A lot of folks here are musicians and play in bands. Here's the place to talk about them. What kind of music you play, upcoming gigs, etc.
Grateful Dead music and Lightshows go together
Well, I'm not in a band... but I know some guys that are!And they let me do a lightshow for them. They are The Schwag, or may be known as 'Dead Ahead'. They have been interpreting Grateful Dead music for many years. I have been working with them for about the last 8 yrs. I shot on the main stage at their 5 yearly festivals, and in the Kansas City/Lawrence area when they pass through here. A great band and good friends - who also happen to play with Melvin Seals in The JGB Band!!!! (for whom I have also provided visual stimulation).
I couldn't find a short video of 'Cassidy' - so here is the first half of the set!!! Cassidy, Brown Eyed Women, Hey Pocky Way>Jam>Drums>Space>(Pt.2 begins w/ Doin That Rag). Hope you all enjoy.
And if YOU need a good lightshow for your band.... look me up!

Bald Grateful Dead Impersonator

https://www.facebook.com/baldgratefuldeadimpersonator
My first post...and it's just an advertisement for myself. Sorry. Anyway, I'm known as Bald Grateful Dead Impersonator. So far I have one subscriber on YouTube! I do have 232 likes on the Facebook page however. I'm just a huge Dead fan and I play Grateful Dead songs on an acoustic guitar as a tribute act. So far I've posted 18 videos of myself performing Grateful Dead songs on my YouTube page and I'm hoping to record ten more this weekend. I'm actually an accomplished bass guitar player, but as bass guitar isn't much of a solo instrument, I'm picking up acoustic guitar. I'm a bit of a goofball as I have more experience in musical comedy than in regular music, but I'm trying to take this reasonably seriously. Hope you check out some songs! And subscribe! Take care.
My Band-Venice Gas House Trolley

Yarn
I don't play in a band however if I did I would want to play in the band Yarn. They are my favorite band right now. Yarn is an Americana band from Brooklyn NY. They write their own songs and play their own instruments. They play every night of the week for anyone that will listen. You can Download a show from the archive, stream there brand new acoustic album which came out last week, find out where they are playing, read there BIO, or watch them cover the Dead or play an original song at the following links. Just wait to you see Andrew Hendryx play his Electric Mandolin. He makes that little instrument sing. The whole band has so much talent and chemistry.

New Hampshire Dead band seeks keyboardist
Hey..Established Dead band in Nashua, NH seeking a keyboardist.
We're ready to play out, just need to add some keys!
Peace
Thank You 26
Hi my name is Chris Dopey, Im 47. Been writing music since I can remember. I can't say i'm a dead head, but my Aunt did take me to a show as a child. Boy did she get in trouble. Boy did it open my ears. Because of that show I began digging thru her albums much to her dismay. I was blown away, not just by the dead. I found Rare earth the tower of power. These massive jam bands the sound was everywhere. Changed my writing style for life. I no longer heard a single instrument but multitudes in my head. But sadly those weren't the bands I could create at the time so I wrote for 3 and 4 piece bands. Though I still heard the full potential of each song in my head. I always wanted to write a dead song but I could never get that sound. When Jerry Garcia died I was learning box of rain from a song book. I thought it strange when I found out. I was learning a dead song when I got the sad news. So I went to the index of the book. Something happened I can't explain it, the song title began to tell a story. so I grabbed up my guitar and wrote Thank you 26 in 5 minutes. Ever since I wrote it I all ways wanted to get it to the band. Whether they liked it or not wasn't the point. I just wan't them to know how much there music influenced me. So here is my last attempt. And I'm fine with that. Anyone who wan't it can have it for free. Just contact me. and I will email mp3. Here is the the link for the slideshow on youtube. plz don't come after me for photo rights I took them from google images. And I am very poor you won't get much.

Cave Street
When I left Texas in 2007 I lost my band. I was thinking I'd need a name for my new musical project when I was driving through New Providence near Clarksville. I saw a street sign that said Cave Street and it stuck with me.
Six years have passed and in that time I've recorded dozens of songs and soundscapes, some on my own and some with help from friends far and wide. Currently, I'm participating in the National Solo Album Month Challenge.
I wouldn't say that my music necessarily sounds like the Grateful Dead, but without the Dead's influence my music would surely not sound like it does.
Cave Street music is a 'first take' experimental blend of modern folk sensibilities, psychedelic textures, and stream-of-consciousness lyrics.
Immersing yourself in this improvisation-minded music can be like entering another person's dream but leaving before it's finished...

