WHAT DEAD HEADS HAVE BEEN SAYING ABOUT...

    NEW HAVEN 5/5/77
"Here is a prime example of the saying ‘the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’ … It’s called synergy and the Dead wrote the book on it.”

    BOSTON 5/7/77
“The music they laid down brought me places I had not been before.”

    BUFFALO 5/9/77
"...an awesome display of the Dead’s captivating power"

If you've been following this site for quite some time, then you will know we are often flush with hyperbole when it comes to our releases. We can't help it, really - for we, like you, are Grateful Dead fans above all else. Just like you, we've spent countless hours debating the merits of show over show, year over year. We've kept a watchful eye on your wish-lists and carefully considered how to make - excuse the cliché - your dreams come true. And once we've made our commitments, we are steadfast in our determination to conjure up those dreams fully-formed and nearly perfect. Sometimes these heights cannot be reached without physical and cosmic elements aligning, and that, dear friends, is why it has taken so long for us to bring you THE ONE and the epic shows that surrounded it. No need for even the slightest embellishment here, 5/8/77 Barton Hall, Cornell University: Ithaca, NY, has for decades, been THE resounding favorite; you've said it yourselves - the "holy grail" of Grateful Dead shows. Thanks to the passion and perseverance of Dead Heads like you, we are beyond pleased to finally be able to present this show and its brethren, the fabled four of Spring '77, in sonically pristine condition.

Limited to 15,000 individually numbered copies, MAY 1977: GET SHOWN THE LIGHT is a collection of what is unanimously believed to be the most sought-after previously unreleased complete shows the Grateful Dead ever played. Collected, traded, and debated for decades, "the beloved Golden Trinity" of Boston, Ithaca, and Buffalo, along with their New Haven prelude, have inspired fans to "get on the bus," converted critics, and even garnered national attention (Cornell was added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry). But until now, you've never really heard them quite like this!

The Dead is in the details... how serendipitous is it that the notorious Betty Boards were returned to the archive just in time for the 40th anniversaries of these shows? Lovingly sourced from these well-reputed recordings, we invite you to experience four utopian shows just like they happened, to "be inside the music" as engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson intended. Whether you listen to each night on its own or imbibe the whole lot at once, we suspect you'll hear why every note mattered. Much like we were, you will be hard-pressed to determine which of these fine documents - will it be the understated but nuanced New Haven, Boston's festive fantasy vibes, the monumental catharsis of Ithaca, or Buffalo’s dreamy exuberance - is truly "the best." Does it really matter? We think not.

Due May 5th, we anticipate that this revelatory boxed set will sell out. Your best bet is to pre-order it now, then sit back, relax, and enjoy all the exclusive content we'll be rolling out over the next few weeks.

Looking for something a little more byte-sized? The collection will also be available for HD digital download in FLAC and ALAC, exclusively at dead.net, on release day.

In my experience, single disc players have been better than changers, simply due to mechanics and the cheap plastic parts used in low end players. Both will likely sound the same but the single disc unit may likely be more reliable in the long run.

Looking to get a new CD player and from what I have seen and read for my price range, around 150ish, Onkyo provides good quality product. I have also seen that name pop up frequently on these boards. The thing is whenever I look into reviews I see everything from 5 star, wow love it, to 1 star, broke within a month. Was wondering if anyone could share opinions on these products, specifically the Onkyo DXC390 6 Disc CD Changer and the Onkyo C-7030 Compact Disc Player. While I would obviously prefer a 6 CD player to a 1 CD player, it is also cheaper. The 1 CD player was ranked a little higher. Any insight or opinions would be very helpful. Thank you.

...but the Dark Star from 2/24/74 is a treat.. and its 43 years old today. ..and boblopes, enjoy your time basking in the sun. I drifted away from most pro sports when the owners starting taking cities and municipalities hostage to pay for their stadiums.. but I passively notice what's going on. What I noticed this year is that the Patriots have garnered a disproportionate amount of bad will when you venture outside New England. Anyway.. it does feel good when the home team wins, no harm in enjoying it. My dad used to take us to Baltimore Colts games when I was a kid.. The Steelers were it back then much like New England is today. ah..the 70's. :D Have a good weekend all.. Now.. what to play today? I think in honor of the first day of summer here.. a killer Weather Report Suite > mayhem might work nicely.

