"When we began discussing audio projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead back in 2012, we knew we wanted to do something completely unprecedented. We could think of nothing more exciting or ambitious than a career-spanning overview of the band's live legacy focused on what best tells the story: complete concerts. Our first criterion was the very best live music to represent any given year in the band’s history. We wanted to make sure that there were not only the tent-pole shows that fans have been demanding for decades but also ones that are slightly more under the radar, but equally excellent. For those who listen to the entire box straight through, chronologically, the narrative of the Grateful Dead's live legacy will be seen as second to none in the pantheon of music history." - David Lemieux

We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Shows will NOT be sold individually on CD. This release is sure to sell out quickly so pre-order your copy today and stick around as we will be revealing a mighty fine selection of music, art, and much, much more right here.

(Looking for a smaller 50th Anniversary commemorative keepsake? September 18th will see the release of a four-CD version of the collection titled 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN: THE DEFINITIVE LIVE STORY 1965-1995. More on that here.)

Yes, they obviously have an army full of temps in a crowded room somewhere near Burbank 5 floors below the vault trying desperately to clean up yesterday's snafu. Lots of orders were freed up the last couple of hours, I bet some in error. On a positive note, I don't see this thing selling out for a few days, so as long as the coffee in the room with the temps holds out, everyone should be able to clean up the loose ends of their orders. ______________ And please to all, stop with the politics. Most of us didn't come here to listen to Hannity and Mathews square off over useless tripe.

Same story..... my good ordered got canceled when I call up and they left one of the orders that was stuck in limbo to be the good one. Needless to say, after the last dead.net email, I checked order status of my one remaining good order. Sure enough, that one was cancelled as well. Call up Customer service again, they said they couldn't reinstate the order, but could make a new one for me. I don;t want to see how may charges are pending now on my Credit Card. Hopefully this will be it for ordering this box set. Course I said it the last time as well.

    All music edition?
Any word on if there will be an all music edition like E72, once this sells out, or like E72 more expensive a la carte? I really want this, but with the cost of the flights to Santa Clara and Chicago not sure I can afford it at the moment.

If you are anti-box set, then don't buy the f-ing thing. What the hoo-haa is going on with all this negative stuff about the box set? If y'all would have listened to me from the onset, you would have known the magnitude of this 50th Box and prepared accordingly. Also, if I hear/read one more post about "GD era battles" I will vomit in my mouth. Come on f----ers...there is plenty for everyone in this box. The "Brent-era Folks" are relentless, especially after getting the entire Spring '90 Tour released. Maybe it's a cultural "all about me" '80s-'90s thing (and the '80s-'90s is when I grew up, so don't accuse me of bashing an era I don't understand). Also (and likely not appropriate for this board), stop it with the political ramblings, especially with the bashing towards MinasMorgul and his correct views on violated American freedoms (e.g. forced government-derived health care). By the way, don't buy anything the government is selling, especially if it is "mandatory").

I called Dead.net back and well..
I called Dead.Net back (and I did get an order number when I was on the phone originally) and the order was supposedly good, until I got this email: "Thank you for your recent Grateful Dead “30 Trips Around The Sun” order. The Grateful Dead community’s overwhelming response to this release resulted in some technical issues you may have encountered yesterday. We apologize for any inconvenience and confusion this may have caused. Our records show that you have submitted multiple individual orders, which may have been a result of yesterday's technical difficulties. In order to avoid multiple charges, we are going to keep only the order for which you received a confirmation email; any additional orders will be cancelled immediately. If it was your intention to place additional orders, you will need to return to the store and replace those orders. Since supplies are limited, please do this as quickly as possible to ensure that you reserve your copy." Well my intuitive sense was correct, the Dead.Net phone person should have left my good, confirmed order intact and not canceled it, because right when I received that email I went in and checked both orders (canceled order and good order)and now they were BOTH canceled (since the Dead.Net CSR originally canceled my good confirmed order). I ask to talk with a supervisor, and he tells me he can reinstate one order but it could take 10 to 15 hours or more to do so. I was not satisfied with that answer, since things where so screwed up to begin with, so I ask him if I place another order will I get a box (since they are telling me they are selling very quickly). He says yes, but he really wants to reinstate my order, because there have been issues with credit card declines due to the numerous multiple temp charges people have been getting due to their system issues. I said, I don't have an issue since my credit is good, and just to be safe I will use a different credit card than the one I used for the two original orders (suspect order and confirmed order). I am assured that my two canceled orders will stay canceled.... so I merely went in and placed a new order for the box. In the end all is well, I should get one box (hopefully no more than that).

Ah now I see it. I didn't realize that there was a different product description page just for the flash drive. I'm honestly surprised that the flash drive isn't a little bit cheaper than the physical box set.

This offering from 30 Trips is a classic Bruce/Vinnie show! The whole fall 1990 tour really. For a band who just hired two new players this tour has some mighty fine moments. New York to the UK and more! Good stuff!