Me and My Dreadful Grapes.
ONLY About~23 - 28 years ago, I was the lead singer/part-time percussionist for a (mainly-mostly) cover band in the redwoods-region called the Dreadful Grapes (our groupies/fans went by the name 'Grape Nuts'!). We had two guitarists - both of whom dosed before each & every show (I did NOT: Someone had to remember (to sing/) the lyrics; Jeff and Nick kept me 'on my toes: there never was a 'set' playlist.... they would jam after a previous song until (just like the Band) a musical sequence/ chord would 'pop up' and I (after dancin' with the audience off-stage) would hafta get back up there and attempt to remember the words ''on-the-fly'': which Wasn't That Easy to do! Just 'You Tubed' my old band's name (wondering if anyone had taped any of our shows): got an ''avant-garde'' fusion jazz-rock band somewhere out there recently: Cool!

Hi my name is John. I started playing guitar in 1966 when I was 15. I have always played rythmnguitar. Over the years I played on and off with various bands. Then a couple of years ago finally

after all these years of playin now takin lessons to play lead. Really getting into lead and my old
friend is now playin rythmn so basically two guys goin back to our old roots. Also when all
said and done we already check into recording a Cd. But I have learned over the years music will

Join the SLAP Jazz Quartet as they celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the founding of the Grateful Dead. The quartet will be performing a set of the Dead's music using jazz idioms and arrangements. Stormcellar from Australia send the love ahead of our 3rd UStour
Hey DH's, long time listener, first time caller. (lol)
I'm typing from my secret cave at the rear of my house in sunlight when you're at night. I'm also from the future. The future says Hi.
My first GD exp was via an underground comic that hipped me to them - but almost more important than the music, it established in my head that there was an entire group of people who had a connection to a band in a sense of community, not fandom. I think that's really cool.
Anyway, we're a band on our own trip, but one that might have met with some GD nod of approval in an alternate universe. In fact this could be the alternate universe. We can't really ever be sure.
Down here, in Sydney, we're part of a blues and roots scene. We're a bit nuevo, a bit retro and a bit mutant. Quite a bit.
We've been touring the states for the last two years and finding our way. We've found that same sense of connection in the mid west of the US and we're coming back this year.
I'm not super organised enough to have a list of dates etc, but i know we'll be in Rockford, Illinois 8/27 and in Indianapolis and Bloomington IN on the labor day weekend. Plus whatever random dates we can hustle LOL.
On behalf of your friends in the Stormcellar, i'd like to invite you come and experience another sense of community with us. We're powered by love, in search of the ecstatic and keen for a good time.
To peer inside our head go to www.stormcellar.com.au and because I can, here's one of our songs, written during our last tour, besides the Rock River, in Byron Illinois, and recorded at a studio about three blocks from my house in Five Dock, New South Wales Australia. Far out huh?
http://bit.ly/1ImqWmy
If this resonates with you, if you find us, be sure to come tell me.
Kind Regards
Michael 'MJEB' Barry

"Songs to Fill the Air" by David Bryan and Friends
hey now! doesn't seem like this page gets a lot of traffic, but just in case, wanted to share this with you all!
David Bryan, of David Bryan and Friends here! We were one of the "final four" of the covers project in 2015: http://www.dead.net/features/david-bryan-and-friends/dead-covers-projec…
In 2014 I presented a full-blown grateful dead concert in a NYC historic landmark church on park avenue (featuring Kenny Brooks from Ratdog on sax). it was billed as a jerry garcia memorial concert, and was sponsored by the Mid-Manhattan Performing Arts Foundation. we had it professionally recorded, and that live recording is now up on itunes and google play.
IF YOU LOVE HARMONIES, THEN THIS ALBUM IS FOR YOU!!! i hope some of you will check it out. :-) David Bryan and Friends performs regularly in NYC. I also have a band in NC doing the same music, with a different group of musicians: David Bryan and Friends, South.

