First of five featuring the first known digital soundboard recording of the Grateful Dead.
Larry Oppenheimer brought his brand new Sony PCM-F1 and a VHS video recorder to the Dead show at the Hartford Civic Center on April 17, 1982. Soundman Dan Healy, always interested in new tools hooked, him up to the board feed (though the first song, "New Minglewood Blues," was missed). Larry brought the tapes to me more then 20 years ago, and I transferred the digital recording to several analog formats for broadcast and distribution. I recently found those PCM digital masters in my studio, and sent them along to Charlie Miller for expert restoration. Here is the complete show, from Charlie's newly-remastered files.
It's a great Grateful Dead show, too, worthy of the crystal-clear sound of the recording.
Enjoy!
