    Week of February 7, 1994

    This week's program features an interview with three collaborators on a stage musical about the life of baseball legend Satchel Paige: Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, saxophonist David Murray, and bookwriter/lyricist Michael Nash.

    I asked Nash about the current status of the play, and he replied:

    It's been a long arc, but we've continued to evolve and revise the piece as we've learned more about the craft of theater and as time has altered some of our perspectives. We've worked a bit outside of the box in certain respects, but in many ways that's been an asset.

    We have a great director in New York and he's currently speaking with various regional theaters with the goal of mounting the piece in the next year or so. All good things in all good time...

    A song from the work in progress, "Shoulda Had Been Me" (by Bruce Cockburn, Michael Nash, and Bob Weir), has appeared here and there in Bob Weir's live performances, and also on the David Murray Octet's wonderful CD Dark Star: The Music of the Grateful Dead.

    It's been awhile since I too, posted to you.You remember our chat awhile back when I thought it was you working the soundboard at the Elder's Concert. Ahh, of course! Well, you're always here and so I am I and I hope you always think of my silent companionship as steady and constant. Like a headlight in the fog. Ya can't really see it but you know it's really there! Reading 90sman's post brought me back to happiness in a old fashioned way. And thus inspired me to shower you with praise and lovingkindness for all the many years. This week was awesome for sure and last week OMG Nicky had me in a coma later that night, I was so comfortable I was perfect! Heavenly! I love him so especially, xo. Alright-keep it sacred in the New Year. Happy 2012! Love to the lovely Rita too, xo! ----------------d&rg-------------(-----@

    Double Flashback
    This is way too much fun. Not only was I at this show, but I also have a great memory of curling up with my radio in Boulder, Co on that cold winter night and hearing it come through to me. The Dead Hour meant the world to me back then. It gave me my first times hearing shows that I had actually been to. I was young, so young. and I'll meet you back here next week.
