    3 Classics from the 80's
First off I'd love to see the release of 4-6-82 from the Philly Spectrum. Amazing show from start to finish. The best Shakedown Street ever!! The interplay between Jerry & Brent is telepathic. The WHOLE show is just killer! Another great one from this era is 6-20-83 Merriweather Post. The thunder show...an insane show played in insane weather conditions. High energy and very surreal...an incredible Sugar Magnolia. One other show that's sometimes overlooked is 11-21-85 Kaiser. A high energy barn burner from the get go.Rare numbers like Big Boy Pete and a second set that totally hits the "X" factor make this a must have show...amazing!

    Trick or Treat?
Alright, I've had this idea bounce through my head a time or two... i know, i know, a whole lotta people don't give a crap about Post-Brent but... 4 show box set of the Halloween run in 1991. That first night was essentially a wake for Bill Graham and included Carlos and Gary Duncan and the first playing of Mono since i forget when and (without checking out the setlist...) wasn't there another nugget of extra-special joy in there? Plus you almost can't beat a Sugar Mags to open a show! Jerry played his heart out for Bill... i felt like Jer was playing for no one in the crowd, only for Bill alone... it was quite moving. And if this ever comes to be, if I remember correctly there was an inbetween set, short speech, by Graham's son, i think, and if that was recorded it should be included, as well. Couple more shows thrown in for the heck of it and then comes the wham bam trick or treat Ken Kesey Halloween night Ahhhhhh-ooooooooooo Werewolves of London! Wrap the whole baby up with a Halloween theme and include an ode to Graham and an ode to Kesey, and folks will be glad to have some officially released 91 shows, i'll guarantee it! And for God's sake, don't make it a compilation... include every note! (Does 11-3-91 fit on one disc? If so -- hey, throw that in, too!)

Common or not, 11/7/87 deserves the full loving treatment of a CD release. And, if what I heard about what happened after that show was true, a good title might be, "Play it again, Dan." :)-- Yes it's me, I'm the pride of Cucamonga, I can see golden forests in the sun.

It seems there's been a CD released of just about all the old albums, but I haven't come across "Keith & Donna" from 1975. How about putting this gem out there for us... I have the record, but it sure would be nice to listen to a cleaner version. Thanks.

There were 2 shows in Jan 78 in which GD played all Weir tunes because Jer had laryngitis. He made up for it with his playing, and Weir did a fine job as front man. Huntington WV from April of that year is a good one too.Lots of good 93 shows - a couple at MSG stand out right now. I don't think there are any official releases from 93-95, are there? I'd buy a compilation of the best of Brent - a good Blow Away gives me chills, and I Will Take You Home is absolutely gorgeous. I have a bootleg, multi-gen copy of "Sunshine Daydream", the unreleased movie about the Veneta Or. 8/27/72 show. I'd love to see an official, remastered proper release! The Fillmore April 25 - 29 1971 run has already been released as a quasi-compilation, "Ladies and Gentlemen... The Grateful Dead" from Rhino.

The 2nd Set of this show is an all-time classic. Branford Marsalis played the whole set with the Boys, and he did not disappoint. One of the best Eyes of the World ever, and that opened the set!. I would LOVE to see this released.

10-9-89. Is that so much to ask? There's no 70's show that compares to this one. GASP!! DID HE REALLY SAY THAT?!Yes. Yes, I did. Jerry simply could not have played a solo like he does in the Death Don't until, well, 1989. Not to mention the Dark Star that will melt your ears off, because it's played by a bunch of guys who actually GOT BETTER OVER THE YEARS AS MUSICIANS. But I suppose we'll never see this penultimate show because the 'Stranger' is on "Without A Net." I guess I have to be content with my hissy soundboard that has a tape gen. Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile...frustratedly.

I agree with the above posts. Unfortunately, as far as 3-29-90 goes, the 'Eyes' is on "Without A Net," and the 'Bird Song' is on the "So Many Roads" box set, so it's unlikely we'll ever see the complete show, at least until the archives are made public for download right here at Dead.net. Isn't that why the powers that be made us stop trading soundboards online? Or was it so they can release one show a year and not have to worry about it being previously available? Hey, sorry for the caustic tongue, but somebody's gotta play devil's advocate! Or, at least, "he-who-doesn't-have-access-to-the-Vault" advocate! MaryE, keep up the good work here! You not only have a great job- you're doing a great job!

