@Mr Mailman....

Truer words haven't been spoken....
Where there's kale, there's a mighty wind a blowin!!
And it's blowin' you and me....

Jazz Colors Wave that Flag at The Field Museum
Tickets were not available over the weekend, but now ARE for Saturday. I just picked mine up. I might very well be late to the picnic. Get yours NOW. Museum Critters and the Grateful Dead. A perfect start to a day for this deadhead biologist!

@I'm in...
see you at the museum...better half would have wanted it that way....
Wide and High
No time for Imax or whatever, but you might find me mingling with the Vikings while a trumpet puts out Sugaree through the halls. Note" Add bring travel rum for cans of coke at Jazz Colors to the packing list. I got ya covered gergelis
@Mighty High and Wide...
just bought 4.....
how to save a marriage in 1 easy step....
and its gin, not rum...
Repetition works for me
I'm not the dullest tool in the shed, but sometimes the light of awareness takes a minute to seep in... thank you for the repeat-information Totes. I would have been sad to miss it.
Overwhelmed by emails every day of my life, the last three months included. Trying not to spend all my time looking at screens but right now it's a loosing battle - laptop (pretty little thing), phone, terminals at work where I order everyone's tacos -
Rrgrr forgot to tell you I brought some home yesterday. They'll be a little soggy in the fridge by now so how about Sargeant (sp) gets a treat and I'll bring fresh ones home tonight. Seared ahi with maui onions? Fried Alaskan cod? We just switched to organic chicken so all the mom's and dad's are going to be stoked. Sub tofu if you're feeling the veg way!!
I'm ready for a change. I'm intending that my time in Chi may be leveraged into a new chapter... we shall see. I am overeducated and really greedy: I want more.
I'm really grateful for the friends I'm making here.

@ I repeat myself when under stress....
Morning Stella...
welcome back onboard....we are on the Highway to Hell...
aka the Dreamer bus...Toonces is driving, Katniss hasn't offered Stanley to sub....yet....
Didn't miss much, our walls are built with cannon balls...
Hankering for a fish taco...missing Rubio's from San Diego....
All is fine...excepting Alice, and some unfortunate ticket mix up...
Have a hot cup of coffee...buckle up...and enjoy the ride...
gonna get real bumpy....
@breaking on through the doors of perception
You two crack me up. Gin it is. Stella, can't want to meet you as well! Coffee, tea, or rum?
Better make it coffee or tea for me
Someday I hope to drink rum again. Better not risk it for now.
@Dirty Harry....
A man's gotta know his limitations...give Stella water...she thrives in water...or so I'm told....
STL to CHI
Hi guys, new here to dead.net but longtime head. My hubby and I are brining our Sirius Boombox to Chicago for the weekend of the 4th and luckily they will be broadcasting the show...thank you Sirius! We will be camping at a state park near the city and travelling in to town to be near the scene. Hopefully there is someplace to gather for those of us who can't be inside the show. We'll be blastin tunes wherever we find ourselves. Peace to U!
@Good Morning Wednesday....
welcome aboard, and you too Gomez, Morticia, and Pugsley.
and yes this is the infamous Sunshine DayDreamer bus.....
and we are on the road...seemingly to nowhere right about now, see I've temporarily lost perspective and direction...strange forces from the Stinson Beach area have my compass all asunder....
but I digress....
Coffee is on and it's spectacular...steak and eggs as well....
Cousin It seems to be enjoying them...oh I'm sorry I didn't recognize you Klangstone, love your extensions...but get the hair out of your eyes....
Got my humping pants out...ready for the mines yet again....
Sarge has his trusty cell phone and his eye on the mail box....
Wishing, and a hopin' and a prayin' here....in da Buff....
as I told Mr. Mayor back in March...where there's life there's hope...
things always work out, rarely how we anticipate...but always for the best....
Have a safe and pleasant day all!
(thanks geoalwaysamanofreasonandperspectivemeister...)
Hey you Uncle Fester, get that lightbulb outta there....no don't stick it back in your mouth...wipe it off first!

