Week of May 22-28, 2023
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from three distinct eras in Dead history: 1972, 1988, and 1991.
Our first selection this week is two of the Dead’s longer improvisation vehicles from 1972, featuring Bird Song, Playing In The Band from 8/25/72 in Berkeley, CA, just two days before the famous Veneta, OR, show.
Next is the entire second set from 8/26/88 in Tacoma, WA, at the Tacoma Dome, where we have this classic 1988 sequence of China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Playing In The Band > Uncle John's Band > Drums > Space > Touch Of Gray > I Need A Miracle > Black Peter > Turn On Your Lovelight, Black Muddy River.
Lastly this week is the very cool and unique second set opening sequence from 8/18/91 at Shoreline Amphitheatre, where we have Deal; Samson And Delilah; Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo; Feel Like A Stranger.
Be sure to stop by next week for more music from the vault.
