Grateful Dead Original Members To Perform Together Again One Last Time

Grateful Dead Original Members Reunite to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

“Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2015

Marks the Grateful Dead Members' Final Performance Together

    Event information available at Dead50.net

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four original members — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — will reunite at Chicago's Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" will occur over three nights on July 3, 4, and 5, 2015, marking the original members' last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Bruce Hornsby (piano). The group will perform two sets of music each night.

Jerry Garcia's daughter Trixie Garcia announced the shows in an exclusive interview. You can check out her announcement here.

Joining the original members of Grateful Dead are three musicians who have embodied the band’s spirit of musical innovation throughout their eclectic careers. Guitarist Trey Anastasio is best known for his work as the principal songwriter and lead guitarist for touring juggernaut Phish, but he has also found time to score and arrange music for orchestras and Broadway productions such as “Best Musical” TONY nominee ‘Hands on a Hardbody.’ Pianist Bruce Hornsby had already won the first of his three Grammy Awards when he first guested with Grateful Dead in 1988. Following the death of the band’s keyboard player Brent Mydland in 1990, Hornsby toured with the group into 1992, and he has maintained a collaborative relationship with its members ever since. Bay Area native and jazz keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joined Bob Weir’s Rat Dog in 1997, and has since worked on projects such as Phil Lesh & Friends, The Other Ones, The Dead, and Furthur.

In the tradition of the original Grateful Dead Ticketing Mail Order, tickets will first be made available via a first-come, first-served mail order system. All additional ticketing information is available at Dead50.net.

    the cluster
This mega cluster is the alignment of the moons. The core 4 couldn't fill the stadium. So they suck in phan dollars by adding Trey. A lot of hype ensues. Enough to wake the dead. GDTSTOO doesn't anticipate the volume and they get slammed. They realize they don't have nearly enough tix. So powers that be decide to give more tix to GDTSTOO. But Ticketmaster has to have their cut or no show. A deal is a deal. The light bulb of cluster goes off. "Hey! We'll give Ticketmaster the no view seats that we weren't going to sell and give Ticketmaster's previous sections to GDTSTOO. More seats! More money! Problem solved!" GDTSTOO has more seats to fill, but even with more seats, tix are still 1 in 10 odds. Three day passes you say? "Yeah 3 day passes. You know, one person gets to go to all the shows." "But doesn't that mean that 3 people could go to one show if you broke up the 3 day pass?" "Well, I suppose if you want to look at it that way, but really 1 in 10 odds aren't that bad. Besides doing more mailings means more work and with more seats now, we already have more index cards to file." GDTSTOO is even more overwhelmed filing index cards (huh, 2015?). So overwhelmed that they can't email all the winners let alone losers by the TM date. Wait!?! "Email?" "Yes, that's right, we're copying email addresses off index cards." The cluster of all clusters subsequently increases mass. While the Ticketmaster GA date approaches, CID dusts off their servers in anticipation of VIP sales. That's right, VIP sales for a Grateful Dead show. Somebody rolls over in his grave. You can hear a pin drop at 10:00 AM as a bazillion people sit, hand on mouse, waiting to refresh the CID page. Some jump the gun and at 9:55 there is a far distant cry from a CID server. "We're not made for this" they scream. Pages stop loading, by 10:00:30 CID is sold out. Yep, even the $5000 travel package complete with cheap shitty poster and free beer. At 10:05 a few less than a bazillion people just got their page to load to find the magic words: "Sold Out" "What just happened?" they say. "Damnit" they scream and think to themselves "At least we still have Ticketmaster". Few beers are drunk that night as weary would be ticket buyers want to be ready in the morning. After the worst night's sleep in years, morning comes and even those without pinkies or emails get ready. The computers boot up and the TM app is loaded on phones. Deja vu ensues. The seconds tick and at 10:00, TicketMaster enables the buy tickets button. Pages load. A million searches are launched. The magic revolving circle speaks to them. It says, "6 minutes" "22 minutes" "45 minutes" They believe the magic circle. Some break out of their hypnotic state in frantic realization that the magic circle lies. Windows are closed and new searches are made. But alas, too late. All that's left are no view seats. Many try for those, but even then for the vast majority it's too late. Some get lucky with two seats behind the stage. "We'll bring oxygen" they say. Credit card entered. Address typed in. Button pushed. "Sorry, but those seats are not available" replies the magic circle. "Fuck you magic circle." Later that evening, several Ticketmaster shutouts are injured as they fall out of their chairs waiting on the magic circle lies. The cluster grows beyond comprehension. As if Stubhub itself was the ticketmaster bot of all bots, $75 no view seats get listed on Stubhub for $1000 in mere seconds after 10:00. Many still haven't received their ticket emails or their money orders back. But there's hope! GDTSTOO tells in secret email that they are building a database for bounced back emails. A database you ask? "Yes a database." "Why do you need a database for a few bounced back emails" "We made some typos" Evidently, the few bounced back emails is really about 1000 typos made when copying email addresses from index cards (yes, index cards). Limbo ensues. Cluster swells. Massive number of shutouts need an itch scratched. Rumor mill is jump started. Santa Clara you say! "oh, please have mercy. I can't go through this again!"

