This year's submissions period has ended. Check out all the great performance with the Official 2016 DEAD COVERS PROJECT playlist.
Whether you play just like Jerry or like to give the Grateful Dead's beloved classics a unique spin, the 2016 Dead Covers Project wants you! We're calling all musicians - near and far - to share your love for the music and magic of the Dead through video. Show off your musical chops and you just might find yourself front and center on Dead.net during the month of February! The rules are simple - all video submissions must contain a song either written by or recorded by the Dead. How that song is interpreted, however, is entirely up to you.
Upload your video to YouTube, tag it "DeadCoversProject," and we'll make it available to view on the band's official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/gratefuldead. Can't carry a tune? Join the fun by "liking" your favorites on YouTube.

There are some Karaoke covers of Dead tunes. Mostly Truckin and Casey Jones. If you dig hard you can find Big River, some traditional blues. The Mars Hotel Out takes has about the best Scarlett B Karaoke/instrumental version I've heard!
How about a sub category for next years Cover Project to include a Karaoke award? Sorry singers, take the backup position. Let's build up a home made Karaoke library!!!

How do you get the nice YouTube links to show up here? I just was able to post the URL that isn't really a link. ANy help would be greatly appreciated!
Q:. Where's the list of all the featured videos so far?
A: Coming in next month's March Madness, where you'll be able to watch and rate the featured clips. Starts mid-March.
Meanwhile, if you want to see all the clips submitted so far, go here.
Having a lot of trouble with this site. There appear to be links to some of the videos but not others. Refreshing the page doesn't help. However sending a ''reply'' message to the posts with no links telling them their link is not visible and then returning to the page for some reason forces the llink or video to appear. I feel like I'm being punked. Weird problem.
I have solved the links/videos problem and it was on my end, kind of. I use an iMac computer and thus have Safari as a default browser. Now I know for sure, Safari sucks! I switched over to my Firefox browser and lo and behold, videos are now loading as they should. If you're having trouble with the videos not loading use Firefox.
Last question/comment. There seems to be conflicting info on the tags. I read somewhere that the tag should read DeadCoversProject2015 and then I read here that the tag should read DeadCoversProject (no 2015). Can I get clarification on this?
I also think I saw somewhere that the tag should read Dead Covers Project 2015 (shown with spaces).
Sorry to be such a pain in the bucket!
Syrup is a Jamgrass band out of Cleveland Ohio that has opened for Melvin Seals, Railroad Earth, Dangermuffin etc and is gaining momentum in the Region. We recently recorded with Jam Turtle TV.
Hope you Enjoy the Video, and give us a like if you do!

DAVID BRYAN & FRIENDS: Brokedown Palace at that church band!! WOW to another coverJust wanted to say I really admire your work. So original compared to everything else I have seen. Where are ya'll based?
Do you have a youtube page or anything?
MUST see this band!!!
or should i just call you by your first name, "the"? or mr. or ms. begonia? :-)
thanks SO MUCH for your kind words! we are based out of NYC. if we can ever find funding, we would love to go on tour! where are you?
if you want to send me your email address, i'll be happy to put you on our band listserve, for gig info. ALSO, we did a FULL LENGTH concert (featuring kenny brooks from ratdog) in that church last august! and we had it professionally recorded. that should be out later this year, and we'd send out an email about that as well.
thanks again for your enthusiasm. i really appreciate it.
cheers,
david
Tried posting a YouTube link for the first time here and this is how it turned out. Not optimal, for sure. Any hints on how to get a better transfer of a link? I used the embed feature on YouTube and this is what it gave me.
Just gonna give this one more try after the poor outcome of my previous effort below.
This song is dedicated to the homeless of the world and all those who work to ease their pain.
Are we supposed to be posting videos here on our own? Or are we only supposed to post on YouTube and tag properly? Do the videos then somehow make their way over here? Still confused; guess I'll just listen to the music play!
is post them, properly tagged as above, on YouTube. That's what gets them into our queue from which Featured videos get selected, etc.
A lot of folks take the additional step of posting them here (use the embed code on YouTube), which is nice too.
I was able to upload it to YouTube, tagged as "Dead Covers Project 2015", but have no idea how it gets to the site here. Any beta would be appreciated, thanks.
@dave williamsTo post your video here,
- go to your youtube video,
- click 'share' down just below the title of your video.
- click the 'embed' tab just below that, when it pops up
- copy that text, and paste it into a comment here.
To officially "enter", you'll need to 'tag' your video. To do this...
enter the 'video manager' in youtube,
and add these tags to your video
DeadCoversProject
DeadCoversProject2015
DeadCoversProject 2015
Supposedly only the first one is necessary, but there was some disagreement about it last year, so I tagged all three, and it worked.
Cheers.
This song is also dedicated to all the loved ones we have lost along the way.
Though not technically a cover, I hope it can be included in the Covers Project.

Rest Now in Peace We Will Carry Your Tunes
After a whole lot of head scratching I figured out that if you're on a Mac, don't use Safari, it just won't work as it should. As soon as I tried Firefox everything got easy.
I found the same issues using Safari on Mac. Firefox solved all my problems, too.
By the way, I've found some awesome musical nuggets among the videos here and found a way to convert them to MP3 for my iPod so I can listen in my car. The URL below will get you there.

I'll be adding some of the Covers Project music permanently to my iPod! Lovin' the submissions by all. Tons of fun. Thank you to all the good people taking the time to manage the rabble!
