I mean I understand we're all in tough times right now, but I still don't think $50.00 is unreasonable for a show, even $89.50 which is the reserved seating at the venue I'm going to. Any show you go to now days is at least $50 and like some of the members have said above, it's the Dead. For me it's more about the chance to see them for possibly the last time, all together on stage doing what makes me love & appreciate them so much. And I get the frustration over the prices and not being able to go to multiple shows because of it, but hey, if you can at least get to one...I just don't see how it's not worth it? I said it yesterday and I'll say it again, I'm just so thankful that I will get to see them one more time in my lifetime..even if I have to sit way up in the nose bleed section. So let's try and stay positive...we've got one more day until pre-sale starts so let's just relax and see what happens. Positive thoughts brothers and sisters...positive thoughts. On that note, I hope everyone has a grate day...chat with all later!!!!

Um, yes, the good old days of cheap tickets and 100+ shows a year. How many musicians did that chew up and spit out? No thanks. The Dead don't provide the whole ride any more. They are one stop for your bus. Keep yer head.

These ticket prices are outrageous! And the word I hear is that the lower price tickets are for behind the stage. So you could be spending $100 on nosebleed tickets. (please confirm this elsewhere, but it seems to be true at least for the Nassau show)

After reading several posts all I can say is it's the DEAD man. God willing we will always make more money. I work for a non-profit so I know money can be tight. I'm going, period. This may be the last time, this may be the last time, maybe the last time I don't know. It's about the music, the feeling inside that makes you want to dance, dance, dance. Spin around to the music and bounce around to the drums. The joy it brings me to experience that feeling again brings tears to my eyes. Of course I'd love for them to come to the south, but oh well. They have their individual bands and tour all over and it's the main source of income for their band mates. Can we really be that selfish to ask them to keep their employees un-employed in this economy? We go where we can, when we can and be thankful.

This economy left me laid off from my job in August at which time I started my own business. While the business is getting me by, the economy has gotten much worse since then. Living in Georgia, I was still a little miffed about having to drive to Greensboro to catch a show (with no Jerry), but I insisted to all my friends that I would be going to Greensboro by myself if I had to. Also, how can the Dead justify playing a venue like MSG at this time? Why not pick a smaller venue with more dates (Like Nokia) and spread the tour out to more areas so the tour is about the Heads and not just about the fact that the Boys can stand on the same stage together.Well, during the process of waiting for the details of this tour to materialize, Phish announced their new tour with ticket prices much more reasonable, tour dates much closer to home and in small as well as big venues. I feel that I have burdened my wife already with my employment status over the last several months and I just can't justify being selfish enough to take off on my own to Greensboro. My wife and I will be at the Asheville Phish show come Spring.

Seems like you need to blow off some, but somewhere else. That shotgun quote at Hal is VERY unkind, not to mention against our good vibe way here. Yes indeedy, you're absolutely right in that we can disagree and argue and have differences of opinion, and all sorts of things here; but Hal's right-personal insults, name calling, and quoting threats like blowing Hal away are against the policy of the site that we all aggreed to when we joined here; and people will speak out against such things. ********************************** It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine

I agree insults and especially threats should not be tolerated and what steam said about the shotgun was over the top. On the flip side I think sometimes we take it too personally. Emails and posts tend to come across a lot worse than what was meant. I highly doubt steam really wants to point a shotgun at anybody. it's sort of a cliche about how things come across differently on the screen, but it's true nonetheless. Also we have people coming in from all over the world and coming from about a 50-year age spectrum, including a lot of people who came along after Jerry passed. A lot of different cultures and experiences going on. That's only going to be more so as the tour picks up and more folks find their way here. So there's a lot of different expectations and styles going on, and we're trying to find a place where everybody can coexist and share their thoughts candidly but peaceably. Thanks.

