I'll believe it when I see it. If you google "winterland," "1973," "rhino" and "grateful dead" or some combination thereof, you find some interesting postings, many going back to the spring of 2006 when someone found a backdoor into dead.net and supposedly saw something about a soon to be released Winterland '73 box set. Someone copied what they "found" and it looks just like the Fillmore West 1969 box set. It all could be a hoax.

Looks like one of our vines may become redundant soon. Someone on Eurotraders noticed this on the Spin CD website in the UK Grateful Dead - ' 'Winterland 1973: The Complete Recordings' (9 CD) We've just seen this as a UK release on a Rhino schedule for May 5th. More news when we have it.

2 new vines in the works
The first one will be more fall '73. I have nice copies of a few shows (12/8, 12/12, 12/18 and I believe 9/11) and Richard has hooked me up with 9/26. Someone requested October '73 but the couple shows I received from "that guy" from that month just aren't up to snuff sound quality wise. I refuse to put less than stellar discs into circulation, especially when A SBDs are known to exist. I want to keep this vine a little smaller, maybe 3 shows, with 9/26 being one of them. Does anyone have an opinion as to which other 2 shows they'd like (choices above)? The other vine will be either a May 77 or Fall 77 revisited vine. I have nice copies of 5/28 (this show is a MUST have), 10/6 and 10/28. I need someone to help me out here. If we go with May, I'd like to include 5/4 and 5/17 (both shows I have, with the former being less than stellar sound quality wise and the latter having gaps). Anyone want to contribute A SBDs of these shows? If we go with the Fall, I'd like to include either 10/12, 10/15, 11/4 or 11/6. I have 11/4 but with gaps and some sound problems, at least at the beginning. Anyone want to contribute one or more of these shows? Opinions welcome.

I'd like to plant a new vine. 3 fine shows from the fine Fall '77 tour. 9/29 Seattle, 10/14 Houston and 10/29 DeKalb. Everyone has probably heard of the DeKalb show and a lot of people may already have it, but the other 2 are a little less widely circulated. I believe that all 3 shows are gapless and I will burn them on I-Tunes to maintain the continuity from track to track. One quick caveat, the 9/29 show starts off a little weak sound quality wise as Betty did not flip some switch or something (see Taper's Compendium for story) until just before Grow. The Franklin's Tower that ends the first set alone makes this show worth getting by itself but the second set is great as well. First person PM their address. 'Nuff said, here is the info from Deadlists. 9/29/77, Seattle, Paramount Theater One Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo [9:19] ; Mama Tried [2:39] ; Deal [#4:16] ; Looks Like Rain [6:36] ; Ramble On Rose [6:59] ; El Paso [#0:31] ; Sugaree [12:#30] ; Let It Grow [9:30] ; Franklin's Tower [16:42] Two Samson And Delilah [6:23] ; Ship Of Fools [6:59] ; Estimated Prophet [9:31] > He's Gone [11:04] > Drums [4:37] > Truckin' [9:#40] > Stella Blue [12:59] > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad [7:58] > Johnny B. Goode [4:15] Encore Uncle John's Band [9:49#] Comments: Recordings SBD 180 with the following cuts: A minute or two off the beginning of Deal; El Paso is missing all but the final verse; the splices In Sugaree and Truckin' appear To be minor tape flips; And Uncle John's Band cuts off near the end, It is not A major cut. 10/14/77 Houston, Hofheinz Pavilion, U of Hou One Jack Straw [5:03] ; Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo [11:22] > El Paso [4:06] ; Brown Eyed Women [4:53] ; New Minglewood Blues [5:05] ; Loser [7:#09] ; Passenger [3:24] ; Friend Of The Devil [8:13] ; Me And My Uncle [3:08] ; Tennessee Jed [8:46] ; The Music Never Stopped [4:16#] Two Bertha [7:08] > Good Lovin' [5:59] ; Candyman [7:28] ; Playing In The Band [16:#56] > Drums [3:35] > The Wheel [7:15] > Wharf Rat [13:49] > Around And Around [8:23] Encore Brokedown Palace [5:51] > Playing In The Band [4:13#] Comments: Recordings SBD 180. Cuts In Loser And Playing In The Band are relatively minor tape flips, cutting off of the Music Never Stopped is criminal And likely On the master. Playing In The Band Reprise cutoff is probably less than A minute. 10/29/77 DeKalb, Evans Field House, N. Ill Univ One Might As Well [5:20] ; Jack Straw [5:41] ; Dire Wolf [3:37] ; Looks Like Rain [8:13] ; Loser [7:23] ; El Paso [4:26] ; Ramble On Rose [6:58] ; New Minglewood Blues [4:50] ; It Must Have Been The Roses [6:25] ; Let It Grow [12:41] Two Bertha [7:46] > Good Lovin' [6:09] ; Friend Of The Devil [7:56] ; Estimated Prophet [11:15] > Eyes Of The World [12:55] > Space [7:38] > Saint Stephen [8:03] > Drums [2:58] > Not Fade Away [7:32] > Black Peter [12:12] > Sugar Magnolia [8:53] Encore One More Saturday Night [4:55] Comments: Recordings AUD 180 And SBD 180. I actually called this vine "Fall '77: Part 1" because I hope that some others will start a Part 2 and perhaps more. This is a great tour. Beside 10/29 (on this vine) and 10/16 (Yamadog), 10/2 and 10/11 are also considered great shows, the second set of the latter sans the Est > Eyes appearing as hidden tracks on a Dick's Pick. I have both those shows but alas not in gapless form. I'd love to see someone vine one of those shows + a couple of the following as Part 2: 10/6 Tempe, 10/12 Austin, 11/1 Detroit, 11/2 Toronto. I have tapes of 10/6 and 10/12 (maybe not in entirety) and there are definitely A SBDs out there of these shows (Taping Compendium could really use an update!!).

