How come phish can go to the same venues and sell tix for half as much? their both capable of selling them out, so whats the diff? Willie nelson's playin in greensboro same venue and the high end tix are 75. All im sayin is if you look at the venues the dead are playin and look at some of the tix prices from the other bands, it can be held cheaper than what their askin. Granted some bands are asking for more, almost seems like their more expensive for nostalgic purposes just cause they have been around. To me it just seems to go against the philosophy the dead once stood for. sorry for being in a bad mood about this but im bummed i can only afford to go to one show now itstead of 5

Let's compare entertainment dollar values: NHL Hockey (Los Angeles Kings): A small number of tickets sell at $24 (obstructed nosebleed seats); standing room admission is $46; everything else ranges from $75 - 280 per seat. NBA (Lakers): obstructed nosebleeds at $10; everything else skyrockets to a peak of $2,600 for courtside. (Clippers) same except for priciest tix cap out at $1,350. This is PER GAME. All of the Kings, Lakers, and Clippers home games can be seen live on TV, which makes me wonder why in the hell ANYBODY would pay ANYTHING in order to fight downtown traffic, go to a crappy neighborhood at night, pay big bucks to park, and shell out $9 for a beer. The national touring company of The Phantom of the Opera is coming up at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles with ticket prices starting at $29.50 (FAR back rows in balcony) and going up to $126.50. In New York, on Broadway, Disney's The Lion King ranges from $61.50 to $121.50; Wicked is going from $50 to $110; a Saturday performance of West Side Story will run you from $45 to $120 (and more, for "premium" seating). Even a regional touring company musical production is pricey--I shelled out $65 (top price) per ticket to see an excellent touring production of RENT back in November (their cheap seats--WAY in the back of the balcony--were $38). Granted, I recently saw Johnny Winter (with two decent opening acts, over 3 hours of music in all) at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA, for a paltry $25, but despite Johnny's status as a rock/blues deity and Woodstock veteran, he can usually only draw about 200 fans to a gig these days (which is a crime--he is still an incredible musician). The days of the $4.50 ticket are long gone. Sure, the band COULD have chosen to play football stadiums and kept ticket prices down to $25 each, but that would have been a BIG gamble, because any venue that ONLY sold 25,000 tickets would be a money loser for them. Big concerts are expensive to run, what with the venues charging FAT rental fees (they could afford lower rentals back in the days when arena concerts were so common that a venue like The Forum would be in use over 300 days per year, but "big" concerts are rare these days). The ticket prices for The Dead are based on the band needing to clear a profit at the end of the tour, and it is probable that they have taken out a bank loan to cover the costs of renting all of those halls at once, hiring all of the trucks, renting whatever stage equipment they need to add to their setup, purchasing LOTS of insurance, and guaranteeing the wages of the roadies and supporting musicians--if that is the case, then a condition of their loan could very well be a minimum ticket price to help guarantee repayment. All told, they are probably looking at a net profit for the "core four" members of the band of about $10 a seat, assuming about 80% ticket sales at each venue. That's $2.50 per individual (they'll clear a lot more if all the shows sell out). It's quite conceivable that Warren Haynes (and maybe even Jeff Chimenti) will pocket more money at the end of the tour than will Bobby, Phil, Mickey, or Billy, since he's probably hired on at a guarantee per show rather than taking a slice of the pie. Hell, it's even possible that the individual members of The Dead will LOSE money on this tour, if all the ticket whiners boycott the shows, because THEY have to guarantee the payouts, and it's probable that the break-even number will be around 70 - 75% of capacity sales. Remember--100% of capacity sales is IMPOSSIBLE, due to the hundreds of promotional (radio giveaways and promoter freebies), courtesy (friends/family of the band) and press tickets given out at each show. This isn't Madoff, and it's not Exxon/Mobil. It's The Dead.

They will give you a password to use to get tickets before they go on sale to the general public example .. If the password if Obama ... You would log onto Ticketmaster tommorrow and then insert the password where they ask for it and then purchase the tickets like you normally would..If you don't have a password it won't allow you to purchase tickets in advance

It will be real fun trying to wheel and deal tickets here at work where everyone and their mother can see my screen. I wish I could come in late tomorrow morning and just do everything from home. Oh well...guess it just adds to the excitement right?!?!?! Less than 24 hours to go!!!!

I'm toying with coming late as well...I have the time so it wouldn't be a prob, the only thing is that my home computer tends to lag and freeze up...not all the time but it would be luck to freeze up in the middle of a transaction. But the more I think about it, the more I"d like to just do it and get it done without having to minimize all my screens and worry about getting caught. Good idea Brother!