I take back what I said about no 70's show comparing to 10-9-89. I wrote that under duress brought on by the fact that very little has been officially released from '89 and '90. It was temporary insanity. I think I'm better now...somebody get me a glass of water.1-22-78 from Eugene would be a great release, 'cause there's a monstrous Other One and Jerry plays the 'Close Encounters' theme between it and St. Stephen.

10-09-89 is a fantastic show along with many others from '89. I see the above posters point. But have you listened to the spring of '78 ?? Like 4/10,11/78 4/12/78 , 4/14/78 and 4/15/78 to name a few.. For what it's worth, If there is any year that sounds like some of the monster years of the '70's it's '89 Lossless

My first show. Some 30 years or more until I got to hear any of it in pristine quality on Steppin' Out, and it would be good to have the whole show. Indeed, as Mr. Lemieux notes, ALL of Europe '72 was recorded onto 16 track, so how's about that spoof that went round a while back - a Europe '72 Box Set, with all related items - soundchecks, interviews, whatever - becoming a reality? It would sell like hotcakes JP

This show from Germany was broadcast live on TV and radio in Europe and features Pete Townsend of the Who jamming with the dead. You can find the show on various torrent sites.. Search under Grateful Dead 1981-03-28 Rockpalast Essen Why not an official release. I presume German TV has the tapes neatly filed somewhere!

JP - I'd pay whatever it would cost. How much would you pay? I just hope the ball is kept rolling. I love the idea of whole-run packages - beginning, middle, end - 4/07 through 5/26 would be a pretty good whole-run package! Nos vemos. First, I see lots of people talking about the '73 winterlands, we what about the 10/74 winterlands!?! I'm sorry the dead movie and steal your face just doesn't cut it. Every night should be put out on audio AND VIDEO Next the '90 garden run, the week long "Playin' In The Band" all the "Trio Jams" even "Cowboy Time" was good. And while we're talking about '90 that east coast spring tour ALL OF IT!! From Landover thru Atlanta. "Dozing' At The Knick" Is another release that doesn't cut it. And since all those shows were recorded for "Without A Net" in multi-track swell-ness there's no reason to let that stuff sit on the shelves. I also saw someone mentioning bringing back the downloads. Make all 4 nights from the "Live Dead"/"Fillmore West 1969 The Complete Recordings" available as downloads for the folks that would like to hear the stuff that's not on the compilation. 2/19/73 from Chicago features Phil going nuts during a Truckin' jam into the Other One, and should be released for all to hear his inspired and precision COSMIC DAWN OF AWAKENING (not to mention fantastic bass playing).

...shall we go, you and I while we can... Perhaps those multi-track masters could now be released since there's no record company issue. Rhino is owned by Warner Bros. Given the current release cost, 20+ shows would probobly sell for between $400 and $500. I''m sure that people would buy them, and each could be individually released, too.

While all the color multi-camera stuff from the summer tours has been fun. Let's get out some of the old stuff. I think I speak for everyone when I say I don't care if the footage is in black and white and only 1 camera, and there's only about 20 minutes worth of footage. If all that you happen to have from a show at the Fillmore is the last couple of songs, We'd deal with only "The Eleven>,Lovelight" or "Alligator>Caution" Put it out as bonus footage on a "View From The Vault" Check Out My Orignal Music at myspace.com/salaversano

The show i"d like to see again in its entirety was the Dead with Warren Zevon at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. It was the first Time I recall seeing anyone open for the Dead. Warren warmed everyone with his Music , Although it was probably close to 100 degrees on the field. I don't remember but I don"t recall any rain, unusual for any outdoor show in Colorado. Historically , it is one of the shows mentioned by Rock Skully in his book "Living with the Dead." Although I can remember many a great show (snippets of same at best) This one stands out to me because up to that point the Dead had been more of an attraction for a select few, Here, they were able to show that they could fill at least half a stadium.

