I understand they're limited to a single, one-hour set. My guess is that the setlist will look something like this. Morning Dew > Dark Star > Drums > Stella Blue - Encore: Viola Lee Blues Perhaps, if they don't stretch too much on Dark Star, they'll have time for a quick rundown of Money, Money. I like that suggestion of Help>Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower. Very appropriate. Franklin's Tower is about as patriotic as you can get. I once heard Warren Haynes play Slipknot! with P&F, and he does a good job with it. I also heard Warren Haynes sing "Stella Blue" in a solo acoustic set, and I can almost hear him singing "Ship of Fools" at this event--for those whose expectations for the new administration are way over the top. "The One" will not part the seas or bring Heaven to Earth. That's not his job.

...so I'm duplicating my misplaced post in the Dead Spring tour forum. Here goes: I wouldn't expect to see the Dead's appearance on TV, DC is filthy with inaugural balls (there are several just in the Convention Center), and the Mid-Atlantic isn't one of the more famous. The Neighborhood Ball will get the most media attention, since almost-President Obama just created it for us common folk. It is being televised, and will air live on ABC 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET. The Commander-in-Chief's Ball is televised to armed forces and some cable systems on the Pentagon Channel. The Youth Inaugural Ball will be broadcast on MTV channels around the world. The show airs at 10:00 p.m. EST/ 7:00 p.m. PST. Kid Rock, Fall Out Boy and Kanye West will be performing. Maybe MTV will catch some Dead video, but they're not covering the whole show, and the Youth Ball isn't at the Convention Center like the Mid-Atlantic. Getting around DC is probably pretty difficult around party time. The rest of the balls are the regional ones, there's one for each of the Prez and VP home states, and then the Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-West, Southern and Western Balls, each covering groups of states and US territories. Other than news clips I don't recall seeing much of these other soirees on TV; maybe there will be a kind taper or two in attendance at the Mid-Atlantic (although security will no doubt be a sho'nuff bitch at these things!) and a tape of the set will magically appear - I know I'll be watching archive.org, but I don't really expect to see the Dead set show up. Enjoy! MarkintheDark ********************************************* I have a sigfile! --> www.kindveggieburritos.com *********************************************

...Maybe ABC will pick up a little Dead-ness during the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball broadcast. Both balls (hehe) are in the convention center. Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, JAY-Z, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Alicia Keys, and Shakira are all performing at the NIB, though, so there might not be a lot of spare air time. ********************************************* I have a sigfile! --> www.kindveggieburritos.com *********************************************

This could be the dawn of anew era, although didn't the grateful dead play for president Clinton in the white house in the 90s? I believe he hung a grateful dead flag on the white house after Jerrys passing. Im curious as to what songs they played for Clinton. There were dayz, then there were dayz between....... Phatmoye

...I'd bet on it. Other than that addition pabogoniagirl's list looks accurate. Don't see 'em playing anything with drug references or doing much in the way of jams, they'll stick to happy bouncy tunes. Only have an hour to play, after all, and the place will be full of stuffed shirts. Got my fingers crossed for a tape, that's for sure, and it's bound to get video'd. Cheers, MarkintheDark ********************************************* I have a sigfile! --> www.kindveggieburritos.com *********************************************

Heres some more for the guest list: Sen Harry Reid NV Quote: "Here, I'll show you the bathroom. This is my prized possession, a signed poster of the Grateful Dead." -Las Vegas Eyes Witness News Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi CBS reports "'Ms. Pelosi is a huge Dead fan,' her spokeswoman said." She got them (minus Phil) to play at her party following her swearing-in ceremony. Political columnist Ann Coulter (what a babe) Quote: "But that is not what Wilson says he found! Thus, his column had the laughably hubristic title, "What I Didn't Find in Africa." (Once I couldn't find my car for hours after a Dead show. I call the experience: "What I Didn't Find in San Francisco.")" Political columnist Tucker Carlson Tucker interviewed Phil. A sighting at a Dark Star Orchestra show