Dark Star Today [the talk show] Today's Installment: 6/24/1970, Capitol Theater https://archive.org/details/gd1970-06-24.late.aud.harlan.9330.sbefail.s… So, this is the last of several of 1970's Dark Stars that I unearthed last weekend. It's an audience recording, as I understand no SBD exists due to Bear being in the clink. Even so, this is a very good capture of the sound in that hall. Furthermore, one must actually SEE this sequence to understand what will be found when listening: Dark Star> Attics of My Life> Dark Star > Tighten Up Jam> Feeling Groovy jam > Sugar Magnolia> Dark Star> St. Stephen> Chinacat Sunflower> I Know You Rider And that's just one sequence (and this link is just for the late set - the entire show can be found via other links, inclusive of the New Riders set). The Not Fade Away is raunchy and energetic and melds like buttah beautifully right into an even raunchier Easy Wind. And who doesn't like a raucous Easy Wind??? Another notable mention is the Sugar Magnolia that appears in the middle of the sequence above; this is a super-proto version and you can tell. it's quite brief and I actually had to go back and listen to it again just to understand what was going on. It's a fun moment amidst a mind-blower Have at it! Sixtus P.S. glad to hear The Mower has been returned safely. It seems it's had some galactic and cosmic journeys just in the last 12 hours. Good call on finishing that roach too; I assume it was laced with stardust at that point.

I listened again to the Rolling Stones UK Between The Buttons album after reading a 1967 Jerry Garcia interview in which he praised the album. I remember the first time I listened to it I was on acid and really got off on how the song Something Happened To Me Yesterday was an apt description of discovering the LSD experience. Something happened to me yesterday Something I can't speak of right away Something happened to me Something oh so groovy Something happened to me yesterday He don't know if it's right or wrong Maybe he should tell someone He's not sure just what it was Or if it's against the law Something Something very strange I hear you say You're talking in a most peculiar way But something really threw me Something oh so groovy Something happened to me yesterday (Yesterday) He don't know just where it's gone He don't really care at all No one's sure just what it was Or the meaning and the cause Something (What kinda joint is this) (Take your partners) Me don't know if it's right or wrong Maybe he should tell someone He's not sure just what it was Or if it's against the law Something Someone says there's something more to pay For sins that you committed yesterday It's really rather drippy But something oh so trippy Something happened to me yesterday He don't know just where it's gone He don't really care at all No one's sure just what it was Or the meaning and the cause Something Someone's singing loud across the bay Sittin on a mat about to pray Isn't half as looney As something oh so groovy Something happened to me yesterday He don't know if it's right or wrong Maybe he should tell someone He's not sure just what it was Or if it's against the law Something [spoken] Well thank you very much and now I think it's time for us All to go. so from all of us to all of you not forgetting The boys in the band and our producer, Reg Thorpe, We'd like to say "God Bless". Oh, in the drink holder I found the small end of a ticket stub, looks like it was from 03/24/1970 and a small roach. I decided to smoke the roach, in case the cops read these threads.. I don't want any evidence hanging around that could jeopardize my eminent run for Senate. Very strange.. Edit: On a separate note, the Senator appears to be missing.

I don't want to simply pile on a frustrating and deplorable situation. Like many others I've been trying for HOURS to get my pre-order in to no avail. I would only hope that somehow all those who have attempted purchase or have this item in their respective carts are not be left out. I think that's the least that should be done. What a shame to have this fixed only to come back in a day or two to find out you got shut out.

I'll also give up ... It's 1 am in Sweden and I have to get to work "tomorrow". Most of the time I'm thrown back to the shopping cart. Three or four times I have come as far as to fill in my name and address, my card number and everything. But when pressing the last button I get an error message or being sent back to the shopping cart. I'm too tired to spend the rest of the night trying to make a sucessful order. I've tried to order it throught Mozilla Firefox as well as Explorer but that was even worse than my Google browser, which is the one I have used most of the evening. Micke Östlund, Växjö, Sweden

Called to only get disconnected after 16 mins, email them and they sent back saying sorry we are having issue check back later.

I had the same thing happen with the DaP subscription. The only way I was ever able to order was to use my ipad. I called customer services earlier today when I placed my order. The guy asked what was wrong with the website. I told him the things that are now happening. He said, that they have been having issues with the site. They are aware, but that does not really help anybody. If for some reason, one of my failed orders come through. I will post. Not sure why they feel this is the best business model. But hey, I don't run the zoo. Best of luck everyone!!

They should shut the shit down and try again tomorrow rather than having people continue to seek the fn holy grail like this. This is more aggravating than buying tickets from live nation. I think it is crap how there you enter your address all on one line and the sever has all these addys stored and is crashing because the whole thing is stupid from the start. I think the dead should be giving a nice discount on this time waster. So so so so pissed

These guys are like, say hey lets sell you some music you might like. So now I will be up all night just trying to buy the music. I can not because you sell to dealers over me a fan. I have a EBAY account and know what this stuff can sell for. But for you, selling it to dealers on purpose makes you scum. Nobody should be able buy more than, lets me say 4 copys of a release. After that or even knowing that has happened you should see some flags. There are real DEAD HEADS out there that lived through this stuff for real. SHUTTING THEM OUT SHOULD BE A CRIME. As we know crimes are not justified all the time. I have spent the last 4 hours just trying to buy 1 box and 1 Album set. People who sell 10 to a person or buy 10 for a person mess this whole process up.
