Richard - photos SVP!! Playin - glad to hear you're on a great path. Teaching is a very rewarding way to contribute to society. Kids always appreciate an open minded mentor, who lets them explore their own interests while supporting them in learning what's required. Sounds like your heart is in it so I know you'll do wonderful things. I hope there are more jobs in your region than in ours... the climate is a bit tough and competitive right now in Ontario in general. Good luck! =) I wish I could smuggle you all away to the shows. We'll see how we do on Monday for the presale. I don't know if there's a chance in hell of getting Cornell tix, but we've gotta try! Do let me know if you're ever in the Toronto area, won't you? It'd be great to meet up and trip around a bit. Love, K BTW - check my blog lately?

Hey K, c'est un genre de tradition d'écrire son nom à l'arrière des décors que nous utilisons. Celui-ci venant de San Francisco, je ne pouvais passé mon tour.Playin', in the first act there'a big rock that open in the center, I put it on the stage left side of it. Take care my friends. Richard.

Hi Richard and K, Thanks to the handy "Bing translator" I was able to decifer your coded messages. Richard, where did you paint the lightning bolt!? K, I see Furthur are playing in Buffalo. Sounds like your going and maybe to Ithaca too! I am jealous again. Happy for you, but sad for me......not too sad really, actually quite happy but would like to go too..... Oh well, I'll have to just keep playing and listening for now. I keep playing with some guys in my neighbourhood. One of them has a feeling that we might end up a GD cover band. :) K, so you're a teacher (please don't mark my grammer too harshly!). Well so am I, though not officially yet. Today, I just finished helping a number of first graders with their reading - I loved it!!!!! I've been doing that once a week for a couple of months now. I'm also volunteering at the boys and girls club once a week. Just started helping a ninth grader a couple of weeks ago with his Biology. Now I just need to figure out which program route I want to persue. I'm hopeful my volunteering experiences will point the direction more clearly than I see now. My kids are 8 and 6 now and my wife is currently at teachers college. I have had enough of the business world, in one sense its amazing I've hung in so long (but that is a long and complicated story). I plan to be attending teachers college in 2011 - I want to be there now, but our finances won't allow for this....I must be patient. Oh well, "they" say good things come to those who wait...although they also say he who hesitates is lost......so I guess I'll just have to chart my own path (much more fun anyway). Keep well out there, Sending love and wishing for all the good things, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat P.S. It's just a box of rain I don't know who put it there; Believe it if you need it, or leave it if you dare. And it's just a box of rain or a ribbon for your hair. Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there.

Mtl DeadHead style.A bientôt, Richard.

Greetings Can-head friends, old and new... I miss reading of your whereabouts and I'm glad some new folk have dropped by this page. Is anyone heading out to NY for the Furthur shows? (Not me this time) poetprince: when in Toronto, look up the Caution Jam. There's lots of good music in the city, but that band is particularly Dead-icated. Say hi to the guitarist, Eric, and tell him Kirsten sent you. =) How long are you around? Richard & Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat: J'espere que ca va bien, les camarades. I really hope things are super fine with you both. I am teaching full-time (good) but my contract will end soon (also good). I'm looking forward to a bit of breathing space and freedom for music and thinking and such. Hope your fall was as rich and warm as mine! See you soon in e-dead land... A bientot, K

Hi Richard and all, Just saying hi. Wish we had a GD cover band around I could use a night out like that. Oh well, hopefully the boys will be back next spring! Lately been having fun jamming out Fire on the Mountain and Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad and Friend of the Devil. Come to think of it I could be in a GD cover band. Maybe further on down the road.............we are also playing Superstition, Jumping Jack Flash, Take Me to The River, Cinnamon Girl and the Weight (ahhh the Weight)..... Keep smiling friendly folk. Peace, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat P.S. thanks Longrifle for the name of that cover band "Dustcover". I'll see if I can find them on the web. I hope they tour out this way. :)

Hi Jodster, I highly recommend the Hillside festival in Guelph, Ontario. Details are on the web. The music is outstanding as are the people and the entire event. It happens over 4 days at the end of July. It is at Guelph Lake Conservation area (swimming too!). It is great for friends, kids and families too! The year before last a buddy and I stumbled apon a tribute to the Band that was incredible. They have very good musical acts from around the globe, are very environmentally friendly and the vibe is just great. People have bonfires throughout the campgrounds and guitars and drumming roll through the trees into the night. If you have kids they have a great play area too! Anyway, well worth experiencing! Talking about Watkin's Glenn, The Band at Watkin's Glenn is a great CD. Apparently the Allman Brother's and The Grateful Dead were their too (early 70's I'm guessing). I would love to get ahold of the Dead's set (and the Allman Brother's) for that festival. All the Best, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

News of True Love to all, O.K. so the Dead are on tour (#@!#!) and our finances are tight (transitioning to be a teacher). We have suspended all concert spending for the time being. Well on Saturday I tell my wife that the Dead are on tour....and she says......"You should go.". That was all I needed to hear.....weeeeeee.........happy, happy, happy.....I am so keyed up for this event. We are going..........Buffalo April, 21st, 2009....oh baby...I'm like a kid thinking about Christmas. There's a huge fest in BC's interior (location moves every year) called Shambhala. Not really into the big festivals, but everyone I know who's been says its a great time. There's over 100 artists, a few different stages, villages, healing and craft areas and the Rebel Soul Village - home to campaigns, workshops, cinema and debates. Variety of music too! Check out http://www.shambhalamusicfestival.com/ for more info. Cheers! ~littlebri

