"Well it sounded so sweet. I had to take me a chance,I rose out of me seat, Lord I had to dance, Started moving my feet, and clapping my hands." Going 'round and 'round... The Grateful Dead were a dance band. The Music man! Well said.

Everyone stops the bullshit about this that the other ones and remember what's it about. The Music! Does anyone remember the music? The way it made you feel the first time you heard it? Maybe it was China Cat or Estimated Prophet? All of a sudden, out of nowhere, you need to get up and dance. And then, everybody's dancing. The music is what draws us in together. The music is what brings the band together. Not everyone gets the Dead. We get it. The music will never stop. I'm sure everyone has a song that they have enjoyed over the years with someone dear to them that is no longer with us. Be thankful that you get the chance to be here at this time to enjoy life with new people, new dreams and new hope. Hey that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. The stars were spinning dizzy, But the band kept us so busy We forgot about the time. "Oh if a man tried To take his time on earth And prove before he died What one man's life could be worth I wonder what would happen To this world."

I was on the ticketmaster sight at 10:00 when tickets went on sale. Tickets were sold out immediately for the MSG show. Ticketmaster then directed me to their sister site tickets now. The $100 tickets were now being sold for up to $3500. Ticket master sold all the tickets to themselves and now started charging obscene amounts. The cheapest available were 400 level tickets behind the stage and these were $180. This is BS. THE DEAD NEEDS TO STOP USING TICKET MASTER NOW.....there are other ways to sell tickets.

I just checked and was able to get tickets for Hartford -- nosebleeds, but in the door at least. BUT I don't understand what is going on with Albany, you get directed to a ticket reseller. This whole thing is pretty strange. I'd like to see the number of tickets ACTUALLY sold and/or COMPd for each venue after every available method (including going to the venue) has been available for 24 hours. I think that would be very revealing. For one thing, it would say how popular a draw The Dead still are and it would reveal how fans are being manipulated. I'm not faulting the band at all, I think they are as much victims as we seem to be. So c'mon, put the numbers out there so we can see! The pay was pathetic. It's a shame those boys couldn't be more copascetic.

I hear your pain. Not sure what went down but I am confident it has nothing to do with the band. Perhaps another scam in Corporate America? I bought tickets to a few shows and thought I'd check out another venue sold through Ticketmaster. Tickets had gone on sale 20 minutes earlier. When I tried to purchase I was told the floor was sold out, then tried for anything, and again sold out, but their "partner" Ticket something (probably the Ticket Now you mentioned, but I do not recall) did have tickets priced from $150-$717. They were directly on the Ticketmaster site. I was disenchanted, so I figured 2 shows will be enough. I don't mind paying face value, and their little surcharges, but this was such a turn off that I stopped looking for any other shows. I'm going back to the good old fashioned mail order next time. Glad you got tic's. Have a great show.

