Week of August 14-20, 2023
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1971, 1972, and 1973, three great years in Dead history.
Our first stop this week is on 11/15/71 in Austin, TX, where we have the second set featuring Me And My Uncle; Ramble On Rose ; Mexicali Blues; Brokedown Palace; Me And Bobby McGee; Cumberland Blues; Sugar Magnolia; You Win Again; Not Fade Away> Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Not Fade Away, Johnny B Goode. Rare for 1971, there is no Other One or Dark Star in the second set, because even rarer, Dark Star had been played in the first set.
Next up is the terrific sequence of Truckin'> The Other One> Brokedown Palace from 11/17/72 in Wichita, released as part of the Dave’s Picks series.
Lastly this week is some great music from 11/20/73 in Denver, the first night of a two night run, where we have Promised Land > Bertha > Greatest Story Ever Told ; Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo > Dire Wolf ; Looks Like Rain ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
