...just like you SC have everyright to to show support for one candidate or another. You don't have to agree with them, and if it's more than you can stomach, then by all means it's up to you to decide if you even wanna support the person that's doing the supporting. Pretty novel idea I know, but it's "your" choice to decide what to do with what you see and hear. Ever since the "Rock to Vote" campains started, it has grown into people from all aspects of life on BOTH sides of the party lines showing their support of a certain candidate. Since there seems to be people (and although very sad and pathetic) that can't decide for themselves what's best for them, You now have people trying to inform others on what they think is best. I may be totally misunderstanding you and the point your trying to make here, but in a way, your doin pretty much the same thing on this board as Phil, Bobby, Bruce, and Neil are doin in concert. You've been pretty vocal on who you support, and that's your right I guess...as far as Palin...I can't stomach her, and find the little winks and smiles at the camera repulsive. She's not your "average" joe...She's nothing like me, or anyone else I know....ya know..."Your Six Pack Joes". or whatever it is she calls them. But hey, If there is any beauty in Politics at all, and I don't think there is...It's that you have the right to your own opinions, and you have the right to voice them, and get this....YOU have the right to vote! What ever your convictions are that helps you decide what you think is best, you get to use them. Get what I'm sayin'....The 4 above metioned individuals, that you are so put off by right now, becouse of the stances they've decided to take...Right or Wrong...It's their choice my friend. That's why, me personally, hate discussing politics. It tends to lead to angry and hurt feelings most of the time. People can be so compassionate about their beliefs, they tend to forget, that the people their discussing it with, are just as compassionate. Oh well....I better quit rambling here...I tend not to make alot of sense most of the time,..lol.. So sorry if I've carried on. Just my 2 cents.

Hal R I think the Neil Young, Bruce, and Phil were from another thread... But since you brought it up, let me clear it up. I think music should be kept seperate from politics. Even Bob Dylan never named names, he would just get people thinking about political themes... What I see coming from Phil, Bobby, Bruce, and Neil Young these days is a bunch of telling people WHO to vote for, and being quite blatant about it. And, yes, it will cause their musical careers to FADE AWAY. I went to see Phil in Charlotte NC the other day, and the Phil show was blown out of the water by the Allman Brothers Band (who opened for them!). Phil needs to spend more time gettting his band sharp, getting good cameramen, and getting good mixing board techs, and possibly picking up one more guitarist, rather than going down the depressive road of politics -- especially for that wet noodle, Barack Obama. That was my point. And Sarah Palin is a sharp cookie ... but she became victim of a vindictive interview, and a editing designed to rip her to pieces. that Obama getting elected is more or less like the Berlin Wall coming down in terms of a classic photo op triumph over the forces of darkness. However, as we have seen, the fall of the Wall didn't bring paradise to Germany and it's not going to miraculously make our problems go away either. What it might do is give us a better shot at fixing them, and certainly of getting our own lives back free of surveillance, intimidation, and infringement of our liberties.

But read: http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/taxes/Factsheet_Tax_Plan_FINAL.pdf My guess is things won't be exact, but we should all hold EVERY politician accountable. Finally - the whole socialism thing...get the @#(*$& over it. The lousy (but necessary) bailout that passed is more socialist than any program Obama wants to start. Actually, I am going to cautiously, and I mean cautiously, sit back and watch to see what this guy is up to. Will he surprise me and be a centrist leader? Well, he might, but my gut tells me the weird stuff will begin as soon as it looks like we are beginning to come out of this economy. Until the economy begins to perk, though, I think he will be careful not to cause it to worsen. Because now it is his, and his alone. The buck stops with the president. We found that out with Bush. In other words, the Dems had the house and senate the last 2 years, but all we kept hearing was "eight years of Bush," when in reality it was 6 years of Repubs, 2 years of Dems. So from this point on I do not want to hear any nonsense about George Bush, when it is Obama, and only Obama. Remember the Buck stops with the guy on top. So, how has Obama done the last two days? Well he drove the stock market down 10% for starters; it is, however, up a little today. In the long run we will see how businesses like it with this guy at the top. Greg SC

"Well he drove the stock market down 10% for starters".... Yeah, he marched right in there and said, "STOP BUYING NOW!" The market fluctuations are a result of a whole lotta stuff, not just the choice of president. Come on. Just because Bush got blamed for a lot of stuff, don't go aimlessly swinging. The economy is in the crapper LARGELY because of the Iraq War spenditure - as well as all the crap that the lovely Mr. Greenspan ol' Slick Willie left lingering around and W and his crew neglected to repair. It's a combined effort. I think things JUST MAY turn around when we stop spending 23gazillion dollars a minute in Iraq. Remember the Current Occupant has 73 more days to spend in Washington, D.C. After President-elect Obama moves into the White House, the Texas Tumblweed can return to lassoing armadillos. Meanwhile, take advantage of good buying opportunities in the market: Sirius, GE, Ford, GM, PG. hey Pap the 23 gazillion keeps me in beans and bullets, ha ha. yea this war deal is getting a little long I've been directly involved since 01.What year is it? Anyway seems like the markets all over the world are taken a dump, guess there all related. I think the Iraq Afghan spenditure is around 420 gazillion. And don't really think the people of these nations give a shit they suck off us as much as they can. Was reading some stuff in Stars and Stripes about how much the military, all brances spends on fuel to keep this deal going. i can't remember the exact numbers but it was in the bazillions, in a country with huge oil reserves who don't fund any of their own stuff. Thought wars would boost an economy, think that it did for awhile but now were at a stablization period in Iraq and is costing us a shit load and the people were helping don't chip in or give a flying f. We'll all see in a year or so when Iraq takes full control of there country it will turn back to a dictatorship and remain the asshole of the world. Pappy, Just wanted to give you a taste of the silliness we've heard from Obama during this past year. You'd think that George Bush ran the House, Senate, and Oval Office the way he was blamed for everything. But hey, I guess the buck stops with the guy on top. So since we heard how George Bush caused the stock market to crash, then we can assume that the market balked at the Obama win. Hey, fair is fair. Greg SC

