They were spelled correctly on the original release...don't know why this alternate spelling shows up.

i tend to agree with you it seems awfully expensive for what it is. That said it may go for a lot more on the secondary market but then that isn't why i buy anyhow. It would have made a nice box set to have in one go. Plus the posty do like to fold the envelope in half!

This would be a great series if I owned a juke-box. But I don't.

I want it...but do I need it....I have a turntable....but will I listen to them or just add them to my digital library. What to do....if it were $34.99 I may not feel like I'm throwing my money away. Picture discs are fun though. I don't know what to do....

At the top of the page it states that these will be pressed on coloured vinyl. No mention of picture discs. Maybe that makes the decision to buy or not to buy just that little bit easier.

Would be interested if each one came in a different picture sleeve. Any information on that? In my opinion, that's the aspect that would make these things worth collecting. Would really appreciate a word from .net on this. Thanks.

From what I gather, I would guess 7 inch will be placed in a generic clear sleeve with some sort of slap / sticker (Stealie logo on product page) and with no limited edition number / foil stamp. And yes it should be a price drop lol ,, $36-40 would be more accurate for a 7 inch , especially with 10,000 units a piece

I am pretty stoked with the single concept. $12 is actually the going rate for a record day release single. As a long time vinyl collector who has some 45's I realize I probally won't play these babies too often. Most high end turntables require you to change the plater band. So I tend to go on an occasional 45 binge before adjusting it back.I do hope they will be in a sleeve with some art on it. Some Beatle and Rolling Stone 45's in original picture sleeve are worth well into the 100's $. Not for everyone but I have no doubt there are 10,000 of us crazies that will gobble these up.

only difference is RSD are produced in way fewer units, most rsd 7 inch are 1000 to 3000 units , a good amount priced at $10 for rsd there was a 7 inch priced at $15 and even shop owner said it was high for a 7 inch , only 1500 units total now if these were in fewer units , say 5,000 each or even like random number with hidden significance 6595 , than i would say maybe its priced accordingly but 10000 units per 7 inch is a lot. I think Rhino thought this was a good idea because there was / is a recent buzz about vinyl , probably not enough buzz with a huge group of deadheads , especially a lot of the new fans think its crazy to pay for music when they can download for free or go to Spotify app , which i dont do either of them , plus a lot of the new target audience probably does not own a record player I will be very interested to see more details on packaging , sleeve , artwork , etc, and if it sells out , I am still on the fence

I am in total agreement with all of your points. Definitely way too high of a run for 45's. 5,000 is more than adequate & they would still have inventory to sell being that $15 per record is a lot. I have bought a few RSD 45's in the past. Hendrix Foxey Lady/Fire at Miami, Deep Purple Black Night & the Peanuts theme Vince Guraldi Trio. They were priced from $8 to $11 in store & had really cool sleeves. So to ask someone to pay $15 plus tax, plus $7 shipping on this site is pushing it. I hope they sell them in stores, otherwise $24 for one 45 single is crazy. I am on the fence as well....

They weren't a singles band. The Who, the Stones, Otis Redding, folks like that--those singles collections are more interesting; they did things that were only initially released on singles, they made EPs, etc. The only really unique singles here are the first and the third, and the second is sort of historically interesting and actually a good 45 pairing. But the fourth is of no interest to me, and reissues of most of their 70's and 80's singles don't have a lot of appeal, IMO. I would buy Stealin' in a minute as a stand alone, I would consider Dark Star and I'd probably buy a one time set of the first three or even all four if I had to. But the subscription model and the whole enterprise seems like overkill.

They may not have been a singles band, but they are one now. Hence the subscription. Whether we like it or not, the dead have a whole new generation of fans and it is my understanding that the new generation has brought the vinyl market back to life. If the dead doesn't satisfy that demand, someone else will. I think it's a fun idea, so I'm subscribing.

"the dead have a whole new generation of fans" , correct and "it is my understanding that the new generation has brought the vinyl market back to life" , correct , however the new generation buying a good amount of vinyl are not buying a lot Grateful Dead vinyl. if you want to know where the new fans are listening to GD , it is not from record shops, its from streaming services, apps, satelite radio, downloads, or passed down cassette tapes. Grateful Dead has some official release vinyl and bootlegs that can be found in store/online, but i am sure the new age fans will just go to spotify or the new "re-listen app" LOL , the new fans are not shelling out money for recordings , they will throw a fat chunk of change to attend a festival and things associated with festival, but not many new fans are actually paying for a specific GD release. Most of the new fans are thinking its all about the "miracle" , they dont want to pay for stuff

I'm a 35 y/o fan and have been into the band for 20+ years. As recently as 10 years ago, while living in NYC, the Dead were still not considered cool, save a few notables like Greg Davis and Radar and Arthur Magazines. I frequently had to defend the group against those who had no basis for their antagonistic opinions. Fast forward 10 years, I no longer live in Brooklyn, but I was there recently, visiting a hip record store where a friend works and I couldn't believe how many people were browsing the Dead bin and bringing their records up to the register. My friend said it's very common now. Music fans of all ages finally seem to better appreciate the band's free-form musical expression and democratic process, probably the result of tastemakers, like all the bands who contributed to the Day of the Dead tribute album, signing off on the Dead as cool. So it's definitely true many people want it free or close to it, but those who buy music are buying the music.

