...somewhere about bit torrents being stealing? Could somebody explain that issue to me? Also, if Live Downloads is paying to the band I would agree -- what does it matter where we purchase it? Same with the indie resellers, they are paying the freight. But, if I went into a store and saw the "Bonus Disc" for RT 3.3 being sold separately for 24.99 because you can't get it from the store anymore I would be more than a little displeased.

That bit torrents are "stealing" music. Also Live Downloads is a legit site. They wouldn't do something shady like convert mp3 to flac and sell them. What's matter where you purchase stuff as long as you can find it? "Lazy lightning you say you never strike the same place. I want a double dose in any case" ... "You got to hear my supplication. Got to hear me now. A little bolt of inspiration"

    Live Downloads FLAC or MP3
I read your comment dajokr and checked a copy of 'Rare Cuts and Oddities' I purchased as a FLAC from LiveDownLoads a while back. The rapid analysis tool in Traders Little Helper states with 100% confidence that every track does is not contaminated by MP3 (for each track the report states 'looks like CDDA with probability 100%') so all seems fine. There are more sophisticated checkers out there but they take a while to set up. Of course I cannot guarantee that any other DLs from that site are OK too. It does raise the question of why and how LiveDownloads are selling so ,much more material than Deadnet and if their operation is approved and where they have sourced the material. I would guess that if they were an illegal or fake operation GDP or Rhino would have taken action by now, but who knows? What would be preferable is that if all the releases could be downloaded from here...I have no idea why that is not happening. ANy news on that Marye? thanks

...did the Road Trips full-show download idea fizzle out? The links are still there for the V1N1 (79) full show downloads but they are dead. And those shows are not at live downloads, unfortunately. For those that have ordered the FLACs from live downloads, are you certain that the files are true lossless (i.e., from the original source) and not simply converted mp3s? The reason I ask is that I downloaded two of them and then compared the sound to the mp3s and I didn't hear a difference. Usually my ear can fairly easily distinguish such things on my system. Phenomenal release in 5-15-70. Please keep 'em coming just like that!!

I have just heard from Mac Dunlop that all Dick's Picks releases will be back in stock. We do not yet have an ETA on the missing ones but will try to make an appropriate amount of noise to bring them to the general attention when they are available again!

Just about the entire GD catalogue including the Download Series and Rare Cuts and Oddities can be purchased online in FLAC or MP3 or ALAC from: http://www.livedownloads.com/live-music/3,461/Grateful-Dead-mp3-flac-do… you can download the front cover from that site too. If you want all the artwork send me a pm and I will tell you where to find it Why you can buy there releaes from livedownlaods and not from here beats me..but at least they can be found somewhere!

    Download series?
Marye, thought you were gonna check on the Download series availability? Just looking to see if there's any plans. Would like to get the flacs, and I'm sure so many others would too. I can't see how it actually costs the company money to keep a link online... it's revenue generating. I can get the mp3's from amazon (no thanks) and so may forums have the bittorrents but that's just stealing. Why can't legit customers get the product? makes little sense to me.... Still would love to get the artwork for the cd's too.. not sure why that seems to be such a hard thing to acquire too.

    how to listen
why is it when I come to this site (and I have an account) there is no music? Shouldn't there be some streaming of great dead music when I come here?! Its about the music after all! I have really considered buying the winterland 1973 (nov 10) cd package but how can I preview o make sure it is the cd of the tape I owned so long ago? Any suggestions? Archive dot org removes it when there is a commercial release (fair enough) but how can I have a quick listen before buying? Its not on iTunes... any suggestions? Also, Dead.net should consider a format like iTunes where you can have a quick preview of songs....(but not sell by the song!!! never go there!)

I brought this up in the "Announcements" section but there was alot of "other stuff" going on there and it was maybe over looked. I grew up in Inglewood - saw my first rock show at the Forum, a group called Cream - also saw the Jefferson AIRPLANE (NOT Starship...), Jimi (twice), the Stones, Dylan, C.S.N. & Y., C.C.R. & the Grateful Dead (6 times) - ALL at the Forum. Many fond memories. My son is 16 and has not been to any shows of any kind yet. A while back he said he was mad at me because, through me, the Grateful Dead have become his favorite band, and he will never be able to see them. Now, because of this tour, he will be able to see the closest thing this side of that "big show in the sky". I have 2 ticket for the 9th and am very happy - BUT I just learned from a co-worker about the Stagehand Union strike at the Forum.See - http://www.ia33.org/action/la_forum.htm and/or http://www.justiceattheforum.com/ Neil Young canceled his show rather than cross the picket line. We have had some grocery store stickes as my boy has been growing up and we never cross the line.I hope someone is looking into this. I'm not trying to be negative. I am so glad that they are playing at the inauguration of the man I voted for. "Lotta poor man got to walk the line Just to pay his union dues" -Peace-

there has been some work on the servers happening behind the scenes, and it has periodically caused things to go a bit wacky. Generally it goes away on its own, but if the problem persists do speak up. (This also applies to the epidemic of duplicate posts and overenthusiasm of the spam filter, for which I do apologize.)

Here's what I received in the body of my confirmation email: "By choosing UPS 2nd Day Air or UPS Worldwide Express, it does NOT necessarily mean that your tickets will arrive two days after processing your order. Tickets will be shipped approximately two weeks before the event date; however they might be shipped earlier. If you have not received your tickets within one week of the event date, please email deadtickets@musicotoday.com immediately and we will happily assist you."

I apologize for bothering people with this question if the answer is obvious, but I am completely curious about it as the site has been down since well before Christmas. Thanks!

Thanks for the info marye. I guess it's just as simple as people having different opinions about who gets what and who owns what. I guess I'm glad I've been able to track down all of the Pure Jerry releases from other sources. It's just more proof that silliness still prevails in this world.

We usually stayed in a motel by the University. On El Camino Real by the Sizzler. A few miles away, but suffice it to say there were many tapestries in the windows and nobody ever closed a door all weekend! ;) Just remember, all the rooms look alike, so it's easy to find yourself in a room full of new friends. Kinda the point anyway, right? :)

except for the rare day I take off, I check the spam filter daily, so posts that get caught up in this fashion don't stay that way long enough to do anything like disrupt a vine. Though when responses are running a couple of hundred per hour it gets a little surreal.
