Who doesn't love Jerry week! What a great celebration of a musical genius. Having the opportunity to see him play over 100 times is a gift that I share with others way beyond the 9 days of Jerry week!

Every year my knowledge grows about the Grateful Dead and all of it's components. Thanks to the library of books, The Grateful Deadcast, documentaries, and the beauty of traveling exhibits, like at the Sphere, my personal Dead Almanac continues to grow.
I celebrate Jerry and the rest of the band every day! There is always room for some music that is theirs or that they have their pulse on!

What a wonderful world we live in with all of these resources!

the sky turned yellow and the sun turned blue, life as we knew it stopped, Jerry Garcia died, we all cried, we all remembered how much he gave us all, and smiled, even thru the tears, we still managed a smile. Jerry was a warrior of the highest degree, he turned on the world to the wonders of space music, he was and still is, the greatest. It's hard to remember this day so long ago with out a tear coming to your eye. Life was sweeter when he was around to save our souls. Miss you so much Jerry, wish you were here. Nothing left to do but.......:)

Well, it wasn't the Grateful Dead, or any of the original band member offspring bands, but my little guy (pictured left) attended his 1st concert Friday night! Dark Star Orchestra at pocahontas state park in VA He loved it! I caught him dancing to Uncle John's Band in the 2nd set which made my smile... otherwise playing with the other kids throughout, which was cool. I went back last night for Jerry's actual BDay show with friends so i could enjoy it on a different level...great show, great memories...all because of Jerry Garcia!

The essay brought tears to my eyes and shivers through my body. The opening of the door to the cosmos where the spirits of Syd Barrett, Arthur Lee, William Burroughs and Jerry reside. Thank you Patti. I have no thoughts of my own to add. Silence is best at times. Time to listen to the self and nature. Beyond words. A candle and incense and Dark Star tonight. Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.) Walt Whitman-Song of Myself

From Robert Hunter's journal last year:

Jerry was the complete package, wrapped with a ribbon and marked "Return to Sender." Our long time sorrow reminds me of the 50's cartoon where Dennis the Menace is sitting on top of a heap of unwrapped Christmas presents and boxes about twice as tall as he is saying: "Is that all? "

(ME here: the weird thing is, that particular cartoon was one of my childhood favorites...)

I thought I would post in this section next as I already posted two video clips in the "Jerry" forum. Feeling Jerry today in a big way. The love, the music, the laughter - all he brought and all he was. Playing around on YouTube I keep finding some nice morsels. Here is another! Enjoy! I don't always listen to the Dead like I used to. There are times when I feel like I need to listen to the Dead. That week is one of those times. I listened to the Dead every day, just to hear Jerry's voice. Happy Jerry week to everyone, and rest in piece Jerry Garcia.

in McLaren Park in SF, and you're coming from the East Bay, please note that BART *is not running* this weekend due to construction. There will be buses, but plan accordingly, as things will be more complicated than usual. And now back to your regularly scheduled festivities....

This week is kinda special for me too. Not only is Jerry missed but so too I miss my Dad. This week my Dad would have been 100 if he were alive."So many roads, I tell you" So many roads I know" "So many roads, so many roads" May both their Spirits bless and keep watch over all who think of them.