Dear folks at dead.net, I'm sure you're all very busy at this time of the year. But it seems to me that the question of how these are packaged is one quite a few fans on this forum are wondering about. Will the singles come in unique paper picture sleeves? For me, that would definitely be a reason to subscribe. However, if in the end I have a bunch of singles in red, white, blue or green, the next series in purple, pink, brown and yellow, and then more of the same the other way round, all living in clear plastic sleeves, I'm out. If you could provide some insight, we would all very much appreciate it. Cheers from Germany Romas

Oh man I always hear the same digs on the young-uns but damn, weren't the baby boomers the first Deadheads in the 60's complaining about "why are the shows not free anymore!? Strike and boycott, protest, give us free shows again!" I bet the wax roll music recorders produced by Edison were the big complaint then! How come no one buys those anymore?

It's a shame that many new fans arent buying the records/ cd's that are out there nowadays... I'd consider myself a newer fan (within the last 12 or so years) but im collecting everything a can find. Especially vinyl and CD's. Theres just too much good stuff already out there to ignore. I understand that the streaming is way more convenient and a hell of a lot cheaper (especially for the Road Trips series, holy shit) but collecting is half the fun for me.

I remember when a buck bought you a single in a plain white wrapper. But it sounded pretty much the same.

I got back into vinyl collecting 7-8 years ago. New 180 gram reissues and anal retentive Dead, Zappa and Stones collecting all versions. For example I have 13 copies of Zappa's We're Only In It For The Money. That includes my original 1st edition to promo to Brit variations etc.etc. I have the complete 1st issue British Stones Decca Collection non lp singles eps and lps. So I have maybe 250 singles. I have no desire to get up every 2.5 - 3 minutes so I bought one of the small portable record players. I bought a 20 ft. rca cable and when the feeling strikes (not very often) to play a bunch of singles I put it next to me hooked to my stereo open a Sam and go back to 1965

This will mark the first time all of the band's commercial singles have been officially illustrated! Our first release, the 1966 debut "Stealin'" b/w "Don't Ease Me In," will feature illustrations by longtime Grateful Dead collaborator Tim Truman. this just made my decision a lot easier. his cover art work for Dave's Picks Volume 5-8 is top notch i missed on the Dave's Vol 6 tee shirt featuring bonus disc cover art , if any one can help with Size Large or XL, I would be very interested

4 Singles for $11.00 each is another robbery from the Dead. It's getting ridiculous all these "special editions" I wish they would just select great shows that don't include the 90s.

Seems these are NOT the original singles, so unfortunately I had to cancel the order (which requires a call-back from India - we'll see if it works). With the confirmation e-mail came a digital of the supposed 1st single. But it was, instead, the versions from Birth of the Dead (I compared it to the original single & btw the matrix has Don't Ease as the A-side). One would presume they are just going to press edits of album versions and NOT the original singles, some of which have remixes and reverb - for example The Golden Road 7", which was not the album version (and the reason I ordered as I assumed it would be the first re-issue). Not sure why the lazy shortcut. Presumably the audience are Deadheads - the one group that can tell the difference.

It's also worth pointing out that the true 4th single was Uncle John's, as Dupree's was only pressed as promos and never released.

Since you seem to have your underwear all in a bunch and are splitting hairs, a promo is short for a "promotional single." A promotional single is intended for limited distribution to radio stations and media sources ahead a coming commercial single. So ya there's the fact they are both still singles. So I guess if we really want to be specific they are releasing us the singles in order regardless of commercial availability at that specific time of release. Cheers!

I thought it was exclusive to dead.net, it certainly is on colored vinyl. lol even has the clear sleeve with Stealie type sticker, pretty sure that was one of my questions/concerns mentioned in a previous post my other concern is are these numbered ? If not, there is really no way to say how many units are out there..? The Dave's Picks series are numbered, but also there are promo copies with no LE on them, so what is it really limited to ? it would go a long way to put the LE number on each one of the 10,000. Foil Stamp or something

This is one of the first times I placed an order on Dead Net & kind of feel like there is a strong chance I may regret it. Hopefully there are quite a few of us that have ponied up for this but I fear there is not. It's definitely a bit too expensive for only 4 single 45's. And with a hefty 10k run I get the feeling we will be seeing these from other vendors at 6 or $7 or whatever it takes to move them. Hoping for the best as I love owning vinyl.

I don't own a record player anymore but even if I did this sounds really dumb. Overpriced for GD "stuff" that really doesn't make a difference for one that wants to feel groovy, listening to a show. I'm gonna pass on this wallet draining endeavor. Thanks for nothing.

Dave not trying to be a wise guy but Dark Star/Born Cross eyed , u.S. Blues/ Loose Lucy and Throwing Stones/When Push Comes to Shove were picture sleeves. The thing is when a record company decided to put out a picture sleeve it was often a 1st and only run. The other thing was for many releases in Europe they did picture sleeves. That was not the case with the above 3 all were printed in the U S. Keep hunting that's the biggest part of the fun
