Grateful Dead Hour no. 1817
Week of July 17, 2023
Gary Lambert and I were hired to host a series of interviews that were shown on nugs.net between sets of the 2023 Dead & Company tour (as we had done in two previous years. Here is link to the complete archive of Dead Air interviews, going back several years.)
As a result, I got to watch every show on the tour, with spectacular camera work and a brilliant audio mix.
On June 24 at Fenway Park, the post-drums jam was a thrilling mashup "Dark Star" played over the "Big River" groove. And a few days later, during the first set in Noblesville, Indiana, the band played "Big River" again - and at the end, they rolled right into the second verse of "Dark Star" - still playing the rockabilly groove of the previous song.
Lambert and I interviewed both Bob Weir and John Mayer for Dead Air, and we had a chance to ask both of them about these and other magical moments of collective creativity from the tour. You'll hear bits of those conversations in this GD Hour.
Enjoy!!