    Sorry Spacepiggio
Again, no disrespect brother, either way, just debating...as for the female reference, I have made the mistake before and I was not suggesting you are a woman, actually, more implying an apology IF I made the mistake and assumed you were a guy and you were a woman...that is a weird one communicating with people you have never seen before and only have an avatar to go by - that and the voice of the writer. I wish it were done differently, actually I wish it were done as a couple of people here suggested, give first crack at those subscribing to DP and the Almanac - that would be a good 15 k right there so at least a good 30k of tickets for each show (give or take). I just don't know how else to do it to be honest...

TALKIN' ABOUT "FARE THEE WELL: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF GRATEFUL DEAD"

“I have a feeling this will come out just right. Can’t wait to find out…HERE WE GO!” - Mickey Hart

"The Grateful Dead lived an incredible musical story and now we get to write a whole new chapter. By celebrating our 50th, we get to cheer our past, but this isn't just about history. The Grateful Dead always played improvisational music that was born in the moment and we plan on doing the same this round." - Bill Kreutzmann

“It is with respect and gratitude that we reconvene the Dead one last time to celebrate - not merely the band's legacy, but also the community that we’ve been playing to, and with, for fifty years,” - Phil Lesh "Wave that flag, wave it wide and high…"

"Lookin' forward to this one, oh boy, you bet. Let's see just how much fun we can have this 4th of July." - Bob Weir<

I was just replying to the other post that I called the USPS line around 5. Then I was checking the CID packages to figure out if that's an option but looks like the Workingman's Dead option disappeared. And I remember somebody saying this weeks ago but saw it just two days ago- thought I had refreshed the page?! Thanks for all the help, think I need to back up off it!

Not looking good. This event seems to be getting harder and harder to get a ticket for. It's been quite the whirlwind of emotions on this one. Kindof makes you question what the whole point is in getting so worked up about it.

No pink slip today and, as per my usual routine these days, I called the 866-459-7822 number to check the status of my MO's it kicked me to a live person at the USPS accounting help desk in St. Louis. I explained what I was trying to do and he was familiar with the situation. I told him about the "match" or "does not match" verification and he told me that this information is incorrect. I'm paraphrasing here but he said "match or doesn't match indicates nothing. All the posts on all the boards are wrong. The only way to see if your MO has been cashed is to make an inquiry at the Post Office". Guess I'll keep checking the mail and prepare for TM sales on Saturday just in case.

From the people I spoke to at USPS, it seems as though the MO tracking is not reliable at all. It takes weeks to verify anything, according to them. Keep the faith!!!!

Tedd, I believe the deal is that once a money order is cashed, it is purged from the PO's tracking system. As long as it "matches [their] records," it has not been purged, and therefore has not been cashed. Once it has been purged, it no longer matches a live record. So, if your MO does not match their records (which it probably does not, if you were kicked to a human), this implies, but does not guarantee, that it has been cashed. Strictly speaking, the human gave you gave you accurate information, but I still think you're in good shape if you're not getting the "matches our records" recording. At least that's how it works in my head. Checked my own this morning--two of three match, the third goes to a human, to whom I did not wait to speak. Unfortunately, the non-match is not for my tickets. Therefore, unkle sam, I will be submitting my essay and awaiting my examination. Seriously..."Cash for your extras..."

@ honumama - Congrats on getting at least part of your order filled. As far as how to find out whether it was all or part, my guess is the only thing is to check and see which of your money orders were cashed. I think GDTSTOO is too overwhelmed to detail which of your requests was filled at least for a few more weeks (which is why they said not to email them). Oh yeah, if you have any extras, please PM me.

You are the first and only person on any site who appears to have received and email. Wishing you good luck. The only way to find out is to see what was cashed. Pay for postal money orders the 6.50 or call western union to confirm

Hi. Thanks deepyarn. I'm in Marin County, CA - just 40 minutes away from Stinson Beach. My friend, who also lives here, got the email too. He actually got two emails "#3" and "#4". Mine was in the "#4" batch. I'm not sure if that means that he got tickets for the 3rd and 4th, and I got them for the 4th? It's all a riddle, but I'm excited. Good luck to everyone!

Perhaps the post office employees were told to tell us it is garbage to get us to pay the 6 bucks. I don't know why they didn't ask us to track at the lpost office. After sending out thousands of dollars I would have definitively paid the six bucks from the get go! Silly not to imho. I'm getting sick and tired already and unless I get lucky - hah - with my rejection reaching me in 3 business days I know I won't have them back by on sale date. GL to all Btw I did match and I've been home sick and can't go pay the six bucks but why do it now? I also checked so many times Im kicked to accounting. Lol. I was asked when it's going to end. I thought this week and the lady Candice was happy to hear it but now I know I was incorrect and it can go on for a few more weeks. I have a felling the picked all the winners given that email Unless they mean they still have 25% rejections and wins left to do. I thought it meant they picked all the winners already but who knows? Gdts knows and NOT ME Gita

Those of us who have not gotten a Pinky yet AND have not gotten an e-mail of ticket award yet really got thrown a tough blow today. At one point it was looking good (if the envelopes had all been processed), but now it looks like we are in the worst position, since we most likely we will have no Tix AND no Money Order money for the Saturday sale. What a strange turn of events today. But congrats to the winners in that 10% and hats off to the GDTS folks that worked super hard to do what they could with the massive volume of envelopes.

