First Dead Show (had already seen Jerry Garcia Band)
Hitched up from Lexington, MA and stayed in a hut in the woods near Stowe, VT that had been built by some kids at a private school. Knew a couple of people who went to the school. Hitched to Burlington from the school for the show and the guy who gave us a ride said that he heard the show had been cancelled because Jerry cut off his finger in a hunting accident. Ha! Funny.

    Inside behind stage
Igot a ticket but my friend didnt so I sold mine and we hung out by the back door and went inside and leaned against the wall. We worked our way up the ramp to the rear right of the stage. Couldnt see much and there was a gaggle of cops hanging together at the exit of the arena as they liked to do at Dead concerts. Just before the break someone, I think it was Ramrod came down and told them they needed to make way for the band. They sprang into action and came over and started to herd us out. Seeing what was going on, the roadie that spoke to them returned and told the police that we were OK and could stay and that the Dead didnt want to see anyone in uniform when they came off of the stage. The band passed by and we nodded acknolegement . Jerry returned a smile. We used the break to get a better view.

    First Show
A cosmic date 5.6.78 and a cosmic first show standing on a chair on the floor about 10 rows back...up from Middlebury with our band of merrymakers. Sugaree to date remains best performed live song - guess I lost it early. Shaken it...