gr8FLdüde & frenz - keepers of the flame in Atlanta, GA
Hey now! gr8FLdüde & frenz was formed in 2007 and has been performing throughout North Georgia on a regular basis ever since. Consisting of many veterans of the Atlanta jam-band scene, the band has become well-known for performing both on festival stages and "an evening with..." consisting of two long sets per show from a repertoire of well over 100 original compositions and cover songs (mainly comprised of Dead and Garcia tunes).
gr8FLdüde & frenz is the only band to perform at every one of the annual Jerry Day ATL celebrations.
Check out our FB page where you can check out some live performance videos from many gigs over the past 9+ years and stay in touch with what's happening on the DeadHead scene in Georgia as we are tightly connected with all of the Dead cover bands in the state.

Help On The Way?/Slipknot
Maybe I can shoot my distress signal here and someone will see it. I have lived in the foothills southeast of Sacramento, California for 27 years, and have not been able to start any kind of band, let alone one that plays originals, or any Left Coast music, like Quicksilver, New Riders, Airplane, not to mention the Dead. I am way beyond being totally exasperated over this issue. People here do Top 40, oldies and wine tasting stuff, and it's ALWAYS the same thing, over and over, and usually, not very good. (A lot of good people that I get along with, but no truly electric jams).
Over the last 5 years I have played solo acoustic (with occasional electric tunes) at the Jackson Farmer's market 2 or 3 times a summer. A lot of Dead songs - Bob & Jerry and even a Brent song one time - along with Allman Brothers, Jackson Brown, Paul Simon, Neil Young, David Crosby, CSN, Steve Stills, Hot Tuna, NRPS, Steely Dan, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell (Yvette in English) etc. I played Bob's "Only A River" on September 11th this past September. Anyone else trotted that one out yet? Even though, since 1966, my tastes have gone all the way from AC/DC and The Allman Brothers to Yes and ZZ Top. And "All points in between" - Zep, Stones, you know. (80's band in Ohio - Judas Priest, Billy Idol - on bass) - you name it. Sing and play. Both at the same time.
I bought new ceramic magnets for my guitar pickups, and learned a little about circuitry at the old Alembic store back in 1974. I talked with Tim Leary directly in Reno back in '92. I was working on a tugboat in San Francisco Bay the night of Bill Graham's helicopter crash. I worked on the pyro crew at the very last Oakland New Year's Eve show and met Mountain Girl that night. I saw Bob's Q&A in Angel's Camp at the Further Festival. I went to Terrapin in San Rafael last July 4th & 5th of 2015 for the simulcast, and Phil's brother-in-law sat down and had a few cocktails with me, and I have been there several times since then. I went to Wavy Gravy's birthday bash this past May to see the present version of NRPS. I personally wished Wavy a happy birthday. Steve Stills threw a guitar pick directly to me last June in Berkeley. I was right in front of the stage at Wheatland last June, alongside two other guitar pickers, to boot. I just talked with Steve Earl and met Shawn Colvin a couple of weeks ago. And I'm going to see Bob's Campfire Blue Mountain show in Oakland just a few hours from now.
Not a kid, nor a poseur - totally legit, and fully professional and employed full-time.
I am in DESPERATE NEED of a bass player and drummer who "get" a deep knowledge of the blues and bluegrass, have good skills and personalities, and can "swing like motherf----rs" in a jam. I've seen lots of this going on in Nevada City and Santa Cruz, but south of Sacramento it is not happening at all - it's a cultural wasteland. Musicians around here seem to think it's some kind of pathetic joke to do "hippie music", meaning, they are all about alcohol - period.
Not the fastest gun in the west, but ask anyone - I "sound really good". Not religiously respectful of the official recorded version of the songs, but I sure do know how to play 'em, and quite well, too. Better than a lot of the guys I've heard. And I write music, lyrics and arrange well, too.
Anyone within 100 miles of here?
Would it kill you to try?

Songwriting
I'm not in a band, but I am a songwriter. I write commercial pop and country music, which I realize is not what you'd expect from a Deadhead. My commercial songs are professionally recorded with studio musicians and singers. You can head some of my work at http://www.rowtown.net
I also write some singer/songwriter material for myself, which I don't have professional recordings of. I recently tried my hand at self-producing one of them, which can be heard at the above link. That one is called "When It Came to You".
