Wow, isn't this one Doc and others have told us about? David Gans says the complete unreleased show will be in the 4 installments. And it's got a Cumberland. Some nice filler too (with a Cumberland).
Cheers
Edit: Very meh on the '71 for me but I liked Hunter's Roses done bluegrass style. Nice modern Cumberland too.
Bangor '71
I think next week has the "microphone monitor level test" followed by a a kick ass Hard to Handle. I had this as a random piece of filler way way back in the day without knowing where it was from. The level test is some pretty funny banter and the H-to-H that follows is solid rocking version, in my mind back then maybe second only to 8/6 Hollywood Palladium.
I don't own Rum Runners (reported) and Hunter's version of Roses really intrigued me - had a mountain music bluegrass vibe to it that I would never have guessed. Really beautiful.
What really floored me in this episode was the last cut on the show - the Cumberland Blues that Dead and Co played at Oracle 7/16/23. It truly kicks ass - absolutely ripping version. There is a section where Chimenti's keyboard work just amazed me and all through it Mayer is seriously tearing it up! The Cumberland I saw at Boulder 7/1/23 out of Stephen rocked out, loved it- this version out of Days Between(!!) I think is even hotter. Ganz comments on the second set placement the D&Co gave Cumberland and how they jammed-it-out as a 2nd Set tune. Totally agree. Awesome stuff. Highly recommend to all Cumberland freaks.
