Everyone stops the bullshit about this that the other ones and remember what's it about. The Music! Does anyone remember the music? The way it made you feel the first time you heard it? Maybe it was China Cat or Estimated Prophet? All of a sudden, out of nowhere, you need to get up and dance. And then, everybody's dancing. The music is what draws us in together. The music is what brings the band together. Not everyone gets the Dead. We get it. The music will never stop. I'm sure everyone has a song that they have enjoyed over the years with someone dear to them that is no longer with us. Be thankful that you get the chance to be here at this time to enjoy life with new people, new dreams and new hope. Hey that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. The stars were spinning dizzy, But the band kept us so busy We forgot about the time. "Oh if a man tried To take his time on earth And prove before he died What one man's life could be worth I wonder what would happen To this world."

I was on the ticketmaster sight at 10:00 when tickets went on sale. Tickets were sold out immediately for the MSG show. Ticketmaster then directed me to their sister site tickets now. The $100 tickets were now being sold for up to $3500. Ticket master sold all the tickets to themselves and now started charging obscene amounts. The cheapest available were 400 level tickets behind the stage and these were $180. This is BS. THE DEAD NEEDS TO STOP USING TICKET MASTER NOW.....there are other ways to sell tickets.

I just checked and was able to get tickets for Hartford -- nosebleeds, but in the door at least. BUT I don't understand what is going on with Albany, you get directed to a ticket reseller. This whole thing is pretty strange. I'd like to see the number of tickets ACTUALLY sold and/or COMPd for each venue after every available method (including going to the venue) has been available for 24 hours. I think that would be very revealing. For one thing, it would say how popular a draw The Dead still are and it would reveal how fans are being manipulated. I'm not faulting the band at all, I think they are as much victims as we seem to be. So c'mon, put the numbers out there so we can see! The pay was pathetic. It's a shame those boys couldn't be more copascetic.

I hear your pain. Not sure what went down but I am confident it has nothing to do with the band. Perhaps another scam in Corporate America? I bought tickets to a few shows and thought I'd check out another venue sold through Ticketmaster. Tickets had gone on sale 20 minutes earlier. When I tried to purchase I was told the floor was sold out, then tried for anything, and again sold out, but their "partner" Ticket something (probably the Ticket Now you mentioned, but I do not recall) did have tickets priced from $150-$717. They were directly on the Ticketmaster site. I was disenchanted, so I figured 2 shows will be enough. I don't mind paying face value, and their little surcharges, but this was such a turn off that I stopped looking for any other shows. I'm going back to the good old fashioned mail order next time. Glad you got tic's. Have a great show.