2 weeks and 3 days to go + 13 hours to showtime in Santa Clara.
3 weeks and 2 days to go + 11 hours to showtime in Chicago.
Somebody get me a Doktor.
Patch those sails and shine those rails!
@Liketohike
I haven't heard anything yet about a broadcast in one of the parks, but it is a possible an announcement could be coming. There are several parties going on that viewing the show around town such as like with Leftover Salmon who is also playing sets. I don't think we've made an official list yet, but someone is sure to have a spreadsheet for that soon! See you on Northerly Island!
Here are the best bets so far:
City Winery and Park West will be live streaming the shows.
Fare Thee Well Live Stream from Soldier Field

Grateful Dead Streaming Party Hosted By Leftover Salmon
Park West
Hear it live from the Field Museum's terrace:

"Watch out for that tree"...
said tyhe cat in the hat in the back....
Fine job of steering da dus, rgrrrgrr, and taking those curves at just the right speed. Tis quite a shiny badge you've got there... I like the steelie face logo and Captain Rich tag.
Anyone catch the Smithsonian Channel's Aerial America last night? It featured Illinois, and had several majestic aerial flights over Chicago. I was hoping they would fly over Buckingham Fountain, and sure enough they did...the area for our meet-up just to the SE of the fountain loomed right up large in my screen. The trees looked a bit shaggy, the lawn green, and my heart skipped a beat at the vision of deadheads everywhere converging on that area in a couple of short weeks....here is the link, etc: http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/shows/aerial-america/illinois/701/340…
As we get closer to our destinations...rggrrgr promised to drive a bit more slowly (right!) or at least slow enough for the deadheads along the way to get on...as we approach California, there may be a sea of people around us...make sure you wave and say high to them...
Matter of fact, practice smiling and greeting your neighbors today, here on this ride, at home in your hood, and elsewhere as the opportunities arise. You never know who is needing that special twinkle and smile and you may have one at the perfect time. Make a difference today friends if you can, and if that isn't in the cards, help someone who is.
To each and all, the skies are yellow and the sun is blue...I hear music around the next bend...how 'bout some cookies and milk everyone.

Field Museum Important Info for Saturday
Am I allowed to leave The Field Museum and come back later?
Yes, if you come back on the same day and have your tickets handy.
So you can leave the museum, make the Pik-A-Nik for lunch, and return to the Museum if so your pleasure tends. I am geeky, so I will be at the museum most of the morning, picnicteer, then return to the museum for some jazzy Dead and Archive/ GDTS exhibit. It's all in the same area (museum is about 1/2 mile from the picnic). For those that missed the ticket link yesterday, there is a link to the event below.
Everything is Dead at The Field Museum
All The Years Combine: Deadhead Treasures From The Grateful Dead Archive & GDTS Too
Drawing on the extensive collection of the band’s own archive, All The Years Combine: Deadhead Treasures From The Grateful Dead Archive & GDTS Too features material from every part of the Grateful Dead’s career that document the special bond between the Grateful Dead family and their family of fans. Visitors will have the opportunity to see band and fan correspondence, decorated ticket request envelopes, newsletters, drawings, posters, tickets, backstage passes, and fan-made concert tapes.
Jazz & Colors: Wave That Flag
July 4, 12:30pm – 3pm, performances throughout the Museum, included with admission
Following the success of Jazz & Colors in New York’s Central Park and Jazz & Colors: The Masterworks Edition at the acclaimed Metropolitan Museum of Art, Jazz & Colors comes to Chicago’s Field Museum with a more focused and intimate experience. Jazz & Colors: Wave That Flag will feature local jazz musicians performing in various parts of the Museum taking on the songbook of the Grateful Dead for two sets of music on Saturday, July 4th.
Jazz & Colors is a co-production of The Field Museum and the promoters and performers of Fare Thee Well.