I've read several comments about The Dead not being the real thing without Jerry....... hmmm..... what can I say? Let me share (for those who might understand) my mother passed away summer of '92 and family gatherings have never been the same since - someone that I loved dearly was gone and I can never bring her back. Yet I still cherish the moments that I have with my father brother, and sister..... my family is still my family. When I saw the dead at Red Rocks for the first time after Jerry died - I had a similar since of loss which weighed heavily on me. There was a voice in the music that was missing - yet I could not turn from that which I have loved so dearly for so many years - as the song goes - our love will not fade away! Forgive me folks as I ramble on here...... I found out last spring that a congenital birth defect in my heart that was repaired in '71 has begun to fail..... I have lost 50% of my heart function and as a result now have an enlarged heart. Some days are better than others - good or bad, I am thankful for each one. I am fortunate enough to have gotten tickets for Denver, LA and Shoreline. I am truly looking forward to seeing so many of you again - not to mention the music! I have met so many kind people over the years at many shows. In each there own way many have made a difference for me that I can never say Thank You for nearly enough. $100 a ticket would go along way towards my medications and medical bills. Yet I realize that I will never be able to buy another day........... so I am scrimping and saving where ever I can. For me I can't let the chance go by to smile smile smile and dance all the while one more time. I wish each of you Peace, Happiness, and Good Health for many many years to come!!! Saint Stephen with a rose. In and out of the garden he goes. Country garland in the wind and the rain. Wherever he goes the people all complain.... Shine On! Saint Stephen

Thoughts and prayers are with ya my brother. I felt that same sense of loss one can only feel with the passing of a family member at the Golden Gate Park memorial after he died. I wept like a baby. My young daughter couldn't figure out what was up with Dad. I felt it again to a lesser degree when I saw the Dead in 03, but I also realized then that the magic that can only be experienced at a Dead show was still alive. These are amazin times for dead heads, with everything thats available now on the internet, for those who never had a chance to see him and for those of us who did but werent tied in real close to the taper community. His memory will live on forever through the advent of digital media. He was talkin about shit like holographic storage back in the late 70s before most of us had even heard of a PC. I'm sure he's lookin down over his glasses with that big ol smile. With each new sounboard or audience download I get glimpses of the genius that was Jerry. I will be at Shoreline again this year and would love to meet you and share a moment with you brother. Drop me a line. This must be addressed. Come on Mail Order! Take care all and enjoy your shows. I so much want to make 4 Decades. First show Central Park 5/5/68.

Singles were available rear and side stage only, but not for long. I let it go. Maybe next time, if there is a next time. I urge everyone to resist the urge to patronize scalpers. Let them get burned on their "investment" since they choose to look at it that way. They deserve to eat their bad karma. Did score decent floor seats for both nights at Meadowlands, though. There'll be music, sweet music! Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

So... The MSG Ticketmaster scene was a bit rough! My wife was online and had the similar experience that Dire Rain Ripple had. But she kept trying. Ended up w/ Level 300 behind the stage for $100ea!! Wow! I hope mail order is better, but the last GDTSTOO update said only 1 in 3 orders would be able to be filled, if you postmarked on 1/13. I did, and now I will wait. But...The reason my wife was online instead of me, was because I was down at the TU (Knick) in Albany to check into the scene. They did the old wristband thing. I ended up being 7th in line and got 4th Row Center Section!!!!!!! WooooooooHooooooo!!!!! Therefore...Our Tour shapes up like this: Albany, Worcester (Sat), MSG and then 2nd night Philly. Life is good. Yes Tix are expensive, but as I tell everyone, you cannot put a price tag on the memories you create at a Dead Show! As for the Song... Dark Star is always on the list so I won't list that one, so how about old stuff? Viola Lee Blues!!!! Super tight would be sweet!!! Good Luck to all finalizing your ticket and travel plans. We'll see you on tour!!! I can Tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines! I can Tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines!