Ticket Rant: What is the Deal & Why did it go Down?
You may refer to this as the TICKET RANT!! Part I First off, I am not ever going to criticize the BAND. I've been Deadicated since 1966 and my first show was seen in 1972 (Fab Fox in STL). The Dead gets better, and better, and better every tour, because of where they came from and who they have associated themselves with. And, I mean no disrespect to JERRY because he is my idol and a true hero. A tour would be BETTER with him, and we do not forget. I will not bitch about paying $50.00 or $100.00 or a little more for a great ticket to see the Dead. Why, because they are worth it and it is tremendously expensive to do a tour. We don't mind paying sports heroes and movie stars outrageous money for far inferior talents, to do things that do not compare to the rigors of a tour like the one we are all looking forward to. Music is hard work dedication and love and the trip that these artists, and they truly are artists, will take us on is truly a surreal experience. ( by the way professional athletes are super humans but they are not generaly artist or musicians ) Part II - The Rant I am going from near STL to the Chicago show because it is the only one close enough to be affordable. Posted ticket prices for this show were $95 - $50. Tickets were to be on sale at noon Friday, January 23. I set aside time from work to be available because, my probably and now a learned mistaken understanding was that on line, was the only way to purchase tickets, after the pre-sale and mail- in options went by the by. I preregistered this week with Ticketmaster, I thought, so that I would hopefully get a ticket to see my favorite BAND. My best friend and I hoping to relive the last Chicago show I can remember with the BAND, at the same venue under "The Other Ones" moniker. Well, I go to the website only to find that the ticket sale is 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. REGROUP. So I get up early on a Saturday to prepare for what I am sure is going to be a long day. I want to get tickets like everyone else in a bad way. I have an email that commemorates my prereg with what I thought was Ticketmaster. So I begin the journey get logged in with deadnet find out that I am not preregistered with ticketmaster. I reregister and find that ther are no tickets for sale on Ticketmaster site. What's going on? Did they cancel something, move back the sale stagger the sale, was it sold out in two seconds WTF????????? I go to my email, click this and that, I was preregistered not with Ticketmaster, but with Tickets Now ( a Ticketmaster Co. ) They have tickets but not for $50.00 or $95.00, they are scalping, I assume, the tickets that were confirmed by mail order, presale or who the F...knows. I won't pay much more than face for any event because you can get into Wrigley Field, Busch, Fox, Pageant, anywhere if you know what you are doing. I do NOT need a miracle, I want to pay value for value, NO PROBLEM. But this was sick and I do not blame it on the BAND. It is unmitigated greed from the people who purchased tickets early so they can go for free, Ticketmaster, or the venues themselves. (they are real dead heads) Capitalism is the WHEEL and we are the hamsters, So God Bless the Conspiracy!!!!!!!! I wasted numerous hours of time and even requested an alert from Ticket master as to when the tickets would go on sale still waiting, eight hours later. Well I did try to call Ticketmaster BUSY. Then I called a local (Belleville Il) Ticketmaster to find that they had tickets. They had tickets, but by this time only those going for $50.00. Ones you could buy from Tickets Now for at least twice face ++++++++ 100.00 tickets now going for $300, $400, $900. Why wasn't Ticketmaster selling tickets on line????? Why didn't Ticketmaster let people know that they could just go to a vendor and get tickets rather than putting a message on line that they had no tickets on-sale for the show. I'm knowing and believing the the BAND did not have anything to do with this ripoff> And, I was able to get a good ticket but not without having to go to Consider it Dan to get presale tickets that were not sold out. Doing this did force us to spend xtra money but value considered it was a good deal. Done ranting Feedback and hope someone in authority with the BAND gets with it!!!

As a a life long Pennsylvania resident, it's bitter sweet seeing The Dead play the Spectrum. Not sure how many people know this, but the Spectrum is being demolished before the year is out. And The Dead hold the record for number of shows at the Spectrum. So this run will be really special for me. That old Spectrum has so many memories and it'll be sad to see it go, but no better way to say goodbye than at a Dead show. http://www.rememberthespectrum.com/ Call it local knowledge, gained a long time ago.

I call Promised Land as the opening song of the first show in NC. last Dead tour in 2004, tix prices were something like 70$ I do not remember if that was before or after the bullshit Ticket Price Blaster 'convenience' charge or will call pick up bull shit extra charges. Phil and Ratdog for NYE 2008 were 65$ but Dec. 30th was only 45$ BEFORE the bullshit sur-charges. any link for that 5/9 ticketmaster thing, please?

The prices listed above are in line with what other bands are charging, but we were kinda hoping for something affordable. Looks like obly one show for me.

I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I am a father of 3 and I work 60+ hours a week. After seeing the magic happen at Penn State, I am doing EVERYTHING I can to make 5 shows happen. If you want it, you gotta go get it. I am hitting GREENSBORO (8+ hours drive), MSG (either 7 hours drive, or I may have to FLY to get there), BOTH Philly shows (6 hours drive) and haven't decided between Chicago (would have to FLY) or Buffalo (4+ hours drive). I am not "loaded". I know I don't have the cash so readily available. But I am going to do everything I can to make it happen. This is IT, in my opinion. I cannot imagine these guys doing another tour of this magnitude after this one. So, (in the immortal words of Badfinger) if you want it - here it is, come and get it, make your mind up fast - you'd better hurry 'cause it's going fast. If you think about it the uncertainty of it all is what made touring with the Grateful Dead such a thrill. Obviously we are all older now and probably (hopefully) better off than we were 20 years ago and with that I think comes the sense that uncertainty makes us uneasy. It's kind of too bad you know because I'll never forget the adventure of loading into a junker automobile with little to no money, gas, food and tickets (fully aware the shows you were driving to were sold out). We would drive 1200 miles to Cali, sleep in the car and somehow some way make it into at least a few shows and more amazingly make it 1200 miles back home (one year our car was in such bad shape we had to drive 25 mph the whole way home). I'll never forget those times and those memories are what make the Dead all the more special. More than just a band. Granted I only got a few shows in before Jerry died, but those times will be with me forever. Being 17 and driving out to Vegas with no money, no hotel reservations, no responsibility and a crap load of beer to sell in the parking lot. Sleeping in the car with old friends, new friendss, then driving 6 hours home to San Diego after the Sunday show - all in time to make it to school Monday morning. I wish I had more years to follow the boys, but I'm grateful for the shows I was able to make and will always be thankful it was in time to see Jerry. I love hearing all the tour stories from HEads older than I am, always puts a smile on my face! Once again, I can't wait for May!!!

