Week of June 1-7, 2020
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1972, 1973, and 1977.
From a couple of days into 1972, on 1/2/72, when the Dead decided to leave their equipment set up at Winterland after their 12/31/71 New Year’s show to play a show to start 1972, we have the start of the first set, featuring Truckin', Sugaree, Mr. Charlie, Beat It On Down The Line, Loser, Jack Straw.
Next is a trio of songs form Madison, WI, on 10/25/73, on the second leg of the Fall Tour of 1973. Wake Of The Flood had been released only 10 days early, and the Dead were playing the new material quite a bit on this tour. From the Dead’s second trip to Madison in 1973, we have El Paso, Row Jimmy, Playing In The Band.
Lastly this week is the end of the first set from the excellent 4/25/77 in Passaic, NJ, the first night of a three night run. From New Jersey, we have Lazy Lightnin' > Supplication; Ship Of Fools; Estimated Prophet; Brown Eyed Women; The Music Never Stopped.
Be sure to join us next week for more music from the vault.
