    Bob Weir has collaborated with The Waybacks many times in recent years, including a kick-ass "Weirbacks" set at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in October 2006. I like this band a lot - they're wildly inventive musicians, and they have a reputation for doing interesting things at music festivals. For example, their recent appearance at MerleFest included a performance of The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers with guest John Cowan.

    Here we have some Waybacks and Weirbacks from Merlefest 2006, plus a great take on "Cumberland Blues" with fiddle giant Darol Anger, and a track from the band's then-new CD. Their latest is Loaded.

    Great Dead Hour
    I always loved the country/cowboy songs that got mixed into the Grateful Dead. The ElPaso's, Mexicalli Blues... and such.... Guess I am kind of partial to the cowboy and swing songs... and I have a lot that influence in my past... But that is what I really like about the Dead, they throw country/cowboy, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, and about every other type of music into the blender... And it is stuff like this hour that brings some of the country/bluegrass style to the Dead.... Love it!!!! Take care cheers Woody www.myspace.com/woodyinthebasement
