Week of December 2-8, 2024
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1979, 1980, and 1981 from the beginning of Brent’s years with the band.
Our first stop this year is the start of the second set from 12/11/79 in Kansas City, where we have Shakedown Street> Samson And Delilah; Ship Of Fools ; Terrapin Station > Lost Sailor; Saint Of Circumstance> Jam.
Next is music from Long Beach, CA, on 12/13/80, where we have the end of the second set: Space> Not Fade Away> Black Peter > Sugar Magnolia, One More Saturday Night.
Lastly this week is the end of the show from 12/9/81 in Boulder, where we have this classic sequence of The Other One > Stella Blue> Around And Around > Good Lovin', US Blues>Satisfaction.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Nice to hear the band adjust
Sounds like the band is pulling the reins on Brent till almost the 3 year mark. Just shy of. Just based from the 3 years being presented here. The Boulder show Brent is playing his signature organ beats along with the electric piano. Seems like when they get back from a Europe tour things tighten up. After the 30 days I can see a pattern going on here. I get the impression the 2 philly shows will be highlighted in January. 01/05/ and 01/12/79 _Keith _ were barn burners. All of the tapers shows do not pick up the bass on either show. Live it was like being hit with thunder across the chest on Sugaree and Jack Straw. Both openers. Hope there are plans for a Spectrum set like the St Louis deal. Early Brent is being eyed up. WE had the Easton show at Kirby hall. Like Brents 5th show. Baltimore before that. Tapers section and Jam of the week are as close as Dave can get to showing us where he is at in the vault. He uses our feedback to see what direction our reviews point him in. Love the Tapers section as they are cleaned up nice. A few drop outs but, It's the GOGD. Thanx threeAces for the tip.
Thanks for sharing, David
This week's selections are a real treat—especially the Shakedown Street from 12/11/79 and that classic Boulder 1981 sequence. Brent’s early years with the band were truly magical, and these picks highlight his contributions beautifully. Looking forward to next week’s gems! 🌟