Those Vegas show were the bomb!! I was there in 91, 93 and 94 (not sure why I missed 92) and each time we had no hotel and we pretty much didn't sleep - LSD works good for that! But anyways one night we had to sleep so we snuck into the pool area at the Frontier and slept on the pool lounge chairs, woke up the next day about 9am to find the entire pool and every chair occupied by the hotel guests - people with their families, little kids, the works. We had to look like total bums laying there asleep in all our clothes! I still can't believe we didn't get arrested. Not to mention my buddy trying to bet his tickets at the blackjack table. Oh man! Thanks for jogging my memory of those Vegas shows! "Everybody's braggin' and drinking that wine, I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines. I made it to 92, my first show, only had tickets for Sat and was miracled in on Fri and Sunday. Slept (not really ;o) in the back of my 83 Honda civic behind some random strip mall. It was awesome, first time I had been to anything like that before and I fell in love. I've often said this before, but even though I was fairly young, I just felt at home in the parking lot, like big ole arms opening up and hugging me. Silly I know, but that's just the way it made me feel. I was back the following year (93) for a bitchen show, I can still remember the thunder and lightening cracking while Bobby was singing Looks Like Rain. Get chills thinking about it! p.s. I love your reference to Loser...one of my all time fav's!

Not a silly statement at all, I totally relate to what you say. I get chills walking down this memory lane! It is fun reminiscing! I also remember it being almost unbearably hot!! Everyone crowding under those fountains. That reminds me - we saw Jerry Seinfeld at one of those shows. The coolest thing about all of this - I have been in touch with some of my longtime touring friends from around the country and we are trying to reunite for some of these shows. Awesome! And always at least 100 degrees or hotter lol! I remember the first year I got really sunburned, although I didn't feel it until I got home. But yes they were extremely hot, but when that tropical rain came in 93, it was awesome! And my little honda had an engine problem so I had to drive home with the heater on so that my engine wouldn't overheat...Good times, good people!

All life's riddles will be answered, as long as you feel the Vibe. Believe in it. Let it nurture you. Let it it flow. Let it grow. It gives you the strength, It gives you courage. Take its energy and turn it into a positive force. It will guide you to where you want to be. Forget about your trials and tribulations. I was at a Dead show in Paris 1990 at the Zenith Theatre. General admission. It is the size of a high school gym with and open floor and bleachers. I had money, a place to crash and tix to the sold out shows. But what was truly amazing was right before the show started, the French could not believe that these people traveled all the way to Paris without a ticket. So instead of turning them away, all the Dead heads outside were able to buy tickets and their was much rejoicing. True story( who says the French suck.) This the Vibe. Believe in it. Peace and Love. So the kids they dance and shake their bones. "Oh if a man tried To take his time on earth And prove before he died What one man's life could be worth I wonder what would happen To this world."

I'm not so sure. In the most recent Relix, there are interviews Phil, Bobby, Billy, and Mickey. I can't remember if it was Bobby or Phil, but one of them said that they'd likely try to do a summer tour in 2010 if the spring tour goes well. He was explicit in saying "not this summer, though." So if everyone stays healthy, they have apparently already at least talked about 2010 possibilities.

The lack of West Coast shows on the upcoming tour makes me think a two part Summer Tour is coming. I'm surprised there is only one show at MSG (although Nassau is an adjacent date). I miss living in upstate N.Y. right now, as I'm stuck in Houston with the northeast blues again. Anyway, anyone have rumors about how mail order or internet sales are going to work? Thanks! Andy