I happen to love all that social stuff. I go to the church of the public library. I love social programs (Public Health has been there for me), public parks and beaches. I love these public roads I drive around on and public buildings - museums, aquariums, the public squares. Kids need public places to grow. It's one world now. And it has been since airtravel and tv blew open those doors. I think a lot of people all over the world think we need a new take on things. Let's get eachother's basic needs met. for the first time since 1964. We are one of the two states (Maine is the other) that will split their electoral college votes. Nebraskas's split is based on who wins in each of NE's 3 congressional districts. But our votes did count on the electoral college distribution, even though McCain took the state. Maine and Nebraska. I don't know how Maine does it. In Nebr the winner of the total popular vote gets 2 of the 5 electoral votes right away. Then the rest of those votes are awarded by who wins in each of our 3 congressional districts. Those 3 discricts are Lincoln (and surrounding area), Omaha (and surrounding area), and then the rest of rural Nebraka. So Obama won the Omaha area so he got 1 electoral college vote, and he was ahead in the Lincoln area but didn't prevail so McCain got 1 electoral vote, and then rural NE was overwhelminly McCain, so he then he got another vote. Nebraska's electoral vote total is McCain 4 and Obama 1. We almost carried the day in Lincoln for Obama and that would have been another vote, but we didn't quite make it. I am opposed to the electoral college but I believe that if the votes are split, then the process gets this republic a little closer to a democracy. But not close enough for me. Abolish the electoral college and popular vote should win the Presidency. Nebraska lesson and pontificating complete (for now). ;o} The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

As most of you know, Jim Martin is in a smear fest runoff election down here in Georgia. If Obama voters truly want change, we need to vote for Jim Martin for US Senate to give Barack the tools he needs to get things done. The GOP is pouring everthing they have into the state because they are scared to death that we will turn Georgia blue again. In fact McCain himself was in town last Thursday campaigning with Chambliss. I am attending the Bill Clinton/ Jim Martin event at Clark Atlanta University tomorrow. I am worried that after 6 years of Saxby Chambliss voting with W 90% of the time, voting against children's health care, wasting time making English the State's official language, etc, etc, we are going to have a tough time getting out the vote for a runoff. Any possitive vibes are apprectiated. http://www.martinforsenate.com/ Peace - David

Can I Be A Deadhead and Still Think Big Government is Bad? I was thinking back to the not-so halcyon days of my youth. I don't remember my older hippy friends being pro-government. It was more a movement of mutual support, helping each other in small communes and getting back to a less-is-more mentality (if we ever really 'had' that). Now that I'm a hard working special education teacher, can I still be a Deadhead and not necessarily believe in and trust the Democratic party or the Obama presidency until I see actual decisions made, and acknowlegement of the responsibility for the good and bad results? I find it a bit hard to fathom that folks who dance to the lyrics "spinning a set the stars through which the tattered tales of axis roll about the waxen wind of never set to motion in the unbecoming round about the reason hardly matters nor the wise through which the stars were set in spin" find my simple little post too obtuse to interpret in light of emerging events on a thread about politricks. I apologize for being too obtuse. Let me rephrase it - Øbama, The Øne chosen by (I'm guesstimating) more than 95% of the posters on this thread, is turning out to be a crooked dealer, surrounded by crooked dealers, whose crookedness was ignored and even denied by an obsequious press. They will now be given carte blanche to dismantle the foundations of this nation - economic foundations, spiritual foundations, and cultural foundations - the only nation on earth that could provide the economic, spiritual and cultural bubble required to spawn The Grateful Dead. I am sorry that the remaining members of the Grateful Dead saw fit to get involved. Is that clearer? Again, I apologize for being obtuse. Politics is a dirty business; not a nice, kind or positive business. If the reality of that is too hard too handle, than this web site may not have been the place to introduce a realm that engenders characters like Øbama and McCain. As the layers of the Øbama Ønion are peeled away, we may all be just a wee bit sorry The Boys played a fundraiser for The Øne. that I agree with Pajak's dire assessment but I certainly do respect his right to voice it. The velocity and ferocity of Obama's PR campaign to document non-association with Mr. Soon-To-Be Ex-Governor of Illinois is a bit disquieting, though. Besides, is there anyone left alive who's surprised that political appointments from Chicago are for sale to the highest bidder? Hello? Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

if brain-washing is the same as brain-dry cleaning? ' course, that may involve far too many (or not enough) chemicals..........and why is it that when people have opinions that vary from the opinions of others, they are assumed to be brain-washed?......could be the "dry cleaning" thing..or......uh........ok, ok....i'll stop

and that is that we're gonna be sorry. But do not agree that will be due to Obama. Think the economy in 2009 is going to be worse, and not better-and has nothing to do with Obama just yet.********************************** Don't part with your illusions. Why don't you spit out what you are insinuating? If you really have a point to prove tell us what it is. You are posting vagueness and innuendo because whatever your accusations are, (which we don't even know) apppear to have no factual basis at this time to back them up. This is an old propaganda trick. Create unrest, uneasiness, discontent, distrust without facts to back what you say. I call your bluff. Prove it. By the way what is the problem with the O on your computer? If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake
