Got a request for this show from a caller on SiriusXM's "Tales from the Golden Road," the Sunday afternoon call-in show that I cohost with Gary Lambert. The caller remembered hearing Phil Lesh's powerful emotional response to a stretch of music from 2/18/71 that I was later able to get released as "Beautiful Jam" on the 1999 boxed set So Many Roads (1965-1995).
This interview was originally broadcast on KPFA's Dead to the World April 2, 1997. It also includes some very interesting music that Phil participated in during the years between the end of the Grateful Dead in 1995 and his return to regular performing in 1998.