Hi Richard, Canadian Dead, Litlebri, Jodster and all, We (my wife and I) are going to one - April 21st in Buffalo.------weeee!!!!!!!!!! I wish they would come to Ontario some time. Do you know if any of them come over the boarder to play? I took a large cookie tin and an old jean shirt (with cool paint splatter from various artistic endevours in our basement with my two kids) and redrew the steal your face logo from One from the Vault. It was a beautiful sunny day and I spent a good deal of it outside in a chair listening to you know who and working on the shirt. A good (Grate) day. I will be wearing this at the show. I'll post a pic soon. Here is a gift to you all, and all others reading this message; In case you are not aware, you should check out nugs.net. Go to "free stash" (top right corner I think). There are 43 (?) dead shows there for your listening enjoyment. I also, just yesterday signed up for "The Deadpod" . Started by some Dead loving proffesor. Free in I-Tunes. This morning listening to a great acoustic set from 70'. Richard, Playin' ---- coooollll. Peace. Later, Playin' (Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat)

Hi Canadian Heads, I just ordered the Grateful Dead Movie yesterday using some points I didn't even know I had accumulated...it was expensive, though with the points it's like its free! Anyway looking forward to it arriving and to firing it up. I remember experiencing it in the mid-eighties and havn't seen it since. Any recommendations as to 73' dead, I am starting to gravitate toward 73' lately..... Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Greetings Can-heads! It's good to see a few folks here gearing up for the shows. A few of us will be heading to MSG from Toronto. Although there's no room in the van, we hope to meet other heads for before- and after-party fun. Any shows/jams much appreciated. Check out the Deadheads>Scene> for hookups at specific shows. I was listening recently to a show my partner was at: Kingswood, ON, June 30, 1987. Here's the archive.org link: http://www.archive.org/details/gd87-06-30.schoeps.ladner.8577.sbeok.shnf Any other great Canadian shows are ALWAYS appreciated. My first were Copps Coliseum, Hamilton, ON, March 20, 21, 1992. Beautiful stuff, folks! Love to all, K

Hi folks, I got a message from an inquiring mind as to what makes Canadian Deadheads different from other heads. I'll share my reply and wonder what you all think... I myself wonder what it is. Maybe we feel bonded by the fact that our culture is slightly different than our neighbours to the south - our population is much smaller and we find comfort in finding fellow heads in the same country. We have a strong sense of our own geography, landscapes that we love, places we've had to endure... imagine the Canadian version of American folklore with place names and eras and histories that we share in common. Coming from this perspective and loving the Dead make for a special combination. Also, Dead shows in Canada are rare and special treats and we tend to remember them fondly. One of the most distinguishing features, I think, is that because of this, we all end up crossing the border for shows and that is quite an adventure. Many a road story about being stopped at the border and searched, sent back, arrested, etc.... It's like a rite of passage that we all have had to endure. It also means that most of us are dry once we cross to the "other side" and need to start making friends quick if we're going to get a good buzz. Maybe that's why Canadians are known to be so friendly! Any thoughts? I find it an interesting discussion worthy of its own Canadian studies course. Maybe I'll get my partner who's a prof and Dead scholar to create it! Love meeting you all in the virtual realm. K

Ha! Cheesy but even funny for vegans. Keep the puns coming! I remember at Copps in Hamilton (March 20,21 1992) there was a hotel across the street with an elaborate lunch menu sandwich board that someone in the know had converted entirely with GDead references. Things like Cold Rain & Snowpeas salad, Loose Juicy, China Cat Sunflower bread... It went on & on... I can't do it justice. K

On another note, those of us who will be going on Spring Tour can still use driver's license and birth certificates to cross on land, but new laws will mean that EVERYONE travelling to the US, whether by land or air must have a passport as of JUNE 1, 2009. That means that Rothbury will only be possible with a passport. Just thought you'd like to know! K

Due to your fondness for our Country, your clear sense of good judgement when it comes to music, and a sence I get that you would be an asset to Canada, it is my distinct pleasure to award to you, Gypsy Cowgirl, on behalf of all Canada and all its citizens whether they be Deadheads, crazy bald heads, or no heads (decapitated in horrible car accidents) an honourary (honorary) Canadian citizenship. May you never be hassled at any border between our nations or by any of our citizens. Sincerely, Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat P.S. There is something about California that makes me feel right at home, perhaps partially our accents (or lack thereof depending on point of view) are very similar. While I havn't been in years, I felt very at home there. Also, I am very impressed with California in its leading of environmental initiatives in North America. P.P.S. had a beautiful moment this morning - I was listening to a 77' dead at a fair volume while showering and I heard a door slam and the music got quieter. When finished I opened the door to my room and found my 2 kids (7 and 6), hopping up and down on my bed, great big smiles on their faces, shinning flashlights on the walls while listening to a fine version of Good Lovin'. What happy loving music. The GD just make me feel so good! Peace

Dear Gypsy, As far as paper work goes, if you send me your address I'll forward the documents to you (sending through private e-mail message might be best) perhaps with a drawing or two from my little sweet cheeks (she kind on reminds me of the pic of your darling one - one of your grandkids no doubt (from your bio)) . Or you could go without the official paperwork. They don't need too see "no stinckin' badges" anyway. Just tell anyone who hassles you for the paperwork that I vouch for you and please remind them that as part of our agreement noone is allowed to hassle you. Anyway, as far as the pre-mentioned strangeness, the show you forwarded to me was from my birthday when I was 3. I was born 27/07/70. Perhaps needless to say, 7's seem significant, or at least stand out, to me especially in 3's. Anyway I'm looking forward to listening to the 27/07/73 show you sent my way as I've been gravitating toward 73' shows lately (maybe I mentioned that on a previous e-mail that you saw? or perhaps some more weirdness is afoot). For those who didn't get that, it's just a plot to take over Deadnet by French-speaking narcs. =) D'où viens-tu, Richard?
