    Gong, and then Steve Hillage were the Canterbury linked bands that meant most to me. Possibly because I saw Gong live in early 1974. To this day, the trippiest event I have ever witnessed without actually tripping myself. You didn't need to with Gong - it was all in the music and presentation. I hadn't taken anything at that time, but it was immediately obvious that they were emanating from a different dimension. A real sign post to otherness. Of their albums, the highlights for me are "Camembert Electrique" and "You" - but anything with Daevid Allen on really.
    Steve Hillage's solo albums from the 70's are also great. My favourite of his is one called "L".

    I also remember " The Snow Goose", which I thought of as being more in a Pink Floyd circa "Meddle" type vein.
    As for "Future Games" by Spirit - yes, I agree 100% !

    Speaking of 1973, anyone review John Hammond's You're Doin' Fine from Bears Sonic Journals? I recall listening to John's country blues way way back in the early 70s... thrilled to hear and meet him at the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland Maine a few years ago.

    Dicks 2 was great!
    Also I still think that the best album to get stoned to is Future Games by Spirit

    Ha! I have rolled so many joints on that album!
    Good to see people are liking it - Caravan were an important part of the'Canterbury music scene' which spawned Soft Machine, Hatfield And The North, National Health, Gong etc but Land Of Grey And Pink is probably the pinnacle.
    Richard Sinclair being I think one of the great vocalists and bass players
    If you like that check out Camel - especially Mirage and The Snow Goose and there is also a Cantrbury connection in that Sinclair played on Rain Dances and Breathless
    I also saw them on the Breathless tour in of all places Canterbury!

    I can remember being
    9 years old
    stilling in the parlor
    of my grandparents house
    less than 5 miles
    from the border between
    East & West
    Germany
    looking at a large square box with large ivory push-buttons
    with strange names written across the display
    names like
    Helvetia
    Luxembourg
    Telefunken
    Munchen

    yeah, so this show does hold
    a special place
    in memory
    of those summers (68, 69, 74, 75, 77)
    at my grandparents
    with that old Telefunken radio

currently streaming dead & company's second show at MSG which i was at last week.. absolutely unforgettable and I will NEVER miss another local event again!! currently "Not Fade Away" <3 which gave me chills til the end

Currently rewatching Couch Tour of the Austin show. Charlotte, Austin, how lucky you were!! Some great shows this tour. Never was in a position to follow the band thru tours. Had to pick my shows. The couch Tour is pretty great, especially for an old guy. Hope this isn’t wrong. Not trying to promote or advertise them, but thrilled to see every show of a tour, so conveniently.

Just arrived today. Sounds great. Great sound. Excellent set list. Top five version of Help>Slipnot>Franklin’s IMO. Lots of other stand outs. Love the Dave’s Picks Series!

AOXOMOXOA 50th anniversary disc 1- 1969 original mix

This entire production is first class, from the 3D cover (a la rolling stones satanic majesty) which I certainly would have appreciated staring at back in the day, it is truly wonderous.
The sound is perfect, the live stuff sounds better than ever, but really should use the original shows complete, in the order that the Dead created them. Listening to Good morning little schoolgirl by the Dead and comparing it to Ten Year After version...well, what to say, as much as I dig Alvin Lee (RIP), I MUST say that Jerry's version has more soul to it. Great cover by the Dead (off their debut album!).
