I was at at least one of these three shows.
I was at at least one of these shows. My first exposure to Commander Cody (yee-hah!) We'd been to see a band called "Marmaduke" at Sproul Hall basement coffee house at UCB. Yes, indeed - later known as NRPS. John "Marmaduke" Dawson with Jerry on steel, Mickey on drums, and a blond-haired guy on bass. My first exposure to live CW - ruined my life! I spent the next 30 years playing honky tonk in bars. Damn you, Marmaduke! Damn you, Commander Cody! Damn you Asleep At The Wheel! What really did the trick was the steel guitar. In a state of enhanced receptivity to the tactile nature of sound, I thought I was in brain surgery, and the doctor lifted off the top of my skull, and poured creme de menthe on my exposed brain. It was April fresh! Anyway - back to the Family Dog - I don't remember Phoenix. Remember a pick-up band of GD/NRPS that invited Bobby to sit in. He did Mama Tried. Commander Cody was hot! You'd never know they were actually from Ann Arbor.
