Right on, my friend. Enjoy the shows and when you see the Florida plates come on over and introduce yourself and we'll break bread. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.

Doesn't matter what they call themselves, they've gathered themselves together for one reason... they love the music, and together they can make some special music that I have not found with any other combination of players. Jerry may not be on stage, but he still inspires these guys (see the recent video). What magic they can make when their inspriation flows through them, an energy beyond the notes they play. The priviledge of sharing those moments when they create that magic is well worth the price of admission. "there're not only the best at what they do... they're the only ones who do what they do!" Bill Graham and as for the price... it's not easy to come up with the funds, but it's relative... it wasn't easy to come up with the 12.50 I paid in '84 for my first show (Actually I think I traded a ride to the show for the ticket and party favors)... anyway... I've paid a lot more for a lot less recently and I know the band has to fork over a ton of cash to move this party all over the country, pay roadies, truckers, promoters, etc. Bottom line... if I didn't think the priveledge of spending my time with this group of musicians and the most amazing community of friends and freaks was worth $100, I'd find something else to do and stop worrying about the way other people choose to live their lives... But that's just me....

The Dead are on tour.... cough up the little bit of spleef and check it out! THEN come back and give an honest report of the facts. Thank you.

Im sorry my friend, but three of the founding members(plus Mickey)is hardly a cover band! I agree they're charging way too much, but to call them a COVER BAND is just silly--BTW--I just heard about that band SPLINTERED SUNLIGHT--someone else spoke highly of them. Do they tour nationally?(esp.Boston area)Do you have a Tour schedule you could post? Are they as good as DSO? peaceout-G

I keep seeing people post how this is "the Dead" and they are worth it. I agree, on one condition; JERRY MUST PLAY!!!!!!!!! Without him this is a really good Dead cover band. With the state of the economy, for them to charge these prices is fiscally irresponsible. Jerry NEVER would have allowed this. It is sad, but predictable. So for all of you hoping to see "the Dead", too late. There is a great cover band, Splintered Sunlight, they even have a guy who sounds like Jerry. Check them out, it probably costs about 10 bucks.

Thanks for that-you bring up some good points-Maybe im being a little paranoid about bringin' the wee ones. Outdoor and GA are key. My whole point was I would'nt bring them to an arena show-I wish I was near REDROCKS-that must be sweet-but maybe i'll bring em to RATDOG at the tweeter center this summer! Thanks again,bro-peace GARCIALATER!

this tour is kind of over, but other forum topics are reasonably lively. There's a good deal more to the site than this one topic.

Hey there, can anyone tell me if GDTS-TOO has sent out the mail order tickets for the Further gigs for Sept. 18-19-20 in Oakland? Did anyone here receive their tix yet? Gigs are two weeks from today, and though I haven't done mail order since spring tour '95 it seems that I always got my tickets in the mail by the time it was two weeks to the show date. Thanks!

out of the bush for a little while, met up with a little birdie who told me to keep yer eyes and ears open for some NYE shows at the Great American Music Hall in SF. odds are it will be Further rather then the Dead or possibly the DOG and Phriends... at the very least, Jackie Greene will be playing!! ( -: the rumor mill has just started cranking back to life. love and peace.

that'd be a real tough ticket. The GAMH is tiny. Really cool venue, but tiny.

Since DSO and Govt Mule each have NYE plans already I would place my bet on a RatDog/Phriends show like last year. "I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel. Can't win for tryin. Dust off those rusty strings just one more time. Gonna make em shine."

yup, the music hall only has about a 5 or 600 standing capacity... Greene is slated to play there 12/30 / 12/31; will some of the boys show up to jam? will the Dog or Phriends set up their own joint gigs back at the Civic Center like last year?? well, well, well, you can never tell. Further is busy until mid-Dec, on the east coast... figure a couple of weeks off for Christmas, and then... hmmmm.... peace.

What is the address of the Great American Music Hall and is it near the Cal Train Station? Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land. Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name. Psalm 74

folks, please keep in mind The Dead or the Dog or Phriends or Further for NYE is a rumour. IF, Lesh or Weir do not schedule their own shows, they MAYBE might, MAYBE show up at the Music Hall and jam with Jackie... well, well, well, you can never tell... peace.

Hi! I am working on research for a film about DIY music venues, and in the process have stumbled across accounts of the Dead's 1967 "Great Northern Tour." I have read that this was one of the first instances of a major band financing an entire tour themselves. I do not know much more than this, or am I very knowledgeable about the Dead but I thought someone here might be able to answer some questions and shed some light on the history. Is there a board member I should talk to in particular? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Direct message me with any and all insights. THANK YOU -Sam

as I recall from postings elsewhere, Jackie Greene is doing HIS NYE shows at the GAMH those nights.

well well well, you can never tell. right NOW, Jackie is scheduled and tix on sale for the GAMH, 12/30 and 12/31/09 same same last year, Jackie WAS slated for the GAMH around this time, but once Weir and Lesh decided to play the civic center, Jackie cancelled the GAMH and joined in over there. last year, it was, however, around this time that Jackie cancelled the GAMH... so if there is no word from Weir or Lesh in the next couple of weeks, I wouldN't expect any dead / Phriends / DOg shows. the BIG factor this year, , Weir and Lesh are doing the Furthur thing on the east coast until 12/13... so who knows? maybe those boys will just want to take a well deserved rest... Weir got to rest up for the Jamaica thing, too. personally, I think there will NOT be any DOG or Phriends shows, but they MAYBE will show up at the GAMH and jam with jackie. (they did that before some other show a while back...) rumours still flying around... if there is any confirmation one way or the other, please let us know. likewise, I'll do the same. peace.

but with our luck (or mine anywhose..) it would be left over green beer from St. Patty's Day and for my money, one thing the world does NOT need right now (or ever for that matter) is a bunch of drunk monkies flying around sick on green beer. Hate it when that happens. The camp on Mem. weekend sounds nice BTW.

Hey now! New to the forums, but long to the vibe! We're traveling from DC/VA to CA for this summer's Mountain Air Fest!! Curious to know from other's who have been to this location- the Calaveras County Fairgrounds/Angel's Camp....should we expect it to be as large and as well outfitted as our (east-coast) All Good Festival, for example? Car camping probable if one arrives early? Bountiful food vendors, so as not to worry about cooking? Port-a-johns and pay-showers available? Kind friends? Mellow/safe vibe, despite the huge turnout? We'd love to know as much as we can so we can be well prepared to party! Thanks! ...and see ya'll west-coasters out east for the remainder of the Spring shows! This thread is pretty old, but I don't know if it's old enough to need wrinkle cream. Besides, wouldn't that just make our monitors look all streaky? Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.