re: Field Museum
Thanks, Totes - this is awesome information.
Only caution is our Pic-A-Nic and group photo op is Saturday, July 4th at nigh noon. We want to make sure all our peeps are at our meeting spot in Grant Park for that.
Also, is there a direct link you can share on how to get to the specific information of this event?
Looks like awesome fun...thanks !!
@sharing is caring
I see no conflict anywhere fonts. Explain? There is a reason there is "important" information there. Read it again. Stay positive and see the forest through the trees. This forum is for sharing info for planning. Stick it, in an email update if you wish to.
@FLATTERED YOU ARE CONCERNED WITH MY SCHEDULE
FONTS, AS SHARED EARLIER TODAY, THE DUS BRIVER HAS MEDICINE THAT CAN REMEDY THAT. I SUGGEST YOU RELAX, ENJOY YOUR OWN RIDE AND EASE OFF THE MICROMANAGEMENT PEDAL. THIS DUS HAS A BRIVER.
@all of the above...and the below....
ba dus is on autopilot and will stop for stray cats, dogs and heads...
appreciate the well wishes Totes, and hope you're correct...
re. High noon....time is relative and always has been,
Totes, Lainie Bear and I will be at the museum in the morning....and after pic a nic....
However we need a window of arrival time, to expect every camper to be there for a photo op at exactly high noon is risky at best....and lacks necessary wiggle room and fluidity....
busy city busy weekend and people from all over....walking, biking, cabbing, ubering, crawling and limping there...
Provided tickets are in hand Elaine and I will be there....Scott and Rosalie are a lock....
Hey look it's Brian Setzer....gotta slow down....hop on...there's a seat next to Fester....grab some coffee...
you got something to say? The floor is all yours.....
Well, we're having a ball just a-bopping on the big dance floor
Well, there's a real square cat, he looks a 1974
Well-ell, he looked at me once, he looked at me twice
Look at me again and there's a-gonna be fight
We're gonna rock this town
We're gonna rip this place apart
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
We're gonna rock this town
Make 'em scream and shout
Let's rock, rock, rock, man, rock
We're gonna rock till we pop
We're gonna rock till we drop
We're gonna rock this town
Rock this place apart
after reading back the lyrics...not the best choice of song...let's try Stray Cat Shuffle....it's the bees knees....
@Don't get pooped on by a pigeon before the photo-shoot
Gergelis, you crack me up everyday. My office neighbors must hear my laughing through the walls. Well, quite a few of we biologists are GD lovers so they understand. They know I'm cracked. LOL! Yah, we all need some flexibility and knowing that we all are doing the best that we can as we travel through this land. Like I eluded to yesterday, some sweet Viking mamas or Egyptian goddesses might delay my arrival to said picnic. I did a Google ruler measurement. It's between 0.5-0.6 miles from the museum to the super secret picnic location. Watch out for them teddy bears trying to get on the dus.
@Whos on first....
Hey ABBOTT!
Bombay Sapphire....a straw will do....
I'll bring the women....
We got to right this ship tho....
Cuz...New Orleans is Sinkin' and I don't wanna swim....
.......I don't know, third base?
Lions, and Tigers and Bears....oh my....hey where's Dorothy the meek....jumped ship with Pugsley?
Now I'm pooped.....
@I dunno's on third
I'm feeling a little hip, but tragically so today. I was born to be a bachelor, but Althea the Viking is waiting for me in the Field. A Sunshine Daydreamer she is. Sharing is caring, but I won't be cutting any buddies down. Spin that compass card 'cause the bayou's rising on this raft is starting to float. Da Bears. Good thing they can climb, cause they don't want to swim. Funny how they all gaily gad about no matter where the barometer arrows point. Maybe we should let them on the bus afterall. Wipe them paws before boarding the dus and use you inside claws.
@Tomorrow...
Feel you, Bud...
Hope to meet your traveling companion...in Chicago....
tickets are gonna be dropping like manna from heaven....
just need to follow your instincts....
and know which way the wind does blow....
Life is looking up in da Buff....
Not re. Tickets, but in the grand scheme of life...
Appreciate the cards I've been dealt....and am playing them wisely....
Sarge still is without a bone, but at least he has a home....
Thanks for riding ba dus Totes....
gonna have us a high time...living the good life....
Dream of large women....
Jazz and colors
FYI:
Looks like only an All Access Pass is available for All Dead weekend at the Field Museum (of Natural History), for $31 and you have to choose times for some of the planned exhibits.
$18 for standard admission is either sold out or is just not an option for that weekend (if this matters to anyone).
But the all access passes were still available as of last night.
Probably going to this, if so I will get a ticket tonight. I don't think I can make it into the museum until AFTER the pic-a-nic photo and pizza lunch, and shooting for making it to the meet-up site by 11:30.
@ Totem thanks for the info!
I'm just excited to be near the shows and see all the colorful people converge on the windy city! My birthday is the 1st of July and this will be a great present! History will be in the making. Magical!
@chips cashed in....
the bus is in for repairs....
Riders are stretching their legs....
PM the mayor...he's got your details....
Lately he's got the jimmy legs, can't sit still...
Time to count our losses and regroup....
The sun will come out tomorrow....
Bet your bottom dollar, tomorrow...
Night Annie....
Night Sandy....
arf...arf.....