No hard feelings to the good folks at GDTS TOO, I have received many great tickets from them over the years! I think having a mail order was a nice touch and kind of a cool part of the overall closure process that I see this event to be. P+L (and, of course good luck) to all!

This was in my email this morning. It says #8 in the letter head on this one. I read that others say #3 or #4, so I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of tickets or what day. I requested 1 ticket for each day, but like the email states, it's not clear whether part or full order. Oh yeah, I used postal money orders. When checked at USPS mo page, it did not recognize the serial number. When I called the 866#, all the money orders say they "do Not match their system". So, I guess take all that for what it's worth.. Im in McKinleyville, CA GD 50th Tickets #8 Tuesday, February 24, 2015 10:26 AM From: "GDTS TOO Inc." To: "GDTS TOO Inc." Congratulations! My very lucky GD 50th Tickets email # is #101. I requested "Any" 2 tix each day. All 9 MO's were cashed according to the USPS number which said my tickets did not match their records. I'm curios to know more about the numbering as well. I'm in Texas.

in reading most of this thread.....i understand the "does" and "does NOT" match our records aspect of the USPS inquiry system....BUT.....as my anxiety builds everyday, this morning TWO of my 6 money orders ( 2 tix for 2 shows - 3 MO per show ) automatically connect to a real human. Of course they tell me to spend $6.50 per MO at my local post office -- but before i do that -- i tried these serial numbers a few times each, always with the same result. The others give me the "does" match, so im not confident there -------- but what about the two ? they were for $191 & $200 which would be the $195.50 price tier each.

Hey FLA_deadhead. Same here. Some of mine are "Matched", some are going to a person. But yesterday and days prior they were all saying "Matched". Anyone out there have an idea of what this is telling us? Thanks

Velveteen: like the complete neurotic nut-job that i am.....i just called 866# again. Now, more of my MO's are going straight to a human. so, i would like to assume, and not be naive, that they have become deposited/cashed by GDTS and we should hopefully be getting emailed later ? or did the USPS flip a switch somewhere, and change how the inquiry system routes calls ?? ALSO -- lets all please remember that GDTS clearly stated that they would be emailing "over the next couple days"..and that was said of 2/23 Positive vibes....and anti-mailmen w/ pinky's

FLA_Deadhead. I don't see why they would change their system like this. Let's hope it does mean that some were cashed. And you're right about the emails, they are coming in waves. Some were sent yesterday early afternoon, some later afternoon. So more should be coming today, tomorrow, and Friday. The suspense is unreal.

I am in the same boat as you folks = no rejection letter, no confirmation email, and USPS phone inquiries get automatically sent to an agent where before I was getting "matches." Unfortunately, I do not believe that this means that the MO's have been cashed. Instead, I think it means that we called too many times about a specific money order. While this does not mean that the money order has not been cashed, it does not indicate that it has been. Best of luck.

I think he's right in that "getting a human" just means you have inquired about that MO enough that it triggers. I went and paid the $6 at the post office and then went home and called. The person told me my money order had not been cashed. No email yet and the mailman is coming down the street...

Here is what I have experienced: I ordered 4 tix to each show same envelope (moderate art) with nine money orders indicating I was willing to take any of the three ticket options. I also opted for UPS return, so an additional $25 MO was included for that. Monday 2/23 - Checked my MO status both via the phone and online at USPS.com. All 9 MO were a Match through both methods. Tuesday 2/24 - Checked all again at both places. Phone Matched all 9 MO.....USPS.com showed No-Match on all 9. (9:30 pm I received my confirmation email from GDTSTOO) Today 2/25 - Just to see, I phoned into the auto service. I made it through about half of my MO's (each one now indicating a No-Match) when I was kicked to an operator. I told him I was trying to determine if my MO's were cashed. We joked a little cause he already figured why I was so interested (although I never really told him). He asked me my name and if I had any of the MO #'s available. I gave him the numbers from the three $400 top tier MO's (only the last two #'s in the serial # change). He explained that the MO tracking by phone and USPS.com are not in any way accurate (which I now believe is untrue based on what I'm writing) That's when he asked if I had gone to the post office to pay my $6.20 per MO to have them researched. I informed him that I had not. He says, "well let me explain exactly how that works. I need you to listen very carefully, okay?...one of three things will happen.." 1. They will confirm that it has NOT been cashed 2. They will confirm that it HAS been cashed and that will trigger a copy of your cancelled MO to be sent to you. 3. If after 60 days your money order is lost or stolen,it's insured, and a bank check will be issued to reimburse you. I patiently listened, and he then says, "now had you gone to the post office and paid your $6.20 this morning, you would be waiting for some documents to come to you in the mail right now." wink, wink.