All bosses should let everyone come in late tomorrow or, use one of your best excuses of why you will be late or absent. I mean come on, this is a priority. Then, make sure you have all your excuses ready for the shows too. May the four winds blow you safely home. Excellent choice...I should of taken today off also..I can't keep away from this site and I honestly can't wait until it is all said and done tommorrow and I know for sure if I get seats..There is alot of traffic on the forums which tells me even though not posting alot of people are getting tickets..Looking at other threads it doesn't seem as though there is alot of traffic on these forums but hopefully that will all change and people can state connected throughout the tour

GDTS too will accept mail order starting "postmarked" tom. and ending the 20th. No credit card orders this time for this tour, prices are posted there as well, is worth looking at. I'm gonna see what this presale stuff is all about here but will stick with ol faithful mailorder.

We should all just do mail order and leave ticketbastard scratching their heads. (i know its not possible but would be nice.) I guess I like knowing that my money is going directly to the dead, and not some bully. See you at the show! (was going to be more, now just one. but what a one it will be!!) :) Have Love and Keep It - Patrick

I know they're scalpers, but how can they sell tix that aren't even on sale to Deadheads yet? If you go there, you can actually select sections and rows and buy the tix. I tried (just for the heck of it) to see if I could buy tix for the Mountain View show and it let me go all the way to checkout. Weird. I will certainly wait until tomorrow! See you there.

The only downside to mail order is the interminable wait to find out if you got tickets and where they are (and for those in groups >4, the uncertainty about proximity to friends). Beyond that, mail order is reliable, peaceful, appealingly low-tech (to me, anyway), and perhaps more likely to result in good seats, in that fellow deadheads are processing your order rather than an impersonal piece of software that techheads undoubtedly understand WAY better than I do. Frankly, I'm skeptical that there will be an on-line pre-sale, but like many others here, I'm registered and will be prepared to do the 'plastic thang' if it looks reasonable. Otherwise, I'm confident that GDTS will get their share of the pile and have good tickets to dispense. Sure wish Ruby hadn't retired, though...she'd always took good care of us, particularly if we took a little time to decorate the envelopes a bit. In any case, gang, try not to let the prices ruin the moment. I know money's tight for most, but if $100 is too much yet $50 is okay, doncha think you'll find a way to make up the difference...somehow? Eating regularly is overrated, anyway ;-) ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` One man gathers what another man spills...

What you're seeing is the result of a sale strategy that almost all venues subscribe to. Essentially, a ticket agent purchases a block of tickets to ever event, guaranteeing the venue that it will move those seats, no matter what. The ticket agent is therefore able to offer those specific seats to any given event prior to the tickets actually going on sale. "When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose

Aha! That makes a lot of sense. So, I'm guessing then that the seats you see listed on these scalper sites will not be made available to Dead fans when they go on sale tomorrow. Jeez, these guys run the world, don't they? Hoping I don't 'need a miracle' tomorrow. Aloha.

104 Users and 512 guests online right now !!!!! methinks tickets will go fast.. I joined the Rolling Stones fan so I could get the presale password for there last tour...I got on ASAP and still wound up in the nose bleeds..I asked there ticket rep if there was really anything left for when they went on sale to the public and he laughed and basically said no.We should all be thankful that they didn't make us pay to join the fan club in order to get the presale password.. Alot of bands do that to make aditional money

DarkStar77 - I think you may be correct. I saw a post earlier in this forum that said it would be 9:00 WEST COAST, which if you're in central makes you 11 am, and me on the least coast at NOON. Gotta say here that I almost dropped my guitar when I saw the prices. Was going to take my 20 yr old son to L.I., MSG, IZODS, and the Spectrums (I'm 25 miles south), but I may have to drop off Nassau and MSG.

Are you kidding?ADDITIONAL MONEY?These prices make them just like every other tired old no longer original membered band that overcharges for the tickets to their shows!$99 for a ticket to the Spectrum? When the schedule came out we were going to go to like 5 shows at least(just like in the past) but with these prices that would be $500/person.How can anyone afford to do multiple shows? For the price of 2 shows we could almost buy Bonnaroo or Rothbury tix and see SO many bands(and the Dead may even be there too)We have just decided to skip this money grab and be happy with the Great Memories of tours past. - Weav

Hey guys and girls, This is my first post so I hope its not a dumb question, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any possibility of another Dead tour, maybe even a continuation of this one during the summer. I want to buy tickets but the two days they're in my area (PA) I have my finals so I can't make the shows in good conscience. Any news at all, even some unsubstantiated rumors would make me feel a little better, haha. Thanks.