Ticket Rant: What is the Deal & Why did it go Down?
You may refer to this as the TICKET RANT!! Part I First off, I am not ever going to criticize the BAND. I've been Deadicated since 1966 and my first show was seen in 1972 (Fab Fox in STL). The Dead gets better, and better, and better every tour, because of where they came from and who they have associated themselves with. And, I mean no disrespect to JERRY because he is my idol and a true hero. A tour would be BETTER with him, and we do not forget. I will not bitch about paying $50.00 or $100.00 or a little more for a great ticket to see the Dead. Why, because they are worth it and it is tremendously expensive to do a tour. We don't mind paying sports heroes and movie stars outrageous money for far inferior talents, to do things that do not compare to the rigors of a tour like the one we are all looking forward to. Music is hard work dedication and love and the trip that these artists, and they truly are artists, will take us on is truly a surreal experience. ( by the way professional athletes are super humans but they are not generaly artist or musicians ) Part II - The Rant I am going from near STL to the Chicago show because it is the only one close enough to be affordable. Posted ticket prices for this show were $95 - $50. Tickets were to be on sale at noon Friday, January 23. I set aside time from work to be available because, my probably and now a learned mistaken understanding was that on line, was the only way to purchase tickets, after the pre-sale and mail- in options went by the by. I preregistered this week with Ticketmaster, I thought, so that I would hopefully get a ticket to see my favorite BAND. My best friend and I hoping to relive the last Chicago show I can remember with the BAND, at the same venue under "The Other Ones" moniker. Well, I go to the website only to find that the ticket sale is 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. REGROUP. So I get up early on a Saturday to prepare for what I am sure is going to be a long day. I want to get tickets like everyone else in a bad way. I have an email that commemorates my prereg with what I thought was Ticketmaster. So I begin the journey get logged in with deadnet find out that I am not preregistered with ticketmaster. I reregister and find that ther are no tickets for sale on Ticketmaster site. What's going on? Did they cancel something, move back the sale stagger the sale, was it sold out in two seconds WTF????????? I go to my email, click this and that, I was preregistered not with Ticketmaster, but with Tickets Now ( a Ticketmaster Co. ) They have tickets but not for $50.00 or $95.00, they are scalping, I assume, the tickets that were confirmed by mail order, presale or who the F...knows. I won't pay much more than face for any event because you can get into Wrigley Field, Busch, Fox, Pageant, anywhere if you know what you are doing. I do NOT need a miracle, I want to pay value for value, NO PROBLEM. But this was sick and I do not blame it on the BAND. It is unmitigated greed from the people who purchased tickets early so they can go for free, Ticketmaster, or the venues themselves. (they are real dead heads) Capitalism is the WHEEL and we are the hamsters, So God Bless the Conspiracy!!!!!!!! I wasted numerous hours of time and even requested an alert from Ticket master as to when the tickets would go on sale still waiting, eight hours later. Well I did try to call Ticketmaster BUSY. Then I called a local (Belleville Il) Ticketmaster to find that they had tickets. They had tickets, but by this time only those going for $50.00. Ones you could buy from Tickets Now for at least twice face ++++++++ 100.00 tickets now going for $300, $400, $900. Why wasn't Ticketmaster selling tickets on line????? Why didn't Ticketmaster let people know that they could just go to a vendor and get tickets rather than putting a message on line that they had no tickets on-sale for the show. I'm knowing and believing the the BAND did not have anything to do with this ripoff> And, I was able to get a good ticket but not without having to go to Consider it Dan to get presale tickets that were not sold out. Doing this did force us to spend xtra money but value considered it was a good deal. Done ranting Feedback and hope someone in authority with the BAND gets with it!!!

As a a life long Pennsylvania resident, it's bitter sweet seeing The Dead play the Spectrum. Not sure how many people know this, but the Spectrum is being demolished before the year is out. And The Dead hold the record for number of shows at the Spectrum. So this run will be really special for me. That old Spectrum has so many memories and it'll be sad to see it go, but no better way to say goodbye than at a Dead show. http://www.rememberthespectrum.com/ Call it local knowledge, gained a long time ago.

QUOTE: As for Warren....give the guy a break....he sings like a bird, none of the other short list candidates.....have the vocal talent or range to pull it off." I dunno, I find his vocals to be too gritty and "classic blues rock" for my taste. Helluva player and great person, though. Hornsby knocks Garcia songs out of the park, vocally. Kimock plays much more melodically (then maddeningly disappears). Obviously, the short list must not have included John Kadlecik from Dark Star, but the Dead (and Phil) have always steered clear of being "too close to sounding like the original Dead". For whatever reason. It's not like Kadlecik is copping Jerry note for note. He rips on his own merit. But good luck to Warren, am sure he'll have a ball.

AllmansLevon - Hands down! Santana? No disrespect meant but he sold his soul long ago...Maybe he'd want to bring along Matchbook 20... Tdub - Completely agree that Hornsby is the man vocally, but we're talkin' guitars no? I wonder if they asked Bruce to join the tour, does anyone know? And also agree w/ the Plant / Krauss tour. Saw the Toronto show last year & easily rates in my top 5 shows ever, incredible...That needs to happen again, anyone who witnessed any of that tour knows why there may never be a Zep reunion w/ Plant...

