    Hey Geo, good morning and thanks for the story. There are lots of those mechanics where I come from. And many of them have repaired my cars. Today, I have no time for story tellin but you folks that can spin a good yarn go right ahead. Bein' a youngster...I dont have lots of Dead stories to tell or road stories for that matter... That's why I speak through lyrics oftentimes, because the song says it best. And the music, hopefully we can all relate to. Have a great day and an even better weekend! Peace

    Welp, it's Friday guys, and we can go this way or that way... Tony and all you brothers and sisters in Florida, batten down the hatches and roll up the winders...somethings blowing in... Regarding music and lyrics and singing, oh my, it is nice to see a song here once and awhile...but like any room, if the music is too loud or too much, it stifles conversation. For a fact I don't post sometimes because I know in an hour or so any post might be glanced at but then would be buried by a whole slew of cut and paste lyrics...lyrics...lyrics...and while it's fun to see and read the tête-à-tête between our dus brivers, sometimes the passengers wanna talk too... So let's maybe talk...turn off the TV and radio and share experiences... did I ever tell you about the last unofficial auto garage mechanic on Route 66? Under a huge spreading oak tree with parts covered in dust and rust from the halcyon days gone by....this family still plys their trade. You can get there by turning off the interstate outside of Barstow, finding the old pavement and driving towards the sunset till you see that magestic tree looming up on the faceless horizon... Twas a simpler life they say, roaring down the Route 66 highway ribbon crossing the continent in those days of our youth. And here we have a family's enterprize...started by grandpa and now run by the great grandkids. We have the car towed in, we greet the various family members and dogs and cats, and Grandma calls out to Johnny...come help these folks... We find a young-un, the simple garage mechanic, willing to sweat all day to fix a split rim tire rim with brake shoes welded from heat....all day slaving away in the sun, and at the end? "That'll be ten bucks." To top it off, the Matriarch Grandmother invited us in for apple pie and ice cream while we waited. True story, Anne Marie can attest... That's my Friday tale to share, And you? What's your story?

    For our final selection here on KDED... We bring you one fine Dead tune... Went to see the captain, strangest I could find, Laid my proposition down, laid it on the line. I won't slave for beggar's pay, likewise gold and jewels, But I would slave to learn the way to sink your ship of fools. Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me. It was later than I thought when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. Saw your first ship sink and drown, from rockin' of the boat, And all that could not sink or swim was just left there to float. I won't leave you drifting down, but woh it makes me wild, With thirty years upon my head to have you call me child. Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me. It was later than I thought when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. The bottles stand as empty, as they were filled before. Time there was and plenty, but from that cup no more. Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few: Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools. Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me. It was later than I thought, when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. It was later than I thought when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. Peace

    Can you believe it's almost September? The kids are all back at school...summer is singing it's swansong. Nobody on the road Nobody on the beach I feel it in the air The summer's out of reach Empty lake, empty streets The sun goes down alone I'm driving by your house Though I know you're not home But I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone I never will forget those nights I wonder if it was a dream Remember how you made me crazy? Remember how I made you scream Now I don't understand what happened to our love But babe, I'm gonna get you back I'm gonna show you what I'm made of I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun I see you walking real slow and you're smilin' at everyone I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back" I thought I knew what love was What did I know? Those days are gone forever I should just let them go but- I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got that top pulled down and that radio on, baby And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone Next week is the Deadhead baseball night...and then Labor Day : }

    it's been real, its been fun...it's been REAL FUN! Makes me want to go home and put my cowboy boots on. Matt and I watch westerns every Sunday without fail. I ain't an educated man As all you Fleet Street preachers know, It's just the simple things in life Get my motor running, ready to go If I can make you smile I will raise my glass, An' if you don't like it Then, baby, you can kiss my ass! You can tell me it's wrong, But, I love wine, women an' song Give me a good time woman, An' a love potion bottle of booze 'Cos I got a juke box heart Full of honky tonk rhythm an' blues You better lock up your daughter, your sister too, If get in my way, I'm gonna rock an' roll over you, Ain't nothing you can do You can tell it's wrong, But I love wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song, talking 'bout Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song You get what you can But, don't take too long Wine, women an' song, Give me a rock an' roll band With a mean an' dirty blues guitar, Take me to a dance hall palace With a twenty four hour bar Then you better lock up your daughter, your sister too, If you get in my way, I'm gonna rock an' roll over you, Ain't nothing you can do You can tell me it's wrong, But I love wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song, talking 'bout Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song You get what you can But, don't take too long, Wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song You get what you can But, don't take too long, Wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song Take it easy...Happy Trails!

    Damn it Waylon and Willie...they all listened. Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys They'll never stay home and they're always alone Even with someone they love Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold And they'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levis And each night begins a new day And if you don't understand him and he don't die young He'll probably just ride away Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys They'll never stay home and they're always alone Even with someone they love Cowboys like smoky old pool rooms, clear mountain mornings Little warm puppies and children, girls of the night And them that don't know him won't like him and them that do Sometimes won't know how to take him He ain't wrong, he's just different but his pride won't let him Do things to make you think he's right Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys They'll never stay home and they're always alone Even with someone they love Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

Back in the 80's, my dad took the entire video of my brother's wedding with the camera upside down. The last thing on the recording is his grumbly baritone growling ... "godammit, you mean I've had this fucking thing..." One of my life's true precious memories. Man oh man, I miss that man.
