hmmm A Euro tour would be most cool. I agree with Bob, no way they would do 11 shows in the UK. but, an 11 show Euro tour... (licking my lips) London, Wembley, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Frankfort, Hamburg, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Prague.... at this stage in their lives, i think it is a matter of "where do we want to go and play" type of thinking for the band. I think the only rumours of a Europe tour I've heard recently, were the ones I started a few years back. here's hoping!!! ( -; peace.

those are the venues where they HAVE played. I'll go see if it's acting weird, but I don't think in this case the past is a predictor of the future. Dang.

maybe this is just some form of tally which suggests the number of venues that are possible for the dead to play - but i do sincerely doubt that there are only 9 venues in the UK where they could play (and one is not even the NEC). It would be great if they did play here.. last time i saw them was Chicago 92 or 93... of course that was pre-Jerry demise... wierdly enough, i just stumbled across a copy of High Times that i bought which featured Jerry following the news... oh the memories...

The strand is on this site! Follow the links: Shows and lyrics and then venues by location... you see a whole host of locations: US, UK, Netherlands, France, Jamaica... etc.. not sure how good this thing works.. even when you select venues in the US, you get the whole host of Alaska, Illinois, etc... but when selecting them, they go..uh... nowhere.. again... so, either someone has set this up with an intention of populating (and hasn't) or it's just a mistake... have a look.. just to prove i'm not going crazy.

Got really excited there for a mo... i'm a expat chicagoean living in the UK and saw that there seems to be some news about a european tour (including 9 dates in the UK). Unfortunately, when going through the tours by venue section.. United Kingdom.. London.. it loads.. uh.. nothing.. anyone know about UK tour dates? toddmonster

Chicago Cinco de Mayo!

Our first show!We were really lucky to obtain tickets. I logged on the moment the site opened and at the same moment the site went down due to an overload of requests. Then I realized how immensely popular these guys still are. Not the several hundred people that are visible on Dead Net but many thousands more. We booked tickets for the Chicago 5/5 show. My brother lives in Chicago so we could combine a family visit with a Dead show. Two worlds apart! We went early and strolled around on the parking lot. This was what we always wished that we could be part of. So many friendly people. All the different tie dye shirts. The mounting anticipation as the show got nearer. We spoke to many beautiful people. They all reacted surprised as they heard that we came from Holland to attend the show. See my photo's in the section Tour Images. Everybody told us that the shows were awesome and that the band got better with every show. We had good seats in the balcony where we could see over the entire crowd. The downside was that we could not see the performers very well. I missed big screens. The sound was loud and clear but for the voices. Where we sat the words could not be understood. The entire show was terrific. There was a good light show. The set list was great. The audience was fantastic. Everybody was dancing. They sang along with most songs so that the singer sometimes sang close harmony with the audience. They cheered the band as the jams were developing. Great music. When we left the stadium we had attended a wonderful concert. I have ordered the downloads of this show so that we can hear it again and again. We did not expect this show to be like the ones that we have on cd's and dvd's. The band is just not the same. We went for the audience experience. This time we were part of that. For us this was a dream come true. Ship of Fools

Given my own lack of innate musical talent, or sufficient discipline to acquire playing skills, I always admire - but don't often listen very long to - amateur cover bands. However, DHSerbia, having just completed your entire 6/12/16 set on utube, I'm tremendously impressed. Your collective musicianship, communication, and emotional conncetion with the music warrant a greater, or louder, audience than the 4 people who audibly applauded. In particular, let me say that I kept waiting for familiar instrumental landmarks to "Cocaine", but got none. That intro is fantastic, but led me to believe that the setlist described below the video must be incorrect. Still, when the vocalist sang the all-too-familiar, "If you want go out...", I realized the band was putting it's own imprimatur on the classic by infusing it with a slower, bluesier feel across a broader instrumental palette. Well done! Were you stateside and local, I'd be a groupie. Perhaps when back in Holland later this year I can plan a trip to the (other) BBC!/peace, Katherine

Deadnik , there are some heads here in Austria , you will meet some at local summer festivals called " Lovely Days " in Eisenstadt and " ClamRock " at Brurg Clam. You will see some at concerts of Gov`t Mule , Warren Haynes ( as he is the only Dead related musician who plays most every year here in Austria ). Another fine scene is the " Arena " in Vienna.Unfortunately there are no Gatherings here ---- Austrian Heads are the one to grow their collections at home and play them to their friends... cheers , Erik

Since then I'm a big fan of the Dead. I have a huge collection of CDs and DVDs of concerts, Books, first printing poster t-shirts. Now, I need a miracle and Dead & Co are welcome in Europe ...

The atmosphere is hot tonight, boulevard des Italiens in Paris: the Grateful Dead will give its second concert in Paris, as part of its European tour. But if the atmosphere is electric in the streets, it is mainly because dozens of young people demonstrate and fight against the CRS to claim the free rock concerts.

The Olympia Room is a classic music hall, with its rows of tight seats against each other, and the balcony overlooking the stage - and where I'm sitting tonight. Really uncomfortable to dance. But the music, irresistible, seizes the body and, like many others, I spend a good part of the concert to gesticulate, standing, wedged between two chairs.

I dance like crazy on a Good Lovin 'furious. The musicians have no look, there is no stage play, nothing to do except Pig Pen, his hat, his look, his mouth. But after a while I do not listen anymore, I focus my attention on what the musicians do behind him. They weave wefts, they ornament, they open paths and then close them, they are discrete or roar, it seems endless, and the rhythm, always the rhythm that catches the body, makes them vibrate, the music that becomes colors, red sounds, mauve sounds, and it whirls, a real party for the head and the body.

So many songs played beautifully, tonight! From the first title of the concert, Greatest Story Ever Told (very energetic) to Chinatown Suffle, Playing In The Band (played, it seems to me, on a tempo a little slower than usual), Big Railroad Blues (where Jerry launches riffs as rarely) and so many others. Until that Dark Star, which I did not know and which appeared to me in all its magnificence, a waving and swirling sound wave. Never heard!

Graceful acrobats, subtle tightrope walkers, the musicians, fire in the veins, give, this May 4, 1972, a magnificent concert, not resembling anything I had listened to until today. Probably, one of the best concerts of one of the best tours of the Dead. For my part, one of the three biggest concerts I've attended in my life, and the biggest rock concert.

Great review, Alain. This show is definitely one of the best, if not THE best, in the box set that came out a few years ago. I was fractionally too young to catch the band in 1972-but that was the time to see them. One of them..

Belgian deadheads

Hi guys
I'm a belgian deadhead born after jerry died. Me and my girlfriend went to the states for half a year in search of the scene, and in search of the music. We were so surprised to see and feel how alive it was, one of the most beautiful moments of our lives! Saw a lot of shows that took me to that place, met the loveliest people and i'm so grateful to have experienced it. Now we're back in belgium for a while and i have literally never found one single other deadhead in belgium than the 2 of us. It's so weird not being able to talk or dance to, some grateful dead and jerry tunes.. so this way i'm trying to connect with people from belgium or even europe who are deadheads, i never met one in europe anyway, and i wanna play their music, the scene has to come to europe, europe needs it, and i just really miss it :)
