it's getting pretty chilly at night. Had to get out the extra blanket last night. Beautiful during the day, though.

Here with a 70F dew point...hot and sticky! It's the time of year in the South where you just dart from air-conditioned space to air-conditioned space. I only see my neighbors when the sun is down.

starsleeper asked if I was in the military...not I am not, but I have been doing environmental work in the 'Stans on and off for more than 10 years now. My recent experiences with the insane heat in Central Asia really make me feel for those service people living in the desert in tents and sheds and metal vehicles. Must be hard to keep it together in such conditions along with all the other crap they have to deal with. Hydrate , hydrate.

It was 76 degrees yesterday and my 1st grade class spent a wonderful afternoon outside working and playing. Today it's supposed to be 35 with a low of 19. Texas weather...sigh.

Traffic is diminishing to a crawl as the big storm intensifies. Not sure how long I'll stick around work this morning, with anywhere from 8" to 15+" forecast today in KC and into central MO.After the snow stops Wednesday, we'll have double digit minus F temps by Thursday!!

Spring is just around the corner, according to the groundhog from Pennsylvania. Meanwhile most offices and all the schools are shut down in KC. -10 F tonight !! Might have to bring in the beer from the garage.

With the current snow storm raging outside the window and the storms coming with every 3-4 days with temps avg. 20 -- this is not a normal winter. Nor are our summers. When heat gets trapped in the atmosphere and can't escape it turn's into moisture, thus, all of the aforementioned. It won't be this way every year but the oscillation depending on el nino/nina currents will become less dispersed. I ave always asked the question though, where did the titans of industry who created these greenhouse gasses believe they and their loved ones would be safe? I do love a good snowstorm though, no two flakes alike - just like deadheads!

Hey Ted I have found out the hard way that as soon as the temp goes below zero, your beer becomes very unhappy. Speaking of beer, they cancelled the Avalanche Blues game last night, had the DVR set and everything .. Stay safe out there!! I think we just may push above zero today here in CO. ice ice ice ice ice. my roof, my driveway, my porch, my yard, my road. my poor doggie is singing the blues! my ripple needs a walk, but she just slips and slides and spins! but we got only half of the predicted nightmare, thank goodness. tomorrow is snow day #3, which will keep us in school until memorial day for certain! but i learned today that it takes exactly 1 grateful dead NYE show to clean my entire house, top to bottom... it doesn't smell the same, but it takes the same amount of time...! tomorrow the wind and the cold are supposed to intensify- hope everyone's safe and warm- caroline

You all drive safe, remember if you don't feel safe then don't drive .. Stay warm folks.. " Life is`nt about running from the storm, it`s about learning to dance in the rain "

For safekeeping, Ted. Really, I'll store it for ya, no charge aside from maybe a wee bit of sampling to ensure that quality hasn't been compromised. Reached 64F yesterday, though it'll be just in the 40s today.

Garage temperature is hovering around 33: outside it dipped to 4 below. I grabbed the good stuff and stuck it in the basement by the sump pump ( Ayinger, Hopslam and Bigfoot). Regular brews seemed to survive in the garage without fizzing thru the caps (Avery and Pyramid). I'm saving the Mickey's Big Mouth supply for Johnman if he comes to visit scenic Kansas.

and it's supposed to be more of the same all week. I got the dogs to the local dogpark for a brief round of fetch this morning and it looks like another storm moving in as we speak. I like the rain, but a sunny day or two would not kill us.

What a long strange winter it's been! I'm ready for some baseball. Our Royals, with the best Cactus league record, welcome the California /Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels !!! Who the heck do the Angels have this year?? Vladdy's been gone awhile. Unfortunately here in Kansas, it's 34 degrees w a 60% chance of wetness coming at KC from the northwest...brrrr. I'll have to wear a glove in order to hold the $8 beer. Go get 'em Royals!

it's spring already. What is up with this wintry blast? Still, it's so nice to have the days longer and the sun shining, I'm not complaining that much. But a friend of mine was just reporting slushy hail in Santa Cruz.

it's pretty darn nice here in Oakland too. The only thing I can find to complain about is that it's brought out the foxtails, which is a bummer from the dogs' point of view, because it's making a lot of their favorite spots a real minefield for the next few months. (Foxtails, for those not familiar with the grasses for which we can apparently blame the conquistadors, are spiky, barbed grass awns programmed by evolution to work their way up every canine orifice that presents itself, and create a few new ones, to the tune of much anguish and $$$. Wheat, basically, though oats are no treat in this regard either.)

Marye, your description doesn't evoke the mental picture that I usually get when I see the words "dog" and "minefield" used in the same sentence. Especially my dogs in relation to the minefield that they create in my back yard...actually, THEIR back yard. 80s yesterday in NC, a front came through and now we're in the 60s and sunny. Better than those tornado weather patterns of the past couple of weeks.

is super conscientious about foxtails because he had a dog DIE from an unsuspected one that worked its way into the dog's brain. My Callie in her younger days celebrated each spring by inhaling a foxtail. Now that she's old I'm really hoping to avoid it. I'm also hoping Cash avoids her snorking ways. It's tough though; right now our neighborhood is full of the darn things.

I love the rain and will take it any time...except during a show. Question is, how well did the Furthur show at Shoreline go last night? Anybody there? I'm supposed to go to the show tonight, which is why I'm asking. I don't suppose there is any chance of cancellation?

but prediction is for rain and lots of it. Last night folks were lucky as the rain held off and the show was awesome by all accounts. Tonight I'd say be prepared for anything. The seats in the 100s are pretty well covered. The 200s and lawn, not so much.
