Week of October 6, 2008
This week's archival post features an August 2008 interview with Donna Jean Godchaux-Mackay, recalling the Dead's 1978 trip to Egypt. She talks about how amazed she was to learn the band was going to take this trip and how it felt to be there, and she tells some wonderful stories about a trip down the Nile after the shows. And more!
"It was so much fun to be in such a vastly different culture, and dig on it, and appreciate it. And to this day I still want to go back to Egypt so badly; it's so in my heart. And so I'm hoping that one day that will come to pass, that I can go back there."
The music is from Road Trips vol 1 no 4: From Egypt with Love, taken from a five-night run that the band played at Winterland after they returned from Egypt.
By the way, Donna Jean is hitting the road this spring with The Donna Jean Godchaux Band with Jeff Mattson. I'm looking forward to hearing them at SpringJam in Missouri later this month. Enjoy!