Nice to see this forum back up... don't know what took me so long.... I love a lot of the suggestions for releases I've seen in this thread (especially the Melk Weg and Anchorage suggestions). I'd love to see: 1975 Box Set: Kezar 3/23, Winterland 6/17, and Lindley Meadows 9/28. American Music Hall obviously is already represented, but I think Kezar deserves to be more than a bonus disc. The box set could include more outtakes from the prolific 1975 recording sessions. 1985 matrix: How about mixing one of the INCREDIBLE sounding Oade AUDs from this year with clear-but-sterile SBD recording? I'd suggest 3/31 or 9/3. There is a precedence for the release of a matrix recording (the only 1992 Dick's Picks). 3/31/85 has that giddy rollercoaster feel to it (as the band was supposedly dosed by something that night).

I have to agree with Jack Straw about the latter part of 71'. Those shows were just unbelievable. They had those great melodic jams during that small period (far more enjoyable than "space" which those jams eventually morphed into. I would have to say from the fall of 71' through 72' were definitely their best years. From then on it was spotty, but they did have some magic later on. Some of 77' was great, the fall tour of 83' was pretty insane, 85' was a good year, the fall of 87' was rippin', and most of 89' was right up there with the best shows of all time. I say, just keep releasing whatever, as long as they keep coming.

I would really like to see some release of the original mix of AOXOMOXOA (which is way better in my eyes) and I only have a fairly beatup vinyl copy. Even if Rhino Handmade made this available it would be quite cool. While we're at it, why not put out the remix of ANTHEM OF THE SUN (which is probably not as good as the original, but it is very interesting) and I only have that one on a fairly beatup cassette. As far as shows, I cannot wait for an official release of 8/27/72. And I would take every EUROPE '72 show! (Actually I buy them all anyway).

How about releasing more shows in multi track surround sound? With video or without would be great either way. I absolutely love the Workingman's Dead and American Beauty DVD Audio discs, and the Closing of Winterland DVD sounds fantastic. I'd love to see more of this kind of stuff being released. Also, how about more video releases in general? There must be plenty of good video footage in the vault. I gotta agree with msgsec74, lets see some more of the older video! Even if the shows are incomplete, I'd buy them. And I'm sure that with all the resources that are available the video would look great by the time it got to DVD. As far as stuff from the later years, how about some DVD releases of some of the Mardi Gras and Chinese New Years shows from Oakland? Those shows sure were fun! And maybe some more DVDs of Jerry's shows? Please! I promise I'll be your best fan! ; ) OK, I'll stop begging now.

I really don't care where or when I just want more. I would suggest no more limited edition stuff as those of us with smaller incomes tend to lose out sometimes (Fillmore West 1969 box set) by not being able to buy everything the moment it goes up for sale. I would love to get the Winterland 1973 box set but I'm afraid if it's another limited thing I might miss out. I'm on a fixed income due to an accident and sometimes have to wait a week or two before I can buy something.

(I posted a lengthy reasoning why on this shows comments section.) In short, some of the nicest, best played, totally inspired, jazzy, high energy, heart opening music I've ever heard come from Jerry and the Boys! Jerry's guitar playing is simply the sweetest I've ever heard it and he was totally playing his heart out playing and singing most of the songs pre-drums. China > Rider . LL Rain . AIKO . DARK STAR > TERRAPIN Simply amazing! The C > R was peaking in so many ways. Jerry in LL Rain was out of this world. His guitar became the rain for sure. He played and sang the hell out of Aiko! AND the Dark Star is hands down my favorite and most moving single song and experience of GD music in all of the thousands of hours I own. Jerry is simply dancing with his guitar and plays the Dark Star theme on his guitar a couple of times in the song. Oh yeah, I was NOT at this show and just happened to come across a SBD of it along the way! Track it down, give a listen and you'll know what I mean! Sending Love, Brother Antonio

I mention only wanting to see the 2nd set released because the 1st set seemed like a totally different band was playing. It was uninspired and seemed to struggle along. Something magical happened during intermission (that I will not dare to speculate on) which really lit the boys up and they were a new band for the 2nd half!
