August 1st: Meet-Up At The Movies

Join us, won't you, as we celebrate what would have been Jerry's 75th birthday with the music and magic of the Grateful Dead on the silver screen. A special one-night-only cinema event, the 7th-annual Meet-Up At The Movies features the previously unreleased July 12, 1989 RFK Stadium concert. Spoiler alert: the rare first set contains at least one song sung by each of the four lead singers, not to mention a terrific show-opening rendition of “Touch Of Grey.” And the second set? It kicks off with a very uncommon second-set opener, “Sugaree,” two songs with Bruce Hornsby sitting in (“Sugaree,” and “Man Smart [Woman Smarter]”), plus one of the only video recorded versions of “Black Muddy River.”

"Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies: RFK Stadium 7/12/89" will only be playing for one night! Come out and connect with Dead Heads in your neighborhood on Tuesday, August 1st at 7:00pm local time.

Tickets are now available at participating theater box offices and right here.

    Totally enjoyed it!
I agree, the telepathy between Jerry and Brent was great... I would imagine that Brent must have had "a less than positive discussion" with his wife earlier in the day, or moments before hitting the stage... That had to be the most "passionate" Far From Me I had ever heard :-) He was a little intense there at the end... and you could see the band members looking over at him smirking, shaking their heads as they all knew the deal... it must have continued during the break because the Man Smart/ Woman Smarter 2nd set opener had more of the same... Jerry gleaming over at Brent "the women are smarter that's right, that's right!" LOL... I would buy the DVD just to see that interaction again, no doubt. Anyone else pick up on this or am I way off? Anyway, thanks to Nugs.Net I will be projecting Jerry's 75th Birthday Celebration from Red Rocks in my backyard... Hope you all get to enjoy, looking forward to Bobby's campfire band performance... Peace, iGrateful

    Mix Sucked
Went to "Meet Up at the Movies" Tuesday night at the Cinemark West in Plano Texas and was appalled at the mix. Sounded like the guys were under water. Couldn't hear Phil at all. It cleared up for about a song and a half midway thru the second set, but generally was a huge disappointment. I know there's a lot that can go wrong during a simulcast, so I'm curious. How did it sound in different parts of the country? Was I just at a bad spot or did others hear the same muddled mess I was listening to?

    I agree marye
Though my buddy and I comprised a quarter of the audience, I rather enjoyed it. Production values way high and they got it right at the theatre. I liked Jerry sportin' Wolf during space and there were no lulls. Thanks PTB. Great event. Hope a DVD turns up for those who didn't attend.