I was only buying one ticket. Generally, I don't select "best available" because I often don't like Ticketmaster's method for selecting the best. But I probably should have this time. First I selected "loge" and was offered a seat in section 71 which is not bad but just starting to be behind the stage. I declined. Then I selected the "100" section and was told none available. Then I selected "best available" and got a seat in section 234, which I bought. Not a great seat, pretty far from the stage, but not so bad, either. I wonder what I would have been offered had I selected "best available" first off. Oh well, considering what everyone's been through (I also came up empty in the presale) I should feel glad just tonot be in the nosebleeds. I also mail ordered for one seat, and got the 1 out of 3 will be filled for MSG notice. Anyway, congrats to those that got choice seats, and sympathies to those that didn't.

I too was in the system a very short time. There weren't many ticket available that's for sure. I picked up two in sec. 210 for $95 + TM charges. My friends could only find seats behind the stage. I see people are trying to resell the ticket for double the price. I say let them eat their costs. I used to buy extra tickets and give them away before going in, not so easy anymore. Too many scalpers ruining that. All you can do is smile, smile, smile. See you at the show!!!

Sorry if my last post was a wet blanket - just tryin' to explain why I still luv The Dead and my extended family so much..... Tryin' to pick just one song that would blow me away - is kind of like bein' a kid in a candy store and only being allowed to pick one thing lol! Besides St. Stephen - Cosmic Charlie would be cool... and so would Big River.... and um Iko Iko........ and uh Me & My Uncle........ and maybe I Know Your Rider...... oh wait you said pick just one uh well uh..... DARK STAR!!! Gots to have me one of those!!!!! Atta Boy Jingle!!! I knew you would find a way to get there! theotherone2 - I am down for getting together @ Shoreline! Did you get reserve or GA? Mail order says I have a ticket - where I'm not sure.... I'm debating on staying the night at my bro's in Long Beach or maybe drivin' all night from The Forum up to Shoreline - What do you think? How long is that drive any way? Does anyone know if we can take disposable cameras to the shows or is this a venue by venue kind of decision? Saint Stephen with a rose. As a a life long Pennsylvania resident, it's bitter sweet seeing The Dead play the Spectrum. Not sure how many people know this, but the Spectrum is being demolished before the year is out. And The Dead hold the record for number of shows at the Spectrum. So this run will be really special for me. That old Spectrum has so many memories and it'll be sad to see it go, but no better way to say goodbye than at a Dead show. http://www.rememberthespectrum.com/ Call it local knowledge, gained a long time ago.

