Your fourth and final DEAD COVERS PROJECT pick Noura Al-Mat won us all over with her lo-fi rendition of "Ramble On Rose." Turns out, she's got more than a few Grateful Dead favorites. Find out what being a Dead Head means to the multi-instrumentalist and listen to her other classic covers here.
Tell us a little bit about your musical background.
Ever since I was a little youngin', I've been singing. I love it. I remember we would have nap times and my parents would be so frustrated because all they heard coming out of my room were my songs. I learned to play the flute in 6th grade, but I went no further with it. I dabble on the piano a bit, and I've been playing guitar since I was 13.
You've performed covers by everyone from The Black Keys to 4 Non Blondes. What made you decide to cover the Grateful Dead?
Over the past year I've discovered a lot more Grateful Dead songs and I can say The Dead is my band of choice, so I felt the need to honor them.
How did you decide upon "Ramble On Rose" for your Dead Covers Project performance?
I was looking for a nice sweet song that I could do, and "Ramble On Rose" came to mind.
What can we expect from you for the rest of 2014?
I'm currently recording some covers for SoundCloud, and there may be a few more videos here and there.