Here come the alley cats...
So now that it's close and getting closer... i want to point out that there are apps available like "find your friends" and "friends nearby". I know we don't all always want to be found - sidebars with Alice and all - but could be helpful for meet ups and... well I don't know. Stupors? I don't know if SC m&g is on S or S. But bells on just the same.
Ciao goodnight east coasters... you're up.
@Smiles awake you when you rise....
It's Thursday and coffee is on....time to saddle up the Palomino.
and get down to the Cumberland mines
Make somebody happy today
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye
night Stella....
morning everyone else....
What did you say Sarge?
Oh, you hope the Czech isn't in the male..
me too boy, me too...
I lost my boots in transit, babe
The winds doth not blow today. The sea is still, but the tide is rising. Back and fill Sunshine Daydreamers. This bus has begun to float and is tugging at the moorings. Check your manifests for this final journey. One final patch of the sails and check of the rails, for this vessel will sail when the winds blow next.
2 weeks, 2 days, and 14 hours until showtime in Santa Clara!
3 weeks, 1 day, and 12 hours until showtime in Chicago!
@Blondie...
The tide is high but I'm holding on....
Hold on campers and fasten your seat belts ....Sailing the seas of cheese ain't as easy as I thought it would be....the tempest at Stinson Beach is about to be felt nationwide...Thanks for maintaining those sails and rails Totes, you musta been a boy scout ....
Btw the dead50.net blurb from yesterday reminded me of Yeats...
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
The preceding cultural segment was brought to you by the cloudcover engulfing the southern regions of my mental heath...
I miss Ornette Coleman....
Song X what an album
@truckineric
SC meet was tentatively scheduled for approx. 3PM. Not an official time yet, and MaryE has been notified. She didn't think she would be there until 5PM.
I was thinking the meet would probably go from approx. 3-5PM. People can come earlier or later depending on when they arrive, get checked in and whatnot. It's a very casual meet-up.
@rrrrgrrrrrr
been off the bus for a spell, need some spiritual sport, stopped by camp howdy, out amongst the pinyon (sp?) pines and the cacti. Some big dude with animal skins on and the most bloodshot eyes I've ever seen trying to get a plane off the ground. Wore the LLbean sandals with the little nubs to open up the chi, mind you. Carl Jung and BF were there as well, said they were fed up with siggy and needed sleep.Don't worry rrrrgrrrr, all will be revealed soon, very soon......
pass the joe please, always hard coming back to the mines.
@yeats
reminded me of Carrol:
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
@Rachachacha
welcome back boo boo buddy....
didn't miss much....
Was in Albequerque, Santa Fe and Taos last November ...love the piñon ...ordered mass quantities of piñon incense thru Amazon...burn it daily...soothes the soul and calms the savage beast....in all of us....
Coffee in on....
btw Mr. Mayor is making me nervous...up pacing all night...restless leg syndrome I guess....no more caffeine for you Klang....
If folks are so inclined
It might also be possible, in addition, to meet amid the chaos at the Rex table inside the venue at the set break (there's supposed to be a raft of charity tables, but I don't know the layout yet) or some other obvious and reasonably accessible location. Not the same as hanging out at a fine watering hole, but perhaps a second chance for those who fall victim to logistics and other hassles.
Great Idea
Marye,
That is a very good thought about meeting for the break at the Rex Foundation table. Quality and quantity!
I'm planning on making the Klang and the Klangstones show from 3-5 p.m., unless I end up going to the Giants-Rockies game.
Keep you all posted and thanks for creating fun options!
@Sunshine Daydreamers....
after much thought and consideration, I have decided, to step down from briving this dus...
the responsibilities are great and expectations I put on myself are greater...
please leave me in the email queue...for if I am bestowed another Stinson miracle, I will be
in Chicago...suffice it to say Sgt. Pupper has bones for life...and that makes me happy...
as it stands, Scott and his girl will be there...be kind to them, I know you will..
the soul searching has given me a different path to follow....the path in my heart, not my head or
wallet...
please be kind to each other...
at this point in my life, I realize this is not my priority, my marriage and kids trump Chicago...
I don't miss Jerry anymore, he is in my heart and will always be...til I die...
fare thee well for now...and what a long strange trip it has been...
rrrrrgrrrr in a better place....
Godspeed Brother Rich...
...and you know I love ya like a brother !!
@staying in da Buff
I'll believe it when I don't see you in Chicago. Don't make me sing happy birthday to junior all by myself. Keep the Faith. We are turning the corner, going faster, and getting rounder. The dus hit a few bumps, but no trip is without its challenges. We'll keep a light on for you. See you in Chicago, or maybe a Motel 6!
rhymes with rrrrrrgrrrrr
Da dus briving gets tough when the miles add up and the coffee wears off. Even the over-the-roaders stop for a nap in the cab.
In this day and age of auto-parallel parking and Google-bot self-driving vehicles, put this sucker on cruise control and curl up in the back seat with the Sarge and family and at least you'll be enjoying the ride.
Pass me an Alberta Clipper Porter, will ya?
Peace, brother.