You may refer to this as the TICKET RANT!! Part I First off, I am not ever going to criticize the BAND. I've been Deadicated since 1966 and my first show was seen in 1972 (Fab Fox in STL). The Dead gets better, and better, and better every tour, because of where they came from and who they have associated themselves with. And, I mean no disrespect to JERRY because he is my idol and a true hero. A tour would be BETTER with him, and we do not forget. I will not bitch about paying $50.00 or $100.00 or a little more for a great ticket to see the Dead. Why, because they are worth it and it is tremendously expensive to do a tour. We don't mind paying sports heroes and movie stars outrageous money for far inferior talents, to do things that do not compare to the rigors of a tour like the one we are all looking forward to. Music is hard work dedication and love and the trip that these artists, and they truly are artists, will take us on is truly a surreal experience. ( by the way professional athletes are super humans but they are not generaly artist or musicians ) Part II - The Rant I am going from near STL to the Chicago show because it is the only one close enough to be affordable. Posted ticket prices for this show were $95 - $50. Tickets were to be on sale at noon Friday, January 23. I set aside time from work to be available because, my probably and now a learned mistaken understanding was that on line, was the only way to purchase tickets, after the pre-sale and mail- in options went by the by. I preregistered this week with Ticketmaster, I thought, so that I would hopefully get a ticket to see my favorite BAND. My best friend and I hoping to relive the last Chicago show I can remember with the BAND, at the same venue under "The Other Ones" moniker. Well, I go to the website only to find that the ticket sale is 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. REGROUP. So I get up early on a Saturday to prepare for what I am sure is going to be a long day. I want to get tickets like everyone else in a bad way. I have an email that commemorates my prereg with what I thought was Ticketmaster. So I begin the journey get logged in with deadnet find out that I am not preregistered with ticketmaster. I reregister and find that ther are no tickets for sale on Ticketmaster site. What's going on? Did they cancel something, move back the sale stagger the sale, was it sold out in two seconds WTF????????? I go to my email, click this and that, I was preregistered not with Ticketmaster, but with Tickets Now ( a Ticketmaster Co. ) They have tickets but not for $50.00 or $95.00, they are scalping, I assume, the tickets that were confirmed by mail order, presale or who the F...knows. I won't pay much more than face for any event because you can get into Wrigley Field, Busch, Fox, Pageant, anywhere if you know what you are doing. I do NOT need a miracle, I want to pay value for value, NO PROBLEM. But this was sick and I do not blame it on the BAND. It is unmitigated greed from the people who purchased tickets early so they can go for free, Ticketmaster, or the venues themselves. (they are real dead heads) Capitalism is the WHEEL and we are the hamsters, So God Bless the Conspiracy!!!!!!!! I wasted numerous hours of time and even requested an alert from Ticket master as to when the tickets would go on sale still waiting, eight hours later. Well I did try to call Ticketmaster BUSY. Then I called a local (Belleville Il) Ticketmaster to find that they had tickets. They had tickets, but by this time only those going for $50.00. Ones you could buy from Tickets Now for at least twice face ++++++++ 100.00 tickets now going for $300, $400, $900. Why wasn't Ticketmaster selling tickets on line????? Why didn't Ticketmaster let people know that they could just go to a vendor and get tickets rather than putting a message on line that they had no tickets on-sale for the show. I'm knowing and believing the the BAND did not have anything to do with this ripoff> And, I was able to get a good ticket but not without having to go to Consider it Dan to get presale tickets that were not sold out. Doing this did force us to spend xtra money but value considered it was a good deal. Done ranting Feedback and hope someone in authority with the BAND gets with it!!!

Ticketmaster is selling tickets to Chicago online and yes you want to steer clear of Tickets Now. "Everybody's braggin' and drinking that wine, I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines. Come to daddy on an inside straight, well I've got no chance of losing this time"

I hear your pain. Not sure what went down but I am confident it has nothing to do with the band. Perhaps another scam in Corporate America? I bought tickets to a few shows and thought I'd check out another venue sold through Ticketmaster. Tickets had gone on sale 20 minutes earlier. When I tried to purchase I was told the floor was sold out, then tried for anything, and again sold out, but their "partner" Ticket something (probably the Ticket Now you mentioned, but I do not recall) did have tickets priced from $150-$717. They were directly on the Ticketmaster site. I was disenchanted, so I figured 2 shows will be enough. I don't mind paying face value, and their little surcharges, but this was such a turn off that I stopped looking for any other shows. I'm going back to the good old fashioned mail order next time. Glad you got tic's. Have a great show.

I just checked and was able to get tickets for Hartford -- nosebleeds, but in the door at least. BUT I don't understand what is going on with Albany, you get directed to a ticket reseller. This whole thing is pretty strange. I'd like to see the number of tickets ACTUALLY sold and/or COMPd for each venue after every available method (including going to the venue) has been available for 24 hours. I think that would be very revealing. For one thing, it would say how popular a draw The Dead still are and it would reveal how fans are being manipulated. I'm not faulting the band at all, I think they are as much victims as we seem to be. So c'mon, put the numbers out there so we can see! The pay was pathetic. It's a shame those boys couldn't be more copascetic.

I was on the ticketmaster sight at 10:00 when tickets went on sale. Tickets were sold out immediately for the MSG show. Ticketmaster then directed me to their sister site tickets now. The $100 tickets were now being sold for up to $3500. Ticket master sold all the tickets to themselves and now started charging obscene amounts. The cheapest available were 400 level tickets behind the stage and these were $180. This is BS. THE DEAD NEEDS TO STOP USING TICKET MASTER NOW.....there are other ways to sell tickets.
