Week of January 23-29, 2023
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from three distinct, and excellent, periods in Grateful Dead history.
Our first stop this week is from the second show of the Spring Tour of 1977, on 4/23/77 in Springfield, MA, where we have this great sequence of Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower > Around And Around > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad> Not Fade Away, One More Saturday Night.
Next is the start of the second set from 5/1/81 in Hampton, VA, where we have this sequence of Feel Like A Stranger> Franklin's Tower> Lost Sailor> Saint Of Circumstance featuring three of the “newer” songs (1979 and 1980) that appeared on Go To Heaven a year earlier, plus Franklin’s Tower.
Lastly this week is the start of the second set from 5/3/91 at Cal Expo, featuring only Vince on keyboards, as Bruce was absent from these shows (although he was present a week earlier in Vegas and a week later at Shoreline): China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Estimated Prophet>He's Gone.
Be sure to come back next week for more music from the vault.

Outstanding 2nd set sequence. So many good things. Like 9 minutes into it Bob and Keith are doing amazing things I've never heard in a H-S-F. And the jump into overdrive in Around has epic Jerry, then the quick shift to GTRFB. All in all just about but not quite exactly perfect.
Cheers
