"Cause it's always like that with the Dead, you know - it's always the whole thing." - News Journal

As we close out the 2019 Dave Pick's series, we deliver on our promise to give you the "whole thing" with the complete performance from The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA 3/24/73 and what a show it was! An upstanding "musical eulogy" to the recently departed Pigpen, the Grateful Dead conducted a potent study in contrasts on this bittersweet night. They found easy balance between tidy jams like "They Love Each Other," "Wave That Flag," "Playing In The Band," and introspective moments on "Stella Blue," "Sing Me Back Home," and a poignant "He's Gone." It was all laid down with a discipline and a polish unheard of in any of the truly exceptional shows that had come before it. Yes, you might say, they cleaned up nice to carry on the legacy as Pig would have wanted.

Limited to 20,000 numbered copies, DAVE’S PICKS VOLUME 32: THE SPECTRUM, PHILADELPHIA, PA 3/24/73 has been mastered to HDCD specs from the 7" and 10" reels by Jeffrey Norman.

    Still waiting for DaP 32…

Still waiting for DaP 32. Over time, you should learn to be patient over here in Europe. The strange thing is that now and then, dead.net teases us with a super fast delivery (DaP 30!). But then that's immediately followed by something like the DaP 31 disaster, just to put things back into perspective. (I still can't understand why UPS couldn't sort that out properly - "Well, we've got the same problem with orders from one single company. Do we really have to deal with these cases individually? Do we really have to send all of these to our lost & never found again nirvana?") While I was waiting for the Giants Box, I honestly thought about setting up tent in front of my local UPS pick-up point. But then, I'm a high school teacher and students passing by might have found that a little odd.
Anyway, a great year for releases. A great year for variety. Love the Jerry releases as well ("Electric on the Eel"! "GarciaLive 11"!). And there is even one more to come. Skipped three years of Dave's Picks after buying Boxzilla. Back again in 2019. And a last minute early bird subscriber for 2020 (what a relief that was). Whatever may come, it won't come without new Dead music. If there's one post I will remember from these boards in 2019, it will be KeithFan's about "the true malady": "I had what I thought was enough Dead."

I have just watched the first episode of this, and am very impressed. The photography is beautiful and much of this music and history is unknown to me. This episode featured The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, and towards the end of the programme they showed stills of musicians influenced by Jimmie Rodgers. Great big pick of old Jerry in there !
Tempting to go fishing..and the JSP 4 cd boxes of the 1927-early 1930s years seem the best bet for both artists.

Bear Family may be the best...certainly the most exhaustive reissue label for American music that I have come across..but their 12 cd Carter Family might be a bit tough to digest.

Back to my own personal good old days tomorrow... seeing Hawkwind for about the 50th time. Crazy!

That Playing in the Band>Jam>Mind Left Body from 12/2 is one for the ages.

The only release that both starts and ends with a Morning Dew.., one big MDew sandwich I suppose. I liked the second one better. Funny.. my memory is that this sounded a little muddy and they got crisper as Jeffrey Norman added to his bag of tricks, but my memory is a funny thing. I don't lean on it very often for good reason.

    Hey.. DVikes, check your pm.

Also, this just in.. free livestream for JRad tonight. I you haven't checked them out before, try and fit it in. They have a hard-driving, high-energy approach to Grateful Dead music. They can catch fire when planets align just right.

Don't forget Dick's 14 from 11/30 and 12/2. Not full shows but really good shows and the sound quality for this release from 20 years ago is awesome. Kind of surprised me when I went back to have a listen to this one last week.
Also spent some time with the Dave's 25 yesterday from November 77, man I love this show, so great and the banter back and fourth is classic. I still think this one is better than the Colgate show, energy just seems different. Can't wait for DeKalb!
I still don't have Dick's 34, the Rochester show from the same tour.
I would be interested to know how this one stacks up against The Colgate and Binghamton shows. I think the PA reel on DP 34 gave me second thoughts.
    Peace!

Tom Brady and the Patriots are truly charmed. 90% of people on earth live real lives. 99% of sports teams live the reality of a kick in the balls from time to time. Not Tom and his buds.

Charmed. The only word to describe it.

Except that time they had their perfect season crunched. THAT was cool (for a non-Patriots fan).

    But really. Charmed. Unbelievably charmed.

Hi All,

As of yesterday a replacement copy of Dave's Picks Volume 32 arrived and was in mint condition. It took 3 months and a few contacts to customer support and Marye, but I've finally got it and that may mean there is some hope for others that may be waiting on an initial or replacement copy of this installment.

One thing to mention. It is a numbered copy and a low one at that -- #544. Seems kind of odd that this Volume 32 sold out and I'm getting one that is numbered. This is not a complaint, but just saying...

A BIG THANKS to Marye for her help on my issue because I am sure it was her inquires to The Doc that made this eventually happen.

Good luck to all that are still waiting for a Volume 32. Hopefully, Help Is On The Way!