76' - 78'donna is very nice i think, especially 77'. She found her voice and started singing unlike the early shows where i think she was trying to replicate Janis and it just didnt work out for her. Looks like rain, st. stephen , the music never stopped and sunrise are some of my fav donna songs. The music never stopped was never the same after donna left.

But if there was going to be an opener I say Yonder Mountain String Band - those boys rock. One show I saw they played Lady with a Fan it was so damn good, sent chills up my spine. I personally wish Steve Kimock was playing guitar but I suppose they need someone else who can pitch in on the singing. I've been avoiding this forum the past couple of days due to bad vibes when so buzzing. It's nice to see peace here again! As for an opening act, any or none will do. But I did notice when clicking on shows attended that opening acts refresh my attendance memory. Remember when the Violent Femmes opened in Ohio? Wow. It was so cool to see the few cross over Femme Heads dancing (was I or wasn't I?) . . .

Yes, we come!!As we live in Holland we have never attended a Grateful Dead show. Not around in 1972 nor later. The closest was watching the Rock Palast show live on TV. We often say how much we would like to have been part of the audience. This time we got the news in time. One show would be in Chicago where my brother lives. I decided to try to buy tickets and we could combine a family visit with a Dead show. We got our tickets. I still used the excuse that I could always sell them if we decided not to fly to the States. But when we got the final mail that was not an option anymore. This will be our chance to see the four remaining band members play together. The flight is booked already We are so thrilled!!! We will be in Chicago from Sunday May 3 until Saturday May 9. Are there any Dead Heads who would like to meet a couple (in their 50's) from Holland? I will check my mail. Everybody else: Have fun! I just realized that you are from the CO area..I saw a band a few years @ The Oregon Country Fair called Kannal and they blew me away.. As soon as I got home I ordered there CD and got on there mailing list..They are from the CO area and seem to play the majority of there shows in that area and I have never seen them come back up to the NorthWest....They are a great band also with Guatemalan roots..They have a tribal / jam sound to them..I justfound an article on them from The Washington Post Kan'Nal It's a rare CD that makes you want to rub sticks together in your back yard, yank off your clothing and howl at the moon while cavorting around a crackling bonfire. Kan'Nal's "Dreamwalker" has that effect. Started in Guatemala by Tzol, a transplanted vocalist-guitarist from Austin, and lead guitarist Tierro, a Canadian wanderer, this "shamanic rock" group has evolved into a seven-member performance-art beast based in Boulder, Colo. Kan'Nal's concerts are spectacular: Hypnotic percussion, skull-crushing guitar and buzzing didgeridoo create a spirit-channeling framework for Tzol's primal screams and sensual, son-of-Tarzan vocals. Kan'Nal's two female members -- mesmerizing hippie-chick dancers -- gyrate as if possessed, eyes rolled back, sometimes holding deer antlers to their craniums. I know you said you like discovering new music and this band is in your backyard..If anyone is interested they are at ...... kannal.org Sorry if posted in wrong place but just trying to keep the positive vibes flowing today with some good conversation

Did the Dead (Grateful) ever use opening acts for indoor shows? I remember opening acts at stadiums during Summer tour but never in arenas. I may have seen the most usual opening act for a dead/solo show. In Nov. 1988, I saw three Garcia shows at Ceaser's Tahoe, and they had a comedian open each show. I think that the guy had a flamingo shaped guitar. It was one of those shows where a maître d' picks where you sit, and you have to buy three drinks. The things that I did for JG.

We watch the Trucking Off To Buffalo DVD all the time (got to stop spilling wine in the laptop) and that has definitely become a favorite. Funny how it's a whole different song to me now than it was back when it was a hit. Maybe because I've got a touch of it myself now :)

Tony "Shoes" of Atlantic City is putting his faith, and his cash, in a Help Slipknot Franklins for the MSG show... though I'm getting even money, 2-1 odds, on a Shakedown Street for the 1st night at Philly. peace.