Hey 'Heads! I am in communication with our Bayou friend and trying to figure out whether we can add a few more shows to this already fine vine. I have 9/29, 10/14 and 10/29. Yamadog is seeing what he can do about 10/9, 10/11 and 11/1. We should have that worked out over the weekend. If we decide to add them to the vine it'll take a little time before this vine starts to sprout, but believe me, when it does, there will be some very kind buds! If anyone else wants to add even more shows (a gapless 10/2, 10/6, 10/12, 10/28, 10/30, 11/2?) NOW is the time! Merry Christmas!

Waiting to hear back from the guy re: the following: From '69: 4/6, 5/23, 5/31, 12/12, 12/30 From '71:10/19, 10/21, 10/29, 11/7, 12/1, 12/14, 12/15 From '72: 11/24, 12/31 From '73: 9/11, 9/15, 10/21, 10/25, 10/30, 11/1, 11/23, 11/25, 12/6, 12/8 From '77: 5/4, 5/11, 5/13, 5/15, 5/26, 5/28, 10/1, 10/6, 10/28, 10/30 From '79: 2/17, 8/12, 10/27, 11/5 I think I and some other guy cleaned him out of most of his '72 collection last time or I'd get more. Very excited about hearing the '73 shows, hopefully the sound quality is good. The '77 shows are mostly gap-fillers but there could be some nuggets in there. Early Keith from fall '71 should be interesting. And can't go wrong with some '69!

I've never heard nor seen soundboards of the Saenger Theatre shows from 10/18-19/80. If someone has these, HOLLER. Lame audience recordings exist, 2 from my Sony unit! For the best Eyes ever, check out 6/18/74. Package this up with some other late spring shows from 1974.

Sign ups for both are so far in the same order, I’ll make sure my offering is in the post tomorrow, see if it can catch up. It’s coming from the UK (Scotland), tomorrow is Sunday but it might get over the pond without too much delay. Whatever, Greg

This Is the XM Radio show "Then Again Live". The ABB recreate the classic album "Eat A Peach". This is a truley must-have show. There is talking in between songs, as Geroge Taylor Moore interviews Gregg and Butch. They offer some insight Into the songs and the time period after Duane Died. Features Performances of all the songs off of Eat A Peach. I would say the sound is A+. It really is an essential for all ABB fans. Allman Brothers Band 09/28/04 XM Performance Theater, Washington, DC 1. XM Intro-Ain't Wastin' Time No More 2. Les Bres Chat-Les Bres In A Minor 3. Melissa Chat-Melissa' 4. Wonder what happened to Owsley and the masters? I have a hodge podge of varying quality sources, too. Thanks for the description.
